The Sunday Mirror claim that ´United have won the race to sign Barcelona´s Gerard Pique´. He´s a 17-year old defender. The paper says that the Gabriel Heinze deal is done and dusted. The People also say that Heinze will sign this week after being axed for the Argie World Cup squad.

The Mirror claim that our feeder club will double James Milner´s wages so to avoid yet another player heading in our direction.

The Sunday Express say we may line up Parma centre-half Matteo Ferrari- this has been doing the rounds for some time.

Monaco : Rothen 4 ans au PSG ?

Le milieu de terrain international monégasque Jérôme Rothen devrait signer lundi un contrat de quatre ans en faveur du PSG. Rothen a reçu un bon de sortie de la part de ses dirigeants et a décliné l’offre de Manchester United pour venir à Paris.

Samedi soir, tard, Francis Graille, Jeannot Werth, l’agent mandaté par Monaco et un autre représentant de l’ASM étaient encore en pleine réunion pour régler les derniers détails du transfert de Jérôme Rothen au PSG. « Ils vont réussir à trouver un terrain d’entente, mais pas avant samedi soir ou dimanche. » nous déclarait le Monégasque depuis sa chambre de Clairefontaine.

Après avoir refusé une offre récente de Manchester United ( « J’ai donné ma priorité à Paris, donc mon intérêt n’est pas d’aller à Manchester. Je n’ai donc aucun intérêt à ce que mes agents disent oui à l’offre de Manchester.), l’ancien joueur de Caen et Troyes devrait signer lundi un contrat de quatre ans en faveur du club parisien, qu’il souhaitait tant rejoindre – lui le natif de Châtenay-Malabry – et pour lequel Didier Deschamps et Pierre Svara lui avaient accordé cette semaine un bon de sortie. « Je ne devrais signer que lundi, car nous avons une après-midi de libre avec l’équipe de France. J’en profiterais alors pour aller signer mon contrat. »

Ruud van Nistelrooy has slammed the critics for speculating about his future and unsettling the Manchester United fans. The Dutch striker, who is preparing for Euro 2004, took time out to launch a scathing attack on the people who suggested he was on his way to Real Madrid this summer. Manchester United have won the battle to bring Barcelona’s teenage prospect Gerard Pique to the Premiership. Sir Alex Ferguson is also on the trail of French champions Lyon’s £5million-rated Brazil World Cup defender Edmilson, who has said he wants to leave.

Manchester United have lined up an alternative target to Gabriel Heinze if they fail to land the Argentine defender – Italy’s Matteo Ferrari. United have made a series of checks on the 24-year-old Parma centre-half, who is in the Italian squad for the European Championships in Portugal. United remain confident they’ll seal a £6million deal with Paris St. Germain for Heinze. But if that deal hits problems, Sir Alex Ferguson will switch his sights to the £5m-rated Ferrari.

Le transfert de Vieri à la Juventus ne semblant pas en mesure de se faire, le Real Madrid en a profité pour se porter acquéreur.

Christian Vieri ne semble par contre un transfert vers la Juventus mais le contrat proposé par les dirigeants rossoneri ne lui convient pas. Si l’Intériste partait en direction de Turin, il toucherait quatorze millions d’euros en quatre ans soit deux de moins qu’à Milan. Le Real Madrid en a profité pour faire part à Moratti son envie de faire venir Vieri la saison prochaine.

Enfin, Gabriel Heinze, qui a conclu sa semaine en sélection argentine par un nul ( 0-0), hier soir, contre le Paraguay, en éliminatoires du Mondial 2006, va pouvoir se consacrer à l´organisation de son départ pour Manchester United. Le PSG et le club anglais seraient parvenus à un accord autour de 9 M€.

As we reported yesterday sources in Spain report that United have won the race to sign Barcelona youngster Gerard Pique.

The defender has been attracting interest from both Arsenal and Chelsea and can play left back or in the centre of defence.

Negotiations over a new contract with Barcelona have broken down and United are said to have taken advantage.

No fee has been mentioned but it is understood that Pique has agreed to a five-year contract

Ruud wants to be number one

Ruud van Nistelrooy is determined not to be the odd man out for Holland at the European Championship finals.
Dutch coach Dick Advocaat has hinted he will switch to a 4-4-2 formation for the tournament, with van Nistelrooy vying with Patrick Kluivert and Roy Makaay for the striking roles.

The Manchester United hit-man started alongside Kluivert in Saturday´s disappointing friendly defeat to Republic of Ireland but both players drew a blank.

Van Nistelrooy is confident in his own abilities to lead Holland´s line in Portugal and aims to convince Advocaat he merits a starting spot.

And he will not settle for anything but a place in the team from the kick-off when the Oranje commence their Euro 2004 campaign against Germany.

" No way ( will I be a substitute)," said van Nistelrooy. " But I do realise it could happen.

" I am not used to being on the bench.

" At United I always start but I understand that we have a lot of strikers in the Holland team for only one or two positions.

" The manager can make his own pick. I will show him that I should be the number one striker."

Gerrard: I want to do it for Rio
Steven Gerrard thinks the " Rio factor" has given England an unbreakable team spirit that will spur them on to Euro 2004 glory. The England midfielder is convinced the national team will benefit from the strong bonding that has taken place since October - when Rio Ferdinand was axed for missing a drugs test. Gerrard said: " There´s a really good feeling of togetherness in the side. Ever since that Turkey game, in fact. When we had to go to Istanbul with our backs against the wall we pulled a result out. So the Rio thing helped in a strange way. Everyone is pulling together. There is a feeling that we are unbreakable. Obviously we are going to miss Rio, because he´s a massive player. You look at Manchester United´s results since he hasn´t been there and it just goes to show. Still, we´ve got great centre halves here as well and, hopefully, they´ll do a good job for us. But, of course, we want to win it for Rio."
