" Swansea Snap Up Tate
United defender Alan Tate has completed his move to Third Division side Swansea City, and says Sir Alex Ferguson gave him the perfect leaving present.
" Sir Alex told me that I had the attitude, temperament and ability to eventually make it to the Premier League," Tate told The Western Mail. " He is the biggest man in British football at this moment so for him to say that to me is a real boost."
Tate, 22, signed professional at Old Trafford in July of 2000, and following some promising appearances in United´s reserves, Alan had two successful spells with Swansea on loan.
Tate is a talented young defender, but found it difficult to break into a United first-team with an abundance of young defenders.

" He [Ferguson] also said I was unfortunate to be at United during this time," added Tate. " There wasn´t really a chance of me breaking into the first team because the average age of the squad is so young.
" But he said there was no reason why I couldn´t make it back into the Premiership in the future."
Tate looks fondly upon his time at United. " I am certainly not bitter about what happened at United.
" It´s the best place for any youngster to start out in football. I was involved in Champions League and Premiership squads. It was a great experience.
" I really enjoy playing for Swansea and I know I´ve got the chance of playing regular first-team football," said Tate.
Meanwhile young midfielder Danny Byrne has been released by the club. Byrne, a 19-year-old midfielder, was a third year scholar with United.
