Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken about the resolution of his dispute with racing tycoon John Magnier. " I am glad that it has been an amicable settlement. I am satisfied." ( The Sunday Times)

United have crashed out of the FA Youth Cup after a 2-0 defeat against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

Brian McClair´s side, who won the trophy last season, rarely reached their usual high standards and were deservedly beaten by a hard-working Rovers side.

The Reds fell behind to a 16th minute penalty from Joel Byrom and their fate was sealed by Keith Barker´s header seven minutes from time.

FOOTBALL: VAART A PRIORITY Mar 7 2004

MANCHESTER UNITED lost out to Chelsea in the race for Arjan Robben, and Sir Alex Ferguson has urged the Old Trafford board not to allow Ajax´s Rafael van der Vaart to go the same way.

Van der Vaart, who only turned 21 last month, is regarded as the hottest property in Dutch football and Ajax fear that with all the world´s top clubs registering an interest they will have to cash in on the playmaker.

Van der Vaart, whose mother is Spanish, has declared that if he leaves Ajax he would prefer to move to Barcelona - the club he has supported since boyhood.

But it´s unlikely that the Catalan club would be able to win an auction that could top £25m involving Real Madrid and AC Milan as well as United and Chelsea.

=>Une nouvelle rumeur en défense...

MIGUEL LINKED WITH RED DEVILS
Sunday 7th March 2004

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Benfica defender Miguel, according to reports in Portugal.
It has been claimed that Sir Alex Ferguson has been looking to scout in Lisbon again after landing Sporting sensation Cristiano Ronaldo last summer.

The Red Devils have also been linked with Porto´s Paulo Ferreira, who shone when United were compiling a dossier on their UEFA Champions League opponents.

Miguel is an attacking right back who signed a new contract with Benfica in November that runs until 2008.

The 24-year-old, full name Luis Miguel Brito Garcia Monteiro, arrived at Estadio da Luz from Estrela da Amadora, and has adapted well to a more defensive role after making his name as a probing player.

Reports suggest United despatched representatives to a recent training camp in Nyon to spy on Miguel and also watched him in action during the Uefa Cup tie with Rosenborg.

Portuguese daily A Bola also insists that official contact has been made between the two clubs with Benfica informing United of their valuation of the full back.

Miguel played against England in the recent friendly international but was perhaps at fault with Ledley King´s goal in the 1-1 draw.

Et enfin, qq news sur Trabelsi:

TRABELSI CONSIDERING OPTIONS
Sunday 7th March 2004

Ajax right back Hatem Trabelsi has admitted that his agent has been in talks with Premiership giants Arsenal and Chelsea.
The Tunisian African Cup of Nations winner is coming to the end of his contract with the Amsterdam club and is thought to be keen on a move to England or Italy.

Manchester United and Juventus are also thought to be interested in the defender, who impressed with the Dutch giants in the UEFA Champions League the past two seasons.

It is thought that the 27-year-old´s representative Frank Seedoc met with The Gunners about a possible summer move, with Arsene Wenger keen to add the powerful left back to his Highbury back four.

" I know my agent has spoken to Arsenal and Chelsea," Trabelsi told The Mirror.

" I like The Premiership and the Italian Championship, so I must choose the right club for me.

" I am out of contract this summer, so I am able to sign a pre-contract before the end of the season."

One problem that any interested club might face in signing Trabelsi is that Ajax believe they have a unilateral option to extend his contract for another two seasons, thus not making him a Bosman free in the summer.

It is reported, however, that the Amsterdammers are prepared to sell that option as part of a transfer deal for the North African star.
