Glazer ups Man Utd stake
Glazer said in March he would not make an offer
American tycoon Malcolm Glazer has raised his stake in Manchester United Plc to 19.17% in a move likely to re-ignite speculation of a takeover bid.
The owner of American football´s Tampa Bay Buccaneers was linked to a takeover when he upped his stake to 16.69%.
And this latest move makes Glazer the second largest shareholder in the club after John Magnier and JP McManus.
Despite claiming in March to have no plans to launch a bid, it fuels rumours of a possible offer in the future.
Glazer said on Thursday he had bought a further 2.41m shares, taking his holding to 50.27m shares.
Manchester United, who finished third in the Premiership last season, have been the subject of persistent bid speculation as their two biggest shareholders have built up their stakes in recent months.
Irish billionaires Magnier and McManus own 28.9%, although sources close to them have said they are long-term investors rather than potential takeover bidders.
