Keane gets one-game ban
Manchester United captain Roy Keane has been handed a one-match ban by Uefa for his sending off against Porto.
The Irishman was red carded during United´s 2-1 Champions League defeat in Portugal on 25 February.
Keane was automatically banned for the second leg of the Porto tie because of his dismissal.
But now Uefa have decided not to hand the midfielder any further punishment so he would be available for the quarter-finals, should United qualify.
Keane was shown the 11th red card of his United career for standing on Vitor Baia as the keeper beat him to a long ball.
If Roy wants to make himself available in the future, I have no problems with that
Irish boss Brian Kerr
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson dismissed the incident, which sparked a furious touchline argument with opposite number Jose Mourinho last week.
Meanwhile, Republic of Ireland coach Brian Kerr has said he would welcome Keane back, providing he is willing to play by the rules.
Keane has not played for his country since walking out of their World Cup training camp in Japan nearly two years ago, but hinted recently he could return to the international fold.
Kerr told the Dublin Evening Herald: " If Roy wants to make himself available in the future, I have no problems with that. But ultimately I´ll be in charge.
" The team will be run my way. Anyone who comes into the panel will be treated exactly the same as the rest of the squad.
" Every player has to be committed and has to live within the rules of the team.
" Everybody knows how to get in touch with me if they want to come back. But anyone who wants to return has to know it´s right for them."

" Ferguson goes on the attack"
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has vowed to adopt an all-out attack policy after being robbed of his entire first-choice defence.
Quinton Fortune is the latest casualty after suffering cartilage damage and Ferguson said: " Defensively we are pretty depleted.
" It´s difficult to say exactly how long Quinton will be out and it´s a blow.
" But we do have plenty of attacking options, that´ll be the name of the game. I just hope we can score enough."
South Africa international Fortune, who has been playing as a left-back for United this season, will be out for a minimum of three weeks.
He has spent the past two days on crutches and is due to undergo surgery on the knee.
Rio Ferdinand and Gary Neville are both suspended, and Mikael Silvestre is battling back to fitness from a knee ligament injury.
Ferguson has rated Silvestre´s chances of making the FA Cup quarter-final tie against Fulham as " doubtful".
We haven´t been to a final for five years and we are determined to get there this time
Sir Alex Ferguson
The United boss admitted his side´s next two games with Fulham and FC Porto in the Champions League would be crucial to their season.
United are nine points adrift of Arsenal in the Premiership, with the FA Cup and Europe representing their best chance of silverware this term.
" The next five days are extremely important to our season, they really are," said Ferguson.
" We are going into two massive one-off games. The positive thing is that we are at home in both.
" Although we are a goal behind against Porto, we have an away goal which is an advantage to us.
" And while Fulham have improved a lot this season, if you have a home draw in the quarter-final, you have to take advantage of it.
" We haven´t been to a final for five years and we are determined to get there this time. I think we have served our penance now for the year we withdrew."
=>Défense trés expérimentale en vue ^^
Petite info à part:
The Daily Express reports that more than 200 league footballers are alcoholics and 25% have confessed to having a drink problem.
200 c´est énorme o0 ^^
UNITED BACK ON MEXES TRAIL
Manchester United are back on the trail of Auxerre´s outstanding Philippe Mexes - who will be departing the French club this summer.
The 20-year-old has been told by Auxerre that he will be sold this summer and this has once again been confirmed by his representative Oliver Jouanneaux.
" Auxerre have told us that Philippe will be sold this summer," he told skysports.com.
The news comes after United dispatched chief scout Martin Ferguson to watch Mexes - a player they have been tracking for almost a decade - in action against Paris Saint German on Sunday. Mexes is one of the best young defenders in Europe and clearly a number of clubs will have him high on their shopping list this summer.
Reports in France had suggested that Mexes wanted a move to Spain, but Jouanneaux insists that England is still likely to be first choice for his talented client.
" There were reports saying Spain was Philippe´s preferred move, but that is not true," he continued.
" I think, and having talked with him, that the English style would be best for him as he would have more time to play - which is what he is good at."
Jouanneaux also emphasised that Mexes will take time in deciding his future.
" It is nice when clubs are watching, but Philippe does not get carried away with this sort of thing," he continued.
" He will be expecting to play at a good club in the Champions League, but essential will be what the club and the coach has to say to him.
" We don´t know who will want him in the summer or who will come in for him.
" We know who has watched him, and Manchester United for instance already know him well as he went there about five years ago.
" Many clubs will not make themselves known, as they already know what Philippe can do and will probably wait until after Euro 2004.
" All this speculation is not unusual and he knows how to live with it."
The likes of Arsenal, Internazionale and Juventus have all been linked with Mexes in the past few years and it is unlikely that any one club will have a straight run at the stylish French stopper.
Barring injury Mexes will be in the France squad for Euro 2004 - and it is unlikely his future will be resolved before the player flies out to Portugal.
CANNAVARO EYEING INTER STAY
Fabio: Inter stay
Fabio Cannavaro has poured cold water on a possible move to The Premiership after stating he does not wish to leave Internazionale or Italian football.
The Italian international was linked with moves to English giants Chelsea and Manchester United; however the former Parma ace has no desire to depart Giuseppe Meazza.
In the unlikely event Cannavaro should make an exit from the Nerazzurri he only wishes to move to another Serie A side.
Sir Alex Ferguson´s United have been leaking goals since Rio Ferdinand´s ban, while Roman Abramovich´s Chelsea are always on the lookout to bring in world class talent.
" Firstly, I do not want to leave Inter," explained Cannavaro.
" They are Italian, I feel Italian and I still consider our league the best in the world.
" If I was forced to leave Inter, I would only move to another Serie A team."
