Alan Smith has been accused of betraying Leeds as he prepares to make a £7m switch across the great divide to arch-rivals Manchester United.
The England striker is expected to seal his move to Old Trafford on Wednesday, subject to passing a medical.
He is likely to get a chilly response when he turns out for Sir Alex Ferguson´s side for the first time in August´s Vodafone Cup, before which he will be part of United´s three-match tour to the United States.
By then, Smith will probably still have the angry words of Leeds fans ringing in his ears as most are unable to believe how a self-confessed Whites fan can even contemplate a move to the club they hate.
" It´s a stab in the back for all Leeds fans,´´ said Simon Jose, of the Leeds United Independent Fans´ Association.
" But it reflects football as it stands today. The people at the highest level are in it for the money.
" There is simply no compassion or empathy with the fans any more. There are very few who seem to have any respect for the club or the badge.
" You cannot say you´re a Leeds fan and then go to Manchester United. No Leeds fan would be seen dead in a Man U shirt.
" Alan Smith will now go down on a long list of people who have betrayed Leeds United, and as for him saying he would one day come back, there is no way that will ever happen."

Foot - ANG : Van Nistelrooy veut finir à MU

Man Utd sign Smith
Manchester United have confirmed the signing of England striker Alan Smith from Leeds in a deal worth £7m.
Smith passed a medical on Wednesday and then put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old, a life-long Leeds fan, would have been due a cut of his old club´s fee because he never asked for a transfer, but he has waived this.
Manchester United defender Danny Pugh, 21, will be moving in the opposite direction as part of the deal.
Leeds will receive £6m immediately with the other £1m reflected in the club´s savings after Smith waived his fee, and " other associated considerations".
The Yorkshire club also pointed out they have incurred no agents´ fees.
Leeds chairman Gerald Krasner said: " We are beginning a major programme of rebuilding and restructuring at Leeds and we both believe his immediate future in football lies away from Elland Road.
" We know the feelings he has for our club and supporters and what it means to him to leave the number 17 shirt behind. We thank him for his service to Leeds and wish him well in his future career."
