Glazer grabs more shares
Old Trafford has become a billionaires´ battleground after US businessman Malcolm Glazer bought another chunk of Manchester United. He pocketed 5.4million more shares to increase his stake in the club to 16.31 per cent. The move was seen as a response to Irish horse racing tycoons John Magnier and JP McManus, who less than 24 hours earlier upped their holding to 28.89 per cent. Glazer, 75, who owns 2003 Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers and is worth an estimated £1bn, has been steadily increasing his stake since October. He is some way short of the 29.9 per cent needed for a formal takeover bid, but could demand a seat on the plc board.

Fergie can stay for life
Sir Alex Ferguson will be offered a job for life at Manchester United - if Malcolm Glazer wins the battle for control of the club. Fergie has been privately briefed over expected takeover moves by the American sports entrepreneur and his family. And he has been told he can " stay at the club for the next 10 years" if Glazer senior wins the battle for control and installs his son Joel as his key director.
