ManUtd.com are sad to report the death of George Capper, who made three appearances with the club in the 1944/45 season.
Born in Aston-Under-Lyne on 7 April 1926, Capper began playing football as a schoolboy at Waterloo Council School.
In 1940, after leaving school, he started work with Ashton National Gas Engine Company and played for the works team, now known as Curzon Ashton.
After brief spells with Manchester City and Burnley in 1943/44, and trials with Southport in 1944, Capper came to United for the start of the 1944/45 season.
His time playing for the Club in the Football League North came to an end when he was called up for army service in 1945. George did, however, continue with his football in the Army and played in the R.O.A.C. Army Association Cup winning team, and winning a medal.
After the War, Capper had a spell with Stalybridge Celtic, but continued with his career as an engineer with Ashton National, and then with Gallahers Tobacco until he retired.
George passed away on 28 March 2003.

=>"David Beckham exclusive interview - Part II"
We asked for your questions to David Beckham, and we asked them to him...
If you were still just a United fan and hadn’t made it as a player, which current squad player’s name and number would you have on your shirt?
Andy Cuthbert
Gary Neville. No, that was a joke!( QUEL ENFOIRE!!!) I would have to say Seba, he’s a great player. People have come up to me and said about the warm-up that he and I do, knocking the ball to each other. Fans say they just come to games to see that! I don’t know how it started, we just did it one game and it’s stuck. It’s just our way of warming up.
What’s been your most embarrassing moment, on or off the pitch?
Syafa Sam
There are too many to choose from! There was a certain amount of embarrassment from the Ali G stuff( SACRE ALI G!), but not much because it was for charity and Victoria and I both knew what was coming. We enjoyed it, actually!
Would you like Brooklyn and Romeo to play for United?
Stephen Kelly
I’d love them to play for United. I’d love them to go into football, but I’ll support them in whatever they want to go into, as any dad would.
Does it ever get on your nerves that you have to live your life in a fishbowl?
Rokstar
No, because I’ve come to terms with the fact that that’s the way my life is now. You can either accept it or go the other way and snap at everyone who comes up to you. That’s not my way, as I like meeting people. People come and talk to me in Manchester and London and it’s fine. I don’t mind signing autographs.
Has being a father affected your game in any way?
Suzala
It’s made me grow up a lot, so I’d have to say it’s made my game a lot better. I’m content and happy.
What’s the best hairstyle you’ve had during your career so far?
John Ly
The skinhead was the easiest one! I’m sure there’s a few left to come!
In the 1999 Champions league quarter final against Inter Milan at Old trafford, when you were up against Diego Simeone for the first time since the World Cup incident, what was it that Paul Scholes said to you that made you laugh after Simeone shook hands with you in the line up prior to kick off?
Carl Fogarty
God I can’t remember! I know he said something to me, but what was it? No, I can’t remember. You probably wouldn’t be able to print it anyway!
=>PART I ! !!!!!!!
"David Beckham exclusive interview - Part I "
Simon Davies caught up with David Beckham in the build-up to the Reds´ massive League match against Fulham. It´s a must-win match for United, but Becks believes the lads can go all the way...
Starting with the Fulham match there are eight games to go in the League – do you think United can still catch Arsenal?
We have to believe we can. Obviously we’re not in the best of positions but it’s up to us to put it right. If we can stay in touch until we go to Highbury, then maybe there’s a chance. They might be a few points in front but if we can get a result there then they might get a bit nervous. They’re a world-class team, though.
Do you think the fact that the United squad has more experience of winning the title will gives us an advantage over the Gunners?
We have got that experience, but we’ve got to show it now that we’re being put to the test. We’re chasing them at the moment, and if we can carry on getting results – which we need to do for the rest of the season – then maybe we’ve got a chance.
How much do you pay attention to the Arsenal scores when you’re not playing – do you watch their matches if they’re on TV or do you listen to the scores on the radio if you’re in the car?
Yeah, you always watch or listen and you’re always secretly hoping that they’ll mess up the game. They don’t look like doing that often, but you never know in football.
If United win the League this year, will it be this team’s greatest ever Premiership achievement?
I think it will, as we’re up against a team who for the last couple of years have been competing with Manchester United. It will be a big achievement if we can do it as I regard Arsenal as a very good team.
United’s inconsistent performances in the league have probably been the most frustrating aspect of the season. Can you put your finger on why the team have been quite so up and down in the Premiership?
