Trabelsi fails in court case

Hatem Trabelsi will not be allowed to walk out on Ajax for nothing in the summer after the defender lost his court case against the Amsterdam giants.
The Tunisian defender claimed he should be allowed to leave on a free transfer in the summer, but Ajax insisted they had an option in place to extend his contract until the summer of 2006.

The two sides failed to find an amicable solution, which prompted Trabelsi to launch a court case against his club.

The Dutch FA ( KNVB) have been reviewing the case and came down in favour of Ajax - saying the contract is valid until June 30, 2006.

Trabelsi was also seeking the dissolution of the agreement, citing a ´disturbed working relationship´, but the KNVB also dismissed this claim.

Neither party has yet to comment on the ruling, but it is clear that Trabelsi will not be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

A host of Premiership teams had been monitoring the situation, with the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle keen to acquire one of the world´s best full backs for no fee, but they will now have to take stock of events.

It had been suggested that Magpies boss Sir Bobby Robson had held talks with Trabelsi, but any deal will now cost Newcastle a substantial portion of their transfer kitty.

Ajax coach Ronald Koeman has been unhappy with Trabelsi and it remains to be seen if the ArenA chief opts to field the Tunisian next term.

Queiroz made such an impact in his first spell at United, which lasted 12 months, he even managed to earn praise from Roy Keane.

Helping United reclaim the title in 2002/03 following an empty-handed season earned him total respect at the club, who will once again be looking to win back their Premiership crown after a poor campaign.

Old Trafford insiders credited Queiroz with meticulous preparation, modernising training and re-organising United´s defence.

Indeed, Ferguson himself was moved to say " bringing Carlos here was one of the best decisions I have ever made".

He even handed Queiroz the tactical credit for the 2-0 win over Arsenal at Old Trafford that kept the title race alive, with his suggestion of Phil Neville in a holding role a master-stroke.

Queiroz also insisted United´s players must stay in hotels before every domestic game, a ploy Ferguson admitted his players thrived on.

And as a brilliant linguist, fluent in English, Spanish, French, Italian and obviously his native Portuguese, he crossed all barriers with United´s cosmopolitan set-up.

Queiroz made his name as the guiding hand behind Portugal´s so-called " golden generation" of youngsters including Rui Costa, Joao Pinto and Luis Figo when he lead the country to victory in the 1989 and 1991 World Youth Championships.

He then coached Portugal´s senior side with mixed results for three years before spells in America, Japan and as South Africa´s coach.

Queiroz was regarded as a success with Bafana Bafana before quitting for United and, after his ill-fated spell with Real, is now back to help steer the Old Trafford club to glory once more.

Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron will join Inter Milan from Chelsea on a season´s loan, the Serie A club said on Thursday. Veron, 29, is the first player to leave the west London premier league club since Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho promised a clearout after formally taking over on Wednesday.A Chelsea statement said Veron would join the Milan club for a year from July 1 while Inter said he had " unreservedly accepted a pay cut" as part of the deal.

Le milieu de terrain international monégasque Jérôme Rothen devrait signer lundi un contrat de quatre ans en faveur du PSG. Rothen a reçu un bon de sortie de la part de ses dirigeants et a décliné l’offre de Manchester United pour venir à Paris.

Samedi soir, tard, Francis Graille, Jeannot Werth, l’agent mandaté par Monaco et un autre représentant de l’ASM étaient encore en pleine réunion pour régler les derniers détails du transfert de Jérôme Rothen au PSG. « Ils vont réussir à trouver un terrain d’entente, mais pas avant samedi soir ou dimanche. » nous déclarait le Monégasque depuis sa chambre de Clairefontaine.

Après avoir refusé une offre récente de Manchester United ( « J’ai donné ma priorité à Paris, donc mon intérêt n’est pas d’aller à Manchester. Je n’ai donc aucun intérêt à ce que mes agents disent oui à l’offre de Manchester.), l’ancien joueur de Caen et Troyes devrait signer lundi un contrat de quatre ans en faveur du club parisien, qu’il souhaitait tant rejoindre – lui le natif de Châtenay-Malabry – et pour lequel Didier Deschamps et Pierre Svara lui avaient accordé cette semaine un bon de sortie. « Je ne devrais signer que lundi, car nous avons une après-midi de libre avec l’équipe de France. J’en profiterais alors pour aller signer mon contrat. »

ROVERS INCREASE PEDERSEN BID

Blackburn Rovers have increased their offer for Norwegian talent Morten Gamst Pedersen just 24 hours after having their initial bid rejected.
The Ewood Park outfit moved in on the Norway international on Thursday evening, however their first approached was swiftly rebuffed.

According to reports in Norway, Rovers have tabled a new offer of £1.5 million for the Tromso winger, although £600,000 of the fee is appearance related.

Blackburn manager Graeme Souness is a big admirer of the Scandinavian talent, having watched him on a number of occasions.

It remains to be seen whether Tromso will accepts Rovers´ improved offer with the side wanting around £2.5 million for the highly-rated star.

Gamst Pedersen is tempted by playing his football away from his native country, but until a fee is a agreed the decision whether to move or not is not his choice.

" It tempts me to play abroad," he said to Bladet Tromso. " If I go out it´s to play football, not to sit on the bench or in the stands."
