Fergie´s on Ruud to Roon
Wayne Rooney will form a fearsome partnership with Ruud van Nistelrooy at Old Trafford next season. That is the ambitious plan of manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who has spent the past six months plotting how to put Manchester United back on top of the Premiership title.

Perez veut couvrir Bernabeu

CELTIC BEAT UNITED TO SIGN STARLET

Canadian starlet Jacob Lensky has snubbed Manchester United in order to join Martin O´Neill´s Celtic.

After losing Liam Miller to Old Trafford, the news will be welcomed at Parkhead as O´Neill looks to follow up a stunning season in Scotland with more success in the future.

Lensky underwent a trial with Celtic but a hamstring injury prevented the midfielder from linking up with United on a similar basis.

" Although I´ve had opportunities to play with other teams, including Manchester United, Celtic emerged as my clear first choice," the 15-year-old told The Vancouver Sun.

" I loved my trial with Celtic and everything else about the club.

" I can´t officially be signed to a contract until I turn 16, which is on December 16."

Celtic have confirmed that the player will officially become part of their squad at the turn of the year, but he is likely to form part of their youth team plans.

" The original purpose of the trip was to go to Glasgow Celtic first and then to Manchester United," admitted his father, Boris Lensky.

" We thought when we left Vancouver that Manchester United would be the more important part of the trip.

" Jacob was approached first by Manchester United, but then he picked up his hamstring injury and couldn´t go to Manchester."

Rosicky dreams of Juve move

Czech Republic´s impressive midfielder Tomas Rosicky has again reiterated his desire to quit Borussia Dortmund in the summer, with Juventus his preferred destination.
The talented schemer has been in impressive form in Portugal and is hopeful that this will be enough to earn him a dream move to Serie A.

´´Before leaving with my national team, I´ve officially asked Borussia to sell me,´´ confirmed Rosicky.

´´When I get back I´ll talk with my agent and we will make a decision.´´

Czech Republic captain Pavel Nedved currently plays at Juventus and Rosicky is keen to be united with his international colleague at club level.

´´I´d like to play Italian football,´´ Rosicky continued. ´´Rather than Inter, or Milan, I´m thinking about Juventus.

´´Pavel talks of them in a really good way.´´

However, despite Rosicky´s declaration of affection for the Old Lady, it seems the Turin giants are more interested in Czech team-mate Marek Jankulovski.

Former United youth team coach Eric Harrison says that even at the tender age of fourteen, Wayne Rooney was " the best teenager in England by a mile."

Harrison has kept a close eye on Rooney´s progress during his rise through the youth ranks at Goodison Park.

And Harrison, who was responsible for nurturing the talents of United´s famous Youth Cup winning side of ´92, believes the Everton youngster has the potential to go on and become a real footballing star.

" I´ve followed him since he was 14 - the best teenager in England by a mile," Harrison told the Sunday Times.

" Everything I´ve heard and seen of Wayne suggests he has a magnificent future. Mark Pembridge has told me how great he is in training and how he fitted in among Everton´s senior players straight away.

" He´ll be a very confident player throughout his career, but I don´t think he´ll be arrogant and that will help him."

Rooney, 18, has taken the football world by storm following his inspirational displays for England at Euro 2004, which helped Sven Goran Eriksson´s men reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Harrison is one of many who has been hugely impressed with the way Rooney has dealt with the huge expectations placed on his young shoulders, and cites a youthful lack of fear as the key factor behind his success so far.

" Rooney, Ronaldo and the other kids have had no fear," he explains. " They haven´t been through a major finals and experienced the consequences of their country failing before, so they´ve just gone out and played.

" When I grew up you watched Stan Matthews and Tom Finney. Now youngsters are playing from all across Europe. Kids copy don´t they?

" Mind you, in the case of Rooney what you´re seeing is an unaffected talent, a throw back to the street players who used to come out of places like inner-city Glasgow.

" He´s an old fashioned footballer with modern sensibilities, that´s the best way I can put it."