We’ve not been beating the teams we have in the past. On top of that we’ve not won the big games either. Five years ago we would have beaten these teams easily – it’s just not happening at the moment. It’s hard to know how we can beat Juventus then draw against Bolton, with all due respect. It’s not an excuse, but twelve o’clock kick-offs don’t help. We’re playing a world class team on the Wednesday then coming back to play on the Saturday morning. We’ve had that a lot this season, though, and it’s up to us to overcome it.
The players hate the noon kick-offs as much as the fans then?
It’s not easy to eat pasta at nine o’clock in the morning, I know that much! That puts you off quite a lot. That’s the thing that the players don’t like!
Which of your own performances in the league this season have given you the most satisfaction and why?
I’m not sure I can pick one out, really. I’ve been quite pleased with overall performances at times but it’s been hard this season. It’s been tough on the team as we’ve had some hard games in Europe but we’ve not really been performing in the League. It’s been a tough season.
A lot of fans and pundits have suggested this is your best ever season in a United shirt, is that an assessment you’d agree with?
I don’t know really. I just try and play my football and try to do well. It’s nice when people say things like that.
Who for you has been United’s player of the season then?
I think there’s not just one. Phil Neville, John O’Shea and Nicky Butt – players who don’t play every week. They’re Manchester United. They’re the players who win you titles and come in when you’re injured. They’re top class and they have been all season.
And the rest of the League? Who gets your PFA Player of the Year vote?
I’d go for Thierry Henry. He’s been amazing this season, and has scored some fantastic goals. He always look dangerous, and even though he plays for our main rivals he still gets my vote for Player of the Season.
What do you think are opponents Fulham’s strengths and weaknesses?
They’re very tough to play against. They showed that when they first came into the Premiership – their first game was at Old Trafford and it was a hard game for us. They’ve done that ever since, they make it hard for you by playing good football. It’s always tough against them.
You’re friends with Mohammed Al Fayed. Will you be personally welcoming him to Old Trafford?
If he’s there, I’ll say hello! I’m pretty good friends with him and he always makes a point of coming to see me when we play down there.
Has he ever tried to persuade you to sign for Fulham?
No! He wouldn’t do that!
There has been a lot of talk in the media about possible comings and goings at Old Trafford this summer. Do these rumours affect the dressing room?
No, not at all. People try to upset the bond that we’ve got and that won’t happen. Whatever people think, we all get on very well with each other. No-one has got a problem with anyone else. What happens outside the game doesn’t affect what we think of each other. What people have got to remember is that most of us have been together for ten years, and we all know what we’re all like. Rumours never upset us.
Although you’re one of the most famous footballers on the planet, which footballing legend have you enjoyed meeting the most?
My all-time hero was Bryan Robson…
Really? You never said…
Ha ha I know… But for me I was the most starstruck when I met him at fifteen. I’m still the same now. I’m like “God! It’s Bryan Robson!” I’ve met people like Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos – they’re really good people. The nicest I’ve met has been Alessandro del Piero. He’s a really top bloke.
And is there anyone you haven’t met that you’d like to?
Not really, to be honest. Growing up I wanted to meet all the top class players, and I’ve been lucky enough to do that. I’m sure there are a few still out there to meet though!

=>"Man Utd move for Geremi" ( tres bon joueur alors c cool!)
Manchester United are poised to wreck Middlesbrough´s move to make Real Madrid star´s loan deal permanent by clinching an £8m summer transfer, according to reports.
Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren had hoped to seal a deal for the 24-year-old Cameroon international after his impressive performances at The Riverside this season.
But Real´s asking price has proved a stumbling block for Boro, as it did for Chelsea when they attempted to clinch a permanent deal last summer.
Now United are understood have opened negotiations with Real, with boss Sir Alex Ferguson earmarking Geremi as the man to boost his midfield next season.
Ferguson is attracted by Geremi´s goalscoring versatility across all the midfield positions, particularly with captain Roy Keane´s massive influence starting to wane.
Middlesbrough had hoped to add Geremi to their squad on a permanent basis, particularly with a summer move planned for Kevin Phillips when Sunderland´s relegation is confirmed

=>United´s lesson from history
By Tom Fordyce
Beckham and Neville celebrate the comeback win over Juve in 1999
As Sir Alex Ferguson´s players arrive back in Manchester after their comprehensive 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid, the mood within the team is downbeat.
