Can anybody at United please explain to me why there wasn´t more effort put into trying to secure the services of the outstanding talent Arjen Robben? Surely you can´t tell me that with the resources that this club possesses that the budget for this calibre of player couldn´t have been met? His influence in our attacking line-up would have given the side a real impetus. I´m disgusted that Chelsea with their ex-United executive are allowed to come in and just gazump us. Let´s hope that Fergie is allowed to target and secure the services of someone like the young Argentine Carlos Tevez of Boca Juniors before Chelsea get him as well.

There is one reason and one reason only why Arjen Robben has signed for Chelsea - Peter Kenyon. Having been identified as a target whilst he was at United, Kenyon has stolen in to sign him from under our noses. I believe he will go on to become one of the best young players in Europe and is a big loss for us. We must work hard to ensure we don´t surrender future targets to Chelsea. Anyway, I´d rather have Cristiano any day!

I think United should start spending. There is a Yoruba adage that says " Sweet soup is prepared with lots of money." If we are to form a quality team then we have to spend money. The loss of Ronaldinho was painful and this is another case of us missing out on a good player.
" Robben is an outstanding young talent and was a potential long term replacement for Ryan Giggs on the left. It hurts to know we have lost him to one of our biggest domestic and European rivals. "

How did we let Chelsea get Robben? He was the ideal replacement for Giggs. If Robben is out of the picture, the club better do everything possible to get Real Betis´s Joaquin. The transfer of players is centred around good relations and respect. Were we not first in line to get Robben if he was to leave PSV? How did our relationship with PSV decline to the point where Chelsea gazumped us? It was not as if the price was too high. The agreed fee between Chelsea and PSV makes me question the thinking of the club. I´m sure we would have to pay more for Joaquin.

Why are we so tight? We have money! Every player we want or say we want, Chelsea end up buying. We should be paying the price for the players even if they are higher than expected. If this club doesn’t sign any big signings soon the fans will be very frustrated.

Over the years United’s financial prudence has served them well. However, we will not attract the world’s best players if we are not prepared to outbid the opposition and sometimes pay top whack. We were outbid on Ronaldinho. Imagine the season United would have had with Ronaldinho in the side. We have now lost out on Robben, an outstanding young talent and a potential long term replacement for Ryan Giggs on the left. To make matters worse we have lost Robben to one of our biggest domestic and European rivals. It hurts. The board must back Fergie’s footballing nous in order to prevent United from slipping further down the domestic and European ladder. In terms of outstanding players, the squad is looking increasingly threadbare. United need three top class players in the summer: two defenders and a midfield play-maker with real imagination and genuine pace - a young player in the mould of, say, a Jay-Jay Okocha, Paulo Di Canio or a Zidane. At present - and it pains me to say so - we lack imagination and flair.

Arjen Robben must be the stupidest footballer around these days. Why he snubbed Man United I really don´t know. The young wonderkid has made a big mistake. I believe he will spend much of his time on the bench at Chelsea and he will enjoy limited playing time. A move to Manchester would have set his career on fire.

I´m really frustrated after hearing the news that Robben will join Chelsea instead of United. He is a great player with good prospects for his age and I thought that after the visit to United´s training ground, he would have his sights on joining United. Instead he has decided to join Chelsea. All I can say is he has made the wrong move.

How on earth can we lose out to Chelski in signing one of the brightest prospects in Europe? What if Robben turns out to be a massive star in Euro 2004? I hope we don´t rue this as a costly mistake. We need players who will provide some much needed spark to help us challenge for the title next season.

Chelsea are negotiating deals for Ajax right-back Hatem Trabelsi and teenage Anderlecht centre-half Vincent Kompany
My blue heaven
Arjen Robben has admitted he chose Chelsea over Manchester United because the Blues wanted him more. The Dutch sensation has become the second big-name star to snub United, following Ronaldinho’s decision last summer to join Barcelona. Robben, 20, who has told pals he will be given Damien Duff’s No 11 shirt, admitted: “It was a very nice personal touch for me. It was very important to know how much Chelsea wanted me. I was attracted to Manchester United. But Chelsea have proved the better option for both me and PSV and will help me develop as a player."
Charlie Wyett, The Sun
Robben hoods
Manchester United have been accused of trying to rip off PSV Eindhoven over Arjen Robben. Dutch winger Robben, who will join Chelsea in the summer for £12million, was on the verge of a move to Old Trafford. But the deal was dramatically called off leaving boss Alex Ferguson fuming. United, despite initially agreeing the fee, more than HALVED the offer to £5m after discovering PSV were hard-up.
L´argent coule à flot ^^ ^^

Sir Alex Ferguson presides over the world´s richest club
Manchester United have again topped the rich list of football clubs based on last season´s income.
The list, produced by accountants Deloitte, revealed that United´s income was £167.83m last term, well ahead of nearest rivals Juventus.
Juventus earned £145.75m, while crisis club Leeds are surprisingly 16th on the list after earning £61.41m.
Leeds´ presence is down to income, despite shares being suspended and reported debts of around £100m.
They dropped down from 11th place on the last list and the Premiership has a strong presence elsewhere.
Arsenal, who have finally confirmed plans to move to a new stadium based at Ashburton Grove to boost revenue, were named as the seventh richest club.
And they have now secured funding for the 60,000-seater stadium, which they expect to be open for the 2006/07 season.
Arsenal´s new stadium would massively increase revenue
Arsenal raised £260m for the Ashburton Grove project via a senior loan facility from a stadium facilities banking group, and added £97m themselves through Granada, Nike and sale of land
They earned £99.87m last season, with Liverpool a place behind with an income of £99.74m.
Liverpool are also in the process of putting plans together to move from Anfield to a 60,000-seater stadium in Stanley Park, near to their current home to increase their income.
They have applied for planning permission for the £80m stadium and - like Arsenal - want to make up ground lost to Manchester United financially and increase income by having a greater capacity.
Officials at both clubs are concerned at their ground capacity at both Highbury and Anfield being so far below United´s 67,000-plus at Old Trafford.
Newcastle United were ninth on the list with an income of £92.73m, while Chelsea, now backed by the financial muscle of billionaire Roman Abramovich, are a place behind with £89.32m.
Tottenham make the list in 15th ( £63.81m), while Scottish Premier League champions-elect Celtic earned £58.07m.
Champions League winners AC Milan were the third richest club with an income of £133.66m.
And Real Madrid, complete with England captain David Beckham, are fourth after earning £128.5m.
Manchester United also come out on top in comparison against the biggest sporting franchises in the United States, where the New York Yankees head the list with an income equivalent of £162.7m.
