" Man Utd youngster in crash"

Manchester United´s reserve game against Birmingham has been postponed after a youth player was involved in a car accident.
The player, who has not been named, was injured in the accident outside the club´s Carrington Lane training base early on Wednesday afternoon.

He was taken to Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester with serious injuries, police said.

The reserve-team match had been due to take place on Wednesday.

A medical team was called out to treat a male with multiple injuries, who was trapped in a car for more than an hour.

He was flown by air ambulance to Wythenshawe Hospital where he´s in a critical condition.

A 25 year-old woman has been taken to Trafford General Hospital suffering from back, neck and lower injuries.

The accident comes five months after the death of United´s Jimmy Davis in a car accident.

The 21-year-old United striker, on loan to First Division Watford, died on the M40 last August.

=>On ne sait pas qui sait mais il est dans un état critique aux dernières nouvelles :/

Saha is all your for £18m
Fulham boss Chris Coleman last night slapped an £18m price tag on Louis Saha - and insisted he will not be allowed to quit the club until the summer. Chelsea launched a last minute attempt to hijack Manchester United´s bid to sign Saha and Coleman is finally ready admit defeat in the battle to keep hold of the wantaway striker.
John Cross, Daily Mirror

Chelsea in Saha swoop
Chelsea want to land a double blow to Manchester United by snatching two star signings from under the champions´ noses. The Londoners last night moved for Fulham striker Louis Saha, and also plan to snatch Dutch teenager Arjen Robben from PSV Eindhoven in the summer.

Louis Saha has warned Fulham that, unless he is allowed to join Manchester United immediately, he will eventually walk away for nothing.

The 25-year-old, who has scored 15 times for Fulham this season, has again expressed his ´anger´ at the Cottagers´ refusal to let him join United, who have already had two bids for the Frenchman rejected.

Although the Old Trafford outfit distanced themselves from reports that a deal had been struck for Saha, manager Sir Alex Ferguson is still hoping to sign the former Metz forward before the January transfer window closes.

An increasingly acrimonious saga has seen Fulham owner Mohamed Al Fayed and manager Chris Coleman repeatedly insist Saha is going nowhere now, but could leave in the summer.

This olive branch has done nothing to appease a furious Saha, who has delivered another withering assault on Fulham´s backroom staff and threatened to make sure they receive nothing for him at all if they do not allow him to go now.

" The club say they would rather sell me in six months´ time but I´m fed up now," Saha told Le Parisien.

" Either I leave now or I´m staying at Fulham until the end of my contract which finishes in 2006.

" If Fulham love me that much, they´re going to have to cope with me until the end and then I´ll leave them for zero euros."

While Saha has previously suggested he has been misquoted in French newspapers, the current situation is becoming untenable.

Rather like Paul Ince at West Ham in 1989, Saha has made it almost impossible to play for his current club and even with Al Fayed´s fortune, there can be no economic sense in keeping a player who has demanded to leave in such a forceful manner.

" Fulham are not honest," he added. " The club´s managers keep changing their opinion.

" One day they say yes to a transfer, and the next day they say no. They think I´m an object.

" I however feel that the road which leads to Old Trafford is about to open."

It has been claimed in some quarters that the London outfit would accept a bid of £18m for the player but United have absolutely no intention of going anywhere near that figure.

They also believe rumours linking Saha with a move to Chelsea have been instigated in an effort to push the price up but, confident in the player´s willingness to join them, will refuse to get involved in an auction.

Time is on United´s side as Saha would not be available for a first-team game until 31 January because he is cup-tied.

They feel that Fulham will eventually buckle because the Cottagers will need time to draft in a replacement.

In the meantime, it seems Saha will maintain his offensive until his wish is granted for he has no wish to miss out on a move to United the way Ronaldinho did during the summer.

" I don´t want all this to finish the way it did for Ronaldinho," he said.

" I still believe the transfer can go through. Bluffing people is good but there is no need to do too much.

