Leeds have rejected two offers from Manchester United for their striker Alan Smith.
The Old Trafford club reportedly offered £3.5m for the 23-year-old Englishman before upping it to £5.5m

Leeds, relegated to Division One this season, value Smith at nearer £10m and a club spokesman said: " Both offers were rejected immediately.

" The offers by Manchester United substantially undervalue Alan Smith´s position as a top Premiership player."

History Beckons For Crocked Keane

Roy Keane will make a post-war record sixth FA Cup Final appearance if he can shake off a hamstring injury in time to face Millwall.
United´s club captain will become only the second player in history to reach the landmark, but is highly unlikely to overtake the man ahead of him.

That man is Lord Arthur Kinnaird, who appeared in nine of the first eleven FA Cup Finals, representing Wanderers and Old Etonians.

Kinnaird´s record is almost certain to remain unbeaten, since only Keane and Arsenal´s Ray Parlour are still playing out of the 15 players who have appeared in five finals.

As such, an appearance in Saturday´s showpiece will distance Keane from his peers and will give the Irishman a deserved place in the post-war history books.

Keane´s first final appearance came for Nottingham Forest in the 1990/91 season, where Brian Clough´s men were beaten 2-1 by Spurs after a late own-goal by Des Walker.

The Irishman also tasted defeat in 1995, as Paul Rideout´s goal was enough for Everton to beat United 1-0 at Wembley.

His first Cup winner´s medal came in 1994 as United hammered Chelsea 4-0, with two penalties from Eric Cantona and strikes from Mark Hughes and Brian McClair.

Keane was also in the sides which beat Liverpool 1-0 in 1996 and Newcastle 2-0 in 1999.

The latter was a tainted victory, however, as Keane was injured by a challenge from Gary Speed and had to be substituted after just 9 minutes.

Injury didn´t stand in the way as United went on to complete the Treble, and hopefully on this occasion Keane will recover from his hamstring injury in time to take his place in history.

Morientes keen on Gunners move

Spanish striker Fernando Morientes has revealed he is flattered that Arsenal are reportedly interested in his signature.
Morientes is currently on loan at Monaco from Real Madrid but will return to Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season.

He has enjoyed a fantastic spell in France with his goals playing a key part in Monaco reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League.

The lethal forward is the competition´s top scorer and his form has alerted a string of clubs to his potential availability in the summer.

Morientes has two years remaining on his Real contract but the signs are that he will be shipped out of the Spanish capital permanently.

Chelsea are rumoured to be among his admirers while speculation has suggested Premiership champions Arsenal are ready to fork out £17.5 million for Morientes.

That would constitute a mammoth outlay for The Gunners, with Morientes seemingly clearing the way for a move to Highbury.

He admits he is tempted by a switch to The Premiership but is waiting to learn what Real´s plans are before making a decision.

" I´m proud that they are interested in me," Morientes told The Sun.

" There are some big clubs in England and it´s a very competitive league.

" I´ve been away from Real Madrid for a year and I don´t know what will happen.

" If an offer comes from England then Real Madrid have to take the decision but I´d like to go there."

c fort quand meme ils sont endettés mais ils peuvent mettre 17,5M£ pour un joueur c à desesperer d´etre riche...

Kop in bid to snatch Smith
Liverpool are trying to hijack Manchester United´s bid to sign up-for-grabs striker Alan Smith. Anfield boss Gerard Houllier has been keeping close tabs on Smith and the club yesterday opened talks with the Leeds and England star. The shock move came on the day United had two bids turned down by Leeds - and were told they would have to cough up £10m to lad the striker.

BORO LINING UP VIDUKA SWOOP

Middlesbrough are believed to have stepped up their efforts to sign Leeds United striker Mark Viduka.

Boro boss Steve McClaren is looking to make a major splash in the transfer market and it is understood that the Teessiders are pressing ahead to try and broker a deal for the giant Australian.

Viduka was a target for McClaren in January, as was Emile Heskey ¿ who has since joined Birmingham City from Liverpool.

Boro also targeted Viduka´s team-mate Alan Smith, but it looks as if he could be on his way to Manchester United.

That leaves Viduka as the Carling Cup winners´ primary striking target as they look to bolster their squad ahead of next season ¿ which will see them enter European competition for the first time.

The former Celtic ace has indicated that a move abroad would appeal, but Boro are also an attractive option as it would mean he would not have to relocate from his Yorkshire base.

Leeds´ relegation means that Viduka could be available for around £5 million ¿ which would not prove an obstacle to Boro, who are looking to invest this summer.

The North East club are believed to be looking at sealing a quick deal, but Viduka is currently holidaying in Australia which would mean any deal being delayed until his return.

on ne devrait pas voir viduka chez nous ce qui me fait très plaisir. si on est chanceux on va peut-etre avoir torres à mu... :doute:
