CHARLTON - NO UNITED BID FOR ROONEY
Manchester United director Sir Bobby Charlton has confirmed that the Old Trafford club have not made a move for Everton´s Wayne Rooney.
The Toffees starlet is in talks with Everton over a new contract, but reports are suggesting that he will shun the new deal - as he eyes a move to United.
However, United legend Charlton insists no moves have been made.
" Wayne Rooney is a great player, but he´s not our player," Charlton told MUTV.
" I think he´s quite happy at Everton and I don´t see any reason why he shouldn´t stay. Gill ( United´s chief executive) has already said that Wayne is not for us.
" We have long-term plans and we are a bit careful, we don´t just throw money away, players are available that sometimes you have to go for, but at the moment Alex has not come to us demanding: ´Let´s have Wayne Rooney´.
" We are quite satisfied with what we´ve got.
" We haven´t got the money to pay for all the players we are linked with.
" The financial discipline of the club is very important. We have to compete with the best, but getting your sums right is very important. We get mentioned with every player because we do well financially."