" I know that Manchester don´t want to fall out with Fulham but Fulham´s managers should also remember they are businessmen.

" When a big amount is put on the table, they should stop showing off, otherwise they end up with an angry and frustrated player."

=>"Man Utd mount hunt for Saha"

By John May

Like the Canadian Mounties, Sir Alex Ferguson always gets his man. But as he continues his chase of Fulham striker Louis Saha, one question will not go away. Is he hunting the right man?

Saha´s fear that Fulham´s rebuff of United´s initial offer would cause them to look elsewhere have proved unfounded.

Ferguson seems determined to land Saha, but why?

A tidy sum of £8m will buy an awful lot of striker in the current depressed football market.

The most obvious target would have been Jermain Defoe.

WHO ELSE FOR £8M?
Jermain Defoe ( W Ham)
Alan Smith ( Leeds)
James Beattie ( Soton)
Roy Makaay ( B Munich)
Sidney Govou ( Lyons)
Samuel Eto´o ( Mallorca)
Pauleta ( PSG)

Defoe has a sound goalscoring record, and West Ham´s relegation and financial plight would surely have tempted them.

Perhaps other Premiership strikers might have floated Fergie´s boat more than Saha.

For £8m, Fergie could well have got Leeds pair Alan Smith and Mark Viduka in a buy one, get one free deal, while Southampton chairman Rupert Lowe would find cold, hard cash difficult to turn down for James Beattie.

Had Fergie wanted to look abroad, his buying power could have bought him top-shelf quality.

Italian and Spanish clubs are more able to hold on to their players. But while a Trezeguet, Totti or Vieri ight have been out of mid-season price range, Ferguson could well have landed a Mista, Valeron or Eto´o.

If he wanted a proven goalscorer, he could have wound PSV Eindhoven up even more by trying to prise away Mateja Kezman.

Sidney Govou is above Saha in the French pecking order

Bayern Munich are not that flush that they could turn down £8m for Roy Makaay, while French clubs fall over at the sight of a well-padded wallet.

PSG´s Portuguese striker Pauleta has as good a scoring record as any on the continent, and Ivory Coast international Didier Drogba has carved a big reputation for himself with Marseille this season.

Lyon´s Sidney Govou and Djibril Cisse, of Auxerre, are way ahead of Saha in the pecking order for the French national team.

While Saha has been hot this season, at other times he has been lukewarm.

After Jean Tigana made Saha his first Fulham signing, the striker´s 27 League goals fired the Cottagers into the Premiership.

During their first season back in the top flight, Saha only managed seven goals in 28 appearances.

SAHA´S CAREER
1995: With Henry and Anelka at French National Academy
1998:Joins Metz
Jan 1999:Joins Newcastle on five-month loan
June 2000: Joins Fulham for £2.1m
2000-01 season: Scores 27 goals in Div One

A move to United would propel Saha into the sort of stellar existence he dreamed of when he won a place at the French national academy at Clairefontaine.

There, his closest friends were two players whose families also came from the French Antilles, and with whom he spoke Creole, Thierry Henry and Nicholas Anelka.

Back then Saha was rated the most promising of the three, with Metz president Patrick Razurel claiming: " In France, all the technicians said he was one of the best players seen in the last 10 years."

While Henry and Anelka went off to tread glamourous paths with Monaco and Arsenal, and PSG, Arsenal and Real Madrid, Saha ploughed a provincial furrow with Metz.

Newcastle took Saha on loan, and then Magpies boss Ruud Gullitt was keen to push through a £2m permanent deal.

Saha, though, returned to France, never to return to Tyneside for reasons still shrouded in a Geordie mist, and Gullitt ´s departure ensured Newcastle´s interest ended.

So what does Ferguson see in Saha?

Perhaps he sees a player similar in style to Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is happy leading the line alone.

There may be better players around than Saha, but it is more important for United that a player can seamlessly slot into their team plan.

But perhaps significantly, Saha´s first Premiership game saw him score twice in Fulham´s 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford.

Ferguson would have made a mental note that day.
