Gill Delighted With Miller Coup
David Gill is confident that Liam Miller will prove to be a great bargain as a free transfer.
The Irish international midfielder will become a United player on July 1, and chief excecutive Gill expressed his delight at the coup from Celtic.
Gill told MUTV: " People in Glasgow are very disappointed and we know that directly from Celtic."
" We can understand that but Liam made the choice to come to us, we are delighted to get him on a free transfer.
" He was man of the match in a recent Irish game and I think he will prove to be a great acquisition."
United to make massive bid for striker?
MANCHESTER United have been linked with a €25 million bid for a prodigious young striker - but it´s not Wayne Rooney.
The Reds are reportedly monitoring Rooney´s availability, but with every game his value is soaring and they would be unlikely to pay the £30 million plus that Everton would demand for the 18-year-old.
According to reports in Italy, they will instead go for Parma´s Italy under-21 international Alberto Gilardino, a player who is coveted by Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
While still a relative unknown outside Italy, Gilardino is a darling of the Italian press and will be one of the new breed of players brought into the national squad following their disasterously early exit from Euro 2004.
United scouted the player last season and could be set to make mammoth bid to cash-strapped Parma as part of a double deal.
The Reds are also keen on Parma´s under-17 striker Guiseppe Rossi and so could offer a massive fee to sign both players and help ease the Serie A club´s financial burden.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has already spent £13 million on Alan Smith and Gabriel Heinz, but there could be room for one more big-money signing, though it would be reliant on ushering at least a couple of players through the Old Trafford exit doors.
Cristiano Ronaldo admitted that Euro 2004 is exceeding his wildest dreams as Portugal moved into the semi-finals of the tournament.
The United youngster hailed the host nation´s spirit after their dramatic penalty shoot-out win over England.
Ronaldo said: " The players were magnificent. We played really hard and we still hope to go further in this tournament.
" We showed great grit, great determination and great confidence and I think over the 120 minutes people could see we were determined to win this game. We worked hard and made it very difficult for England to play."
Ronaldo has become an increasingly important part of Felipe Scolari´s team, much to the delight of the 19-year-old.
" It´s extraordinary, it´s gone better than I ever expected and let´s hope it´s not over for us yet," he said. " I hope I continue to enjoy the confidence of Mr Scolari."
£22m United bid for Roon
Manchester United are ready to begin the bidding for Wayne Rooney with a £22million offer. And Alex Ferguson is convinced he will get the 18-year-old England sensation, whose Euro 2004 campaign ended in injury heartbreak on Thursday night. High-level talks have taken place at Old Trafford, with the green light given to a move, and United have already made contact with Everton. Rooney will not sign a new contract at Goodison and make the switch. He has only two years left on his current deal and wants to stay in the North West so he will reject any overtures from Chelsea, whatever their offer.

United lead the chase for wounded Wayne
England sensation Wayne Rooney limped home last night - straight into a bidding war for his services. Manchester United, his preferred choice, and Chelsea are favourites to sign the 18-year-old Everton striker. But United, who have prepared a £23m bid, believe they are in pole position. In the meantime, Rooney faces a six-week lay-off with the foot he broke against Portugal.

Rooney may snub Chelsea as Fergie closes in
Wayne Rooney has indicated to friends and family that he would prefer to join Manchester United rather than follow his England minder Steven Gerrard to Chelsea. And Sir Alex Ferguson is confident that the striker´s wish to stay in the north-west will persuade Everton to agree a deal worth up to £30million to take the 18-year-old to Old Trafford. United are prepared to pay an initial fee of about £23m, which will be supplemented by incentive payments up to an extra £7m.

Van is worried about Swedish strike force
Ruud van Nistelrooy last night warned Holland to fear the threat posed by free-scoring Sweden - and said they have been the best team at Euro 2004. He said: " Sweden are a great team and it will be a hard match. They´re playing their best here, and the strikers are in form. We have to make sure we control them."

And finally, level headed tabloid support for Scholes? Surely not...
Scholes clanger cost us
I believe Sven-Goran Eriksson dropped a major clanger during the Euro 2004 quarter-final. Paul Scholes, and ultimately England, were the victims. When the wonderful Wayne Rooney went off injured with his side 1-0 up, Eriksson should have switched another of our world-class players - Paul Scholes - from his unwanted role on the left and pushed him up to play in behind Michael Owen. Either Kieron Dyer or Owen Hargreaves could have come off the bench and into that problem wide left position.
