MOYES: ROONEY STAYING PUT
Everton manager David Moyes has insisted that starlet Wayne Rooney is being groomed for success at Goodison Park and nowhere else.
The gifted 18-year-old is being eyed by both Chelsea and Manchester United, as he continues to impress for both club and country.
The Toffees are now reportedly lining up a new five-year contract which would be worth at least £30,000-a-week.
" We are not grooming him for them or anyone else," he said of Chelsea´s interest.
" He is going nowhere.
" Sometimes you need to be given good advice about the way ahead, especially when you are just starting out on a career.
" I was not here when Franny [Jeffers] left for Arsenal and, to be fair, Everton received a terrific offer.
" But maybe, in hindsight, you are better off staying where you are at the age and learning the ropes a bit longer.
" When you look at David Beckham, he had well and truly served his apprenticeship with Manchester United before thinking of moving on and joining Real Madrid.
" That is how it should be. The point about Wayne is that his development has only just started.
" He will become a much better player in time, and he will do it here.
" We have been able to spot mistakes in his game and correct them by working with him on a daily basis.
" That is how he will gain experience and continue improving.
" The aim is not only to build a team around Wayne, but by the virtue of his presence, attract more players of similar stature to the club.
" It is up to us to bring in more top-quality players so we can create a situation where Wayne can achieve his objectives with Everton."
