Fergie plots to hijack Gerrard
Alex Ferguson is set to make an audacious £20m swoop for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. SunSport revealed yesterday Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had his eye on Gerrard as part of a double transfer move to get him and Chelsea’s John Terry. But Ferguson will fight to hijack the signature of Gerrard, a player he hugely admires and who can reignite Manchester United’s midfield. If he gets any inkling the England international is ready to leave, he will use United’s financial might to outbid the Gunners and offer bigger wages for the player.

mais bon la je reve .

CITY STARLET LINKED WITH REDS MOVE

Barton: Reds link

Related stories:

Keegan plays down Barton row

Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton has emerged as a summer transfer target for Liverpool, according to widespread reports.
Barton´s combative performances this season are rumoured to have caught the eye of Reds boss Gerard Houllier.

The 21-year-old is allegedly a boyhood Reds fan and may be offered the chance to link up with his heroes at the end of the season.

Speculation suggests that Houllier is plotting a £2.5 million raid on City, with both clubs having endured disappointing campaigns.

England Under-21 international Barton is under contract at The City of Manchester Stadium until 2005 but is able to negotiate a new deal once he has made a certain number of appearances.

His future with the Premiership strugglers could be somewhat hazy following recent reports of a bust-up with manager Kevin Keegan after he was dropped for the match against Southampton earlier this month.

Keegan played down talk of a rift with the starlet and brought Barton back into the fold for last Saturday´s draw at Leicester City.

But the end of the season could provide the opportunity to completely clear the air once City´s Premiership fate is resolved.

Liverpool´s alleged intensifying interest in Barton could have been sparked by recent media rumours suggesting Manchester United are planning a summer bid for Reds captain Steven Gerrard.

BARCA: WE ARE ABLE TO BUY RUUD

Barcelona have warned Manchester United that they have the financial muscle to lure Ruud van Nistelrooy away from Old Trafford in the summer.
Despite the Dutchman´s affirmation that he is fully committed to representing the FA Cup finalists, after signing a new contract recently, there have been rumblings in the media that all is not well with the former PSV Eindhoven hot-shot.

Although he appeared in the win over Charlton Athletic, van Nistelrooy then sat out the dreadful performance against Liverpol at the weekend, as concerns continue over his fitness.

The Holland hit-man was seen as ´untouchable´ at United but the sale of key man David Beckham last summer has seemingly given hope to both Barca and Real Madrid that they could tempt Sir Alex Ferguson to off-load one of his most important performers.

" The club will be able to invest €50 to €60 million in acquisitions," Barcelona´s financial vice-president Ferran Soriano told COM Radio.

" All is possible, even van Nistelrooy.

" There is not any player who is out of our market, only ones that their clubs will not sell, such as ( Thierry) Henry, the same as we will not sell Ronaldinho.

" There is a list for three names for each position."

Van Nistelrooy´s agent Roger Linse met with Real president Florentino Perez recently, and United fans will be hoping the team do not even consider selling their talismanic striker in the summer.

Meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has moved to rubbish speculation that van Nistelrooy had a training ground fight with David Bellion.

The Norwegian feels there is a media campaign designed to attack The Red Devils.

" That is just nonsense," Solskjaer told VG. " Nothing happened and I was also at that training session.

" Somebody seems to be after us."

" Leeds keen on quick sales"

Leeds have hired an agent to broker the sale of their top players, according to newspaper reports.
The reports claim Phillip Morrison has been appointed by Leeds as the club´s negotiator until 16 May - the day after the end of the Premiership season.

The timing means Morrison is looking to arrange transfers while the club are fighting for their top-flight status.

Alan Smith, Paul Robinson and Mark Viduka are all expected to leave Elland Road if Leeds are relegated.

Leeds are keen to have buyers in place quickly in case the club´s perilous situation demands money quickly.

The agent has been hired by Leeds managing director David Richmond and the players at the club have apparently been made aware of the development.

A fax outlining the situation has already been distributed to clubs and fellow agents by Morrison.

Transfers between Premiership clubs cannot happen until the season has finished and so Morrison´s contract means he is at the club purely to arrange deals, for which he will be paid commission when the move is completed.

Smith has already made it clear to fans that he will probably be leaving the club at the end of the season - and others are expected to follow.

Foot - POR : Scolari menace C. Ronaldo

Joaquin expecting summer move

Real Betis winger Joaquin believes his club could well cash in on him this summer and has reiterated his preference for a move to Real Madrid.
The 22-year-old admits he is aware of Chelsea´s interest in him, and revealed that such was the flurry of media speculation linking him with Stamford Bridge over the past few days he even thought Betis had chosen to sell him without informing him.

However, the Spanish international insisted he would prefer to remain in Spain, and conceded he would push for a move to Real this summer if he was involved in the decision-making process.

" I believe it will be easier for them ( Betis) to sell me this summer than last year," he told Radio Sevilla.

" Amongst other things because they ( interested clubs) will pay more money for me.

" But if I do go I would like to choose the club.

" If the ( Betis) president ( Manuel Ruiz de Lopera) feels that I must leave then he will have to do it.

" But it is clear to me, I don´t want to move from Spain, I´d even like to stay with my Betis.

" But if they sell me I would prefer it to be to a Spanish team. To ( Real) Madrid? Then, yes."

On Chelsea´s interest, he continued: " When the Chelsea thing came up I was very nervous.

" All the media were calling me. I didn´t know what was going on.

" I said to myself, ´Perhaps they have sold me?´

" I thought this because neither the president nor my father ( and agent) told me anything.

" The Russian ( Abramovich) is one of the few people who is able to make a good offer. But also Madrid and Barca could."

Barca chief fears for Ronnie

Barcelona president Joan Laporta admits he is worried that Roman Abramovich´s millions could turn the head of Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho.
The South American has been in breathtaking form this term, proving the hit of the Spanish season following his move from Paris Saint Germain last summer.

He demonstrated his audacious skills by setting up Barca´s winner against arch rivals Real Madrid last Sunday with an outrageous scooped pass to Xavi.

It was a glimpse of the kind of form that has mesmorised Camp Nou all campaign, but Laporta is fearful that his displays will have caught the eyes of Europe´s big spenders.

The Barca supremo is adamant that the club will not entertain the thought of selling the 24-year-old, but conceded that the fortunes of Chelsea chief Abramovich could tempt the player.

" The will of the board is to do everything possible to keep Ronaldinho," Laporta declared.

" But I am also aware it will not be easy because teams who can put a lot of money in front of Barca will want him, but this does not worry me because we won´t sell him.

" I understand that they will make the player substantial offers, but I am confident that he understands that he is very highly considered at Barcelona.

" It is a pride for us to have him and he´s a hero for the whole city, here we consider him a person for his human quality.

" He´s the master of his own decisions and of his own person.

" If he takes notice of some proposals that he is offered, the player could cease to have his great human quality."

In a clear reference to Abramovich, he continued: " A petrol magnate or an Arab sheikh could come along ( with a lot of money for Roanldinho), but he would then cease to be master of his own person.

" But I have faith in him, he still has a contract for four years."
