Real Betis star Joaquin has slammed fresh reports linking him with Manchester United and insists he has not spoken to the English media about a possible switch to the Premiership champions.
The Spanish international, who has long been mooted as a United target, was quoted as saying in the News of the World that he dreamed of supplying the ammunition for Ruud van Nistelrooy at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old penned a fresh deal at Betis in October tying him to the Seville-based outfit until 2010 - although it is an initial five-year contract running until 2008 - making him the best-paid player in the club´s history.

However, that has not stopped the United rumours persisting, while within Spain, Real Madrid continue to be regarded as his long-term destination.

Joaquin believes, though, that the latest round of speculation concerning a transfer to United has been fuelled by Jose Antonio Reyes´ recent switch from Sevilla to Arsenal.

" These rumours are down to the Reyes effect. Us Seville-born players are very popular in England," joked the right-sided midfielder.

" I have an extended contract until at least 2008 and it all depends completely on my club.

" At the moment I am only thinking about doing my best for Betis and going with Spain to Euro 2004 in Portugal.

" I have had no offer from United and nobody from the club has spoken to me.

" This has already come out several months ago."

Despite the player´s denial there seems little doubt that United have been monitoring the highly-rated Spaniard, and he would be the ideal replacement for David Beckham who The Red Devils have struggled to replace since his summer switch to Real Madrid.

L’attaquant hollandais de Manchester United ( 27 ans), Ruud van Nistelrooy a mis fin aux rumeurs l’envoyant en Italie ou encore au Real Madrid. Dans une interview au Corriere della Sera, il a affiché sa volonté de rester à MU : " je viens juste de renouveler mon contrat avec Manchester jusqu’en 2008 et je n’ai pas l’intention de bouger." Dans cet entretien, le buteur ( 17 réalisations en Premier League cette saison), se projette également au terme de ce contrat : " Je ne sais pas si un club serait disposé à m’attendre. A 32 ans, probablement personne ne voudra de moi en Italie." Finalement, " RvN" affiche tout de même sa préférence parmi les clubs transalpins : " si je devais indiquer ma préférence, je dirais Milan, pour Marco van Basten, mon idole, et pour le grand lien avec les Pays-Bas." Alors que certaines rumeurs donnait le milieu espagnol du Betis Séville Joaquin ( 22 ans) partant pour Manchester United, le joueur a démenti. Dans une interview à Planetfootball, l´Espagnol considère que " ces rumeurs sont dûes à l´effet Reyes." Il vient de son côté de s´engager jusqu´en 2008 avec son club, devenant le joueur le mieux payé de l´effectif, accord dont il se réjouit : " J´ai un contrat étendu au moins jusqu´en 2008 ( ...) pour le moment je pense seulement à faire de mon mieux pour le Betis et à aller à l´Euro 2004 au Portugal avec l´Espagne." D´autre part,le joueur indique qu´il " n´a reçu aucune offre de United" et que " personne au club ne ( lui) en a parlé." Pourtant, la presse anglaise n´en démord pas et voit en lui un remplaçant de choix à David Beckham, parti l´été dernier au Real Madrid. ( Par Yves Leroy).

Manchester United´s interest in signing PSV´s highly promising Dutch teenager Arjen Robben looks to have fallen through.

Early in January Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson highlighted his interest in the player, saying: " We are interested in him. Nothing´s been finalised but we are hoping to do business with PSV."

Robben visited United´s Carrington training centre during January and it was thought a deal for the £5m-rated Dutchman would be completed in the summer. But, as the player´s father and agent points out, the transfer has stalled.

" At the moment, both clubs didn´t work it out," Hans Robben told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. " He even offered to cut a part of his wage. He really wanted to go to United."

In an interview with the Telegraaf, however, the player´s father says Robben is not too downbeat.

" Arjen wants to play at the highest level, that´s only natural. This was a splendid opportunity but he stills feels he can develop as a player at PSV. He can yet make that step up," he said.

Manchester United’s 4-3 thriller against Everton on Saturday certainly raised a few issues, not least the performance of the Reds’ back four.

Judging by recent displays, there is certainly room for improvement. I feel that improvement will come, and when it does we have fantastic, fluid, attacking football to look forward to.

In the first half at Goodison Manchester United played some brilliant, flowing football; it was wonderful to watch at times. We could have had twice as many goals by half time. However, in the second half the opposite happened. David Moyes brought on Wayne Rooney and Tomasz Radzinski at the interval, and that pairing worked very effectively off Duncan Ferguson, who, on his day, is capable of ruffling the composure of the world’s best defenders. Ferguson pushes and shoves and makes life difficult for defenders and we struggled to deal with it. The second half performance highlighted the cracks that can appear defensively when you’re not on top form, and United’s defence certainly wasn’t on top form.

There has been an air of uncertainty about the back four in recent weeks. We’ve not been dealing with crosses correctly. But, you have to remember, Gary Neville has been out for a while, John O’Shea’s timing has been a bit off recently and as we know Rio Ferdinand is suspended. Wes Brown has also taken a bit of stick from recently. He will take time to settle back into the team, especially with the other defenders perhaps not operating to their full ability. We have no choice other than to be patient in getting that chemistry right at the back with Rio Ferdinand out of the equation until next season. We’ve just got to get that determination back - that bit of sharpness. The manager, I am sure, will be focusing on that during training.

Keane’s Place Is In Midfield
I don’t like this talk of Roy Keane going back into defence, I would like to see that because he is far too important in that midfield role – and also, the problems we are experiencing in defence are ones that I feel we can put right. I don’t think it’s panic stations by any means, we just need to cut out the mistakes. We can consider this game a warning. But the pleasing thing for me is that we can take that warning and learn from it, benefit from it for the rest of the season and we still picked up the three points.

We can’t just blame the defence though. Everybody has a job to do and that includes Ruud van Nistelrooy and Louis Saha. Like Roy Keane has said in the past, we are a team when we are attack, and we are a team when we defend. We need to put that philosophy into practice. I must say, though, it made for a cracking game.

Ben justement ils disent que pour l´instant il y a pas de négociation, que Robben était prêt à réduire sonsalaire, mais pas de nouvelles de MU depuis le mercato...C´est au point mort apparemment ^^

robben je le voit comme un remplacant potentiel de Giggsy . ...

Perso, je rêverais de Van der Vaart, Robben et Joaquin, mais c´est clair qu´on peut pas tripler les postes et mettre de tels joueurs sur le banc ^^