United need to win by two clear goals in the second leg at Old Trafford to prevent themselves crashing out of the Champions League at the quarter-final stage - and even then, they cannot let Real score more than once.
Ferguson believes United can still go through - but what do the history books tell him?
In United´s long and distinguished record in European competitions, how have they fared when needing to win after a first-leg defeat?
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Comeback kings
Man Utd 3-0 Atletico Bilbao, European Cup, 1957
The Busby Babes served notice of their extraordinary but tragically short-lived promise on a cold February night at Old Trafford.
Trailing 5-3 after a first-leg hammering in Bilbao, United battled back to triumph 3-0 on the night and go through 6-5 on aggregate thanks to goals from Dennis Viollet, Johnny Berry and, in the last few seconds. Tommy Taylor.
It was United´s first season in the European Cup, the beginning of a love-affair which continues to this day. Yet, ominously for Ferguson´s men, the team who ended United´s hopes that year were none other than Real Madrid.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Comeback clowns
Man Utd 1-2 Bayern Munich, Champions League, 2001
United trailed 1-0 to a first-leg Paulo Sergio goal as they travelled to Munich in search of a semi-final place.
But Elber and Mehmet Scholl struck in the first and final five minutes of a sensational first half to leave United with a mountain to climb.
Ryan Giggs pulled a goal back in the second half but United never looked like denying Bayern the revenge they craved after that last-gasp Champions League final defeat two years previously.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Comeback kings
Man Utd 3-0 Barcelona, Cup Winners´ Cup, 1984
For Real Madrid now, read Barcelona then - Spanish giants led by a South American legend.
Where Real have Ronaldo, Barca had Diego Maradona - and after a 2-0 win in the Nou Camp, they seemed to be cruising through.
But, in another echo of the present day, United were inspired to a wonderful comeback by the driving force of England´s captain in their midfield.
Can David Beckham re-create Bryan Robson´s virtuoso display of 19 years ago? That night, Robson scored twice, Frank Stapleton once, as United blew the Spaniards away.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Comeback clowns
Man Utd 1-0 Partizan Belgrade, European Cup 1966
United had lost 2-0 in Belgrade, but ran out at Old Trafford confident that they could make good the deficit.
But it was not to be. Stout defending from Partizan kept United at bay for the entire first half, and a solitary second half goal was not enough to keep Sir Matt Busby´s re-built side from going out.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Comeback kings
Juventus 2-3 Man Utd, Champions League, 1999
Can Beckham re-create the magic of four years ago?
United had scraped a 1-1 draw at home in the first leg of the semi-final thanks to a late Ryan Giggs equaliser, but had looked far from convincing.
Within 11 minutes of the second their hopes of a first Champions League final since 1968 seemed to have gone; two goals from Filippo Inzaghi leaving them 3-1 down on aggregate.
Then the comeback began. Roy Keane grabbed one back on 24 minutes, Dwight Yorke brought them level 10 minutes later and Andy Cole sealed the win - their first ever on Italian soil - six minutes from the end.
And if United want an omen for this year, who was the gifted playmaker in the opposition midfield who ran the first match but ended the second anonymous?
None other than Zinedine Zidane, Real´s best player on Tuesday night.

Story by Editor 11 April 2003
Spanish reaction to the Champions League tie
Our correspondent in Spain reports that the general feeling
amongst Madrid fans is that Madrid would have wiped the
floor, 5 or 6-0, with any team in Europe other than United.
Madrid´s first-half performance was the best they have seen
in years and equal to any they can remember from legendary
teams in the past.
Apparently United are the only team this season to go to
Bernabeu to attack and only team to create as many chances
as they did. Feelings are confident but with a realisation
that there is still a job to do.
Statistics look good for United though, Madrid have gone
into the return match of European ties with a 3-1 advantage
on seven occasions and they have been eliminated four times.
1971/72 PSV 2 Madrid 0
1978/79 Grasshoppers 2 Madrid 0
1981/82 Kaiserslauten 5 Madrid 0
1992/93 PSG 4 Madrid 1
And don’t expect a big following for the second leg, only
400 Madrid fans are expected to travel to Old Trafford for
the return leg. The fans will be members of the Peñas
( supporters clubs) La Gran Familia and Cinco Estrellas. The
problematic Ultra Sur group will not receive tickets and
will not travel.
