Lets finish the job in style says Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo has warned Portugal´s players and fans against complacency after reaching the Euro 2004 final. The teen ace´s header from a corner, his second of the tournament, helped the hosts Portugal to a 2-1 victory over Holland and guided them to withing sight of glory. " We were very happy after the Holland game," said Ronaldo. " But I want to be a champion. Now we are in the final I want to win it and we must not think the job is over."
George Scott, Daily Star

Fergie to pair Rooney with Ruud
Manchester United are poised to pair England sensation Wayne Rooney with Ruud van Nistelrooy in a dazzling strike partnership next season. The club deposed by Arsenal as champions believe they can raise the cash for an audacious bid for Everton´s Rooney and at the same time resist any offer for Van Nistelrooy. That would be the dream ticket for Sir Alex Ferguson who, apart from fielding two of the leading scorers from Euro 2004, would also have Louis Saha and Alan Smith up his sleeve as he mounts an all-out assault on the Champions League and Premiership.
Matt Lawton, Daily Mail

on peut pas tout faire mais bon c rosicky et vicente quand meme en plus ils coutent moins cher que rooney!

GUNNERS MOVE FOR TRABELSI

Arsenal are believed to have agreed a deal with Ajax for their outstanding full back Hatem Trabelsi.
The 27-year-old had been looking to leave the Amsterdam ArenA on a free transfer, and the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus and Milan were all ready to pounce.

However, the Dutch courts ruled that Ajax had a legal option to extend his deal - meaning he was still tied to the Dutch champions.

Newcastle United tried to land the Tunisian earlier this summer, but their move faltered when they tried to bypass the player´s agents and go straight to Ajax.

As Sir Bobby Robson was lining up another bid, Arsenal have stepped in and agreed a fee of around £3 million for the right back.

Trabelsi is now expected to agree terms over the next week and should complete a move soon after.

Wenger has moved for the African as he obviously feels he needs extra cover at right back with Lauren currently filling that role, although it would be expected that Trabelsi would emerge as first choice.

Bayern Munich full back Willy Sagnol, also a target for Arsenal, stated earlier this year that Wenger was looking to replace Lauren.

Despite Trabelsi´s imminent arrival, Lauren - who can also play in midfield - is unlikely to be surplus to requirements at Highbury as another reason for Wenger signing a new full back is to make sure Kolo Toure remains in the central of defence rather than having to provide cover.

Trabelsi, however, will not be the first summer signing for Wenger as he is expected to complete the siging of Celta Vigo goalkeeper Manuel Almunia in the next few days.

The 27-year-old has already agreed terms on his £500,000 switch and should arrive in England over the weekend.

ça va vraiment etre compliqué l´an prochain...

BUTT SPECULATION GROWING
Thursday 1st July 2004

Butt: Newcastle target

Speculation is mounting that Nicky Butt is on the brink of sealing a move away from Manchester United, with Newcastle United in pole position to land the England international.

Butt suffered the agony of missing out on Euro 2004 after injuring his knee in training during the tournament, but his place had already been taken by Frank Lampard at that stage after a season spent largely on the periphery at Old Trafford.

Although it will be a wrench to leave United for the 29-year-old, he grew increasingly frustrated at being overlooked in favour of the likes of Phil Neville and Darren Fletcher, and asked for a transfer earlier this year.

Birmingham City and Middlesbrough were keen on Butt but United´s valuation of the player and his own terms were not met and he remained in Manchester, watching from the bench as The Red Devils won the FA Cup against Millwall.

Newcastle are willing to pay around £4 million for the defensive midfielder, surely raising fresh doubts over veteran Gary Speed´s future at St James´ Park.

Old Trafford chief executive David Gill has already revealed there are likely to be several outgoings from the club, contrary to what Sir Alex Ferguson has stated.

Butt will lead the exodus, which is expected to include Diego Forlan and possibly even Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, if buyers can be found.

The question will then be whether Ferguson sticks with his senior summer captures of Liam Miller, Alan Smith and Gabriel Heinze or goes for a bigger name addition to his squad - perhaps Everton´s teen sensation Wayne Rooney.

" Monsieur Saha wants some silverware"

After a worse than anticipated Euro 2004 Louis Saha can´t wait to get back to
Manchester and start winning things. Here he is on the French and next
season at OT.

" It was sad for us to go out because we believed we could win the tournament
and we don´t understand what went wrong,"

" It was a bit disappointing for me because I wanted to play more. It´s not easy
being on the bench. But it has not affected me.

" Personally I´m still on a high after the incredible year I´ve had," he continues.

" Now I can´t wait to kick a ball again at Old Trafford because Euro 2004 has
only made me more hungry.

" Everything went so well for me last season - it was an incredible time. Now I
just want to go back to Manchester and win some trophies."
