Carroll set for FA Cup slot

Manchester United goalkeeper Roy Carroll looks to have won his battle with Tim Howard for an FA Cup final place against Millwall in Cardiff.
Carroll replaced Howard as first choice and manager Sir Alex Ferguson is set to retain him for the rest of the season.

Ferguson said: " Roy is a full international who has been with us for three years and done fantastically well when whenever we´ve called on him.

" We recognise Tim needs a break and needs time to regain his freshness."

Ferguson added: " Roy has come in and done brilliantly. He´s been very patient in waiting for his opportunity and he´s proved his class when he´s played for us."

And Howard admits his team-mate has earned the right to keep his place.

He said: " I want to be out there playing, but the manager knows best and I trust his judgement.

" It´s difficult to watch from the stands when you´ve been playing regularly but you have to give Roy credit. He´s done well and deserves to be playing right now.

" I know what he´s capable of because I train with him every day. Goalkeeper is a strange position because you have to train with your immediate competitor every day and no quarter is given.

" I definitely want to get back in the side as soon as possible but it´s up to the manager to make that choice."

" Bellion Plans For Reds Future"

David Bellion arrived at Old Trafford as part of a quintet of youthful summer buys; blessed with blistering pace, the young Parisian forward perhaps possesses the most raw talent of the five.

At 20, Bellion has time on his side to develop other areas of his game; his recent strike in the 3-0 win over Spurs an indication that much progress has been made.

The former Cannes and Sunderland attacker is first to admit he is still learning the more subtle arts of the game, but says he is at the right club to do just that.

" I´m not going to say it has been my best season because I know I have a lot to learn," Bellion told the Manchester Evening News. " But, United is the biggest club in the world and the best place to learn and I still have a long way to go.

" When you see the standard of players like Scholesy, Keano and Giggsy you want to be like them, know what´s in their minds and concentrate all the time.

" I know what it means to wear the United shirt and that´s why I always try and give more than 100 per cent for the club. I am doing better than I was six months ago so I´m very happy."

" I want to be part of the 11 and I know I´ll get there. I am enjoying every day of my life here and I am happy to just keep working hard."
David Bellion

The Frenchman has been forced to perform a bit-part role in the current campaign, but says the frustration at not being involved with the first team every week is tempered by the knowledge that he is developing his all-round ability.

" It is difficult only because you love football and want to play in every game but at the same time it is a test to know how you react when you don´t play," he said.

And Bellion is taking notes from another player at United whose game is centred around pace.

" When I look at Giggsy - one of my favourite players - I know how important it is that he is in the team all the time.

" I don´t compare myself to anybody because that would be big-headed but I love the way Ryan Giggs plays. For me he is amazing. When he is on fire nobody can stop him.

" Paul Scholes is maybe a more complete player and Roy Keane is a big-game player, but for me I just love to see Ryan Giggs.

" The way he beats three of four players as if they were not there. When he gets the ball the game is just great to watch."

Sir Alex is building for the future with the likes of Ronaldo, Fletcher, Djemba-Djemba and Tim Howard providing the crux of a possible new generation; Bellion hopes to be part of the next era at Old Trafford.

" I know I have made mistakes but I am learning. That´s the difference with the experienced players, they are not perfect but they rarely make mistakes.

" They are great players and we have a new adventure at the club now with new young players coming into the reckoning."

FREY TALKING WITH SEVEN CLUBS

Sebastien Frey´s representative Christian Payan has confirmed his client is holding talks with seven clubs, but as yet the interested parties are staying un-named.
Arsenal have been consistently linked with a move for the Parma star, however The Gunners will have to battle it out with a number of sides if they are to secure his signature.

Highbury boss Arsene Wenger brought in German international Jens Lehmann at the start of the season to replace David Seaman, however his displays have often been inconsistent.

Payan confirmed three of the interested parties are based in England, but as yet the clubs´ names are not being confirmed in order to respect their current squad members.

" At the moment, I´m in talks with seven major teams in Europe for Sebastien Frey - three are in England," said Payan.

" The English press are saying ´talks are closed with Arsenal´, but I think it´s a tactic to establish my contact.

" Currently, the seven teams want to remain undisclosed to respect the current goalkeepers at their clubs."
