Ferdinand D-Day another month away
Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand will have to wait another month before he knows when he will be able to start playing football again.
The England man has been out of the game since January when he voluntarily started the eight-month ban imposed on him for missing a random drugs test.
Ferdinand was found guilty by an independent tribunal in December but after lodging an appeal against the punishment, which included a £50,000 fine, opted to begin his suspension on 19 January, rather than continue playing until a date for the hearing had been fixed.
The Football Association has appointed prominent QC Ian Mills as the man to re-consider the evidence against Ferdinand, who claims he simply forgot after being told to stay behind after training in September, and went home instead of taking the drugs test.
A date has finally been fixed for the appeal - which could take the form of a full hearing following the production of a batch of new evidence by United - and Ferdinand will face Mr Mills on 18 and 19 March.
United hope to have Ferdinand´s ban slashed, but the England star could also have his sentence extended should Mr Mills feel the original punishment was inappropriate
