C.Ronaldo remplace Kleberson et Scholes rate de peu le triplé. Ou plutôt Seaman lui enlève ^^

Title rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all chasing the signature of Croatian midfielder Jerko Leko who plays for Dynamo Kiev ( Daily Star).

Manchester United believe Rio Ferdinand will not face a ban for missing a drugs test - and even if the defender is suspended they will continue to pay his full wages even though he will not be on the pitch ( Sunday Mirror).

Chiefs at Old Trafford are prepared to accept a three-month ban but would fight on if a stronger sentence is delivered ( The Mail on Sunday).

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson has already supplied a character reference to Ferdinand´s legal team and would be prepared to attend the hearing on the defender´s behalf if asked ( The People).

Manchester United want to increase Old Trafford´s capacity to 75,000 by adding a double tier of seats to the South Stand ( The People).

Ferdinand to dodge test ban
Manchester United are confident England defender Rio Ferdinand will walk away with a hefty fine and a slap on the wrist for missing a drugs test. United are adamant they can prove that the FA´s testing procedure is flawed and there are no specific guidelines as to the period of time that a test must be undertaken.

Ruud wants to be best in United history
Ruud van Nistelrooy wants to rewrite the record books at Old Trafford and ensure when he finally hangs his boots up that he goes down as the greatest goalscorer to pull on the famous red shirt. He said: " I have the greatest respect for players like Denis Law, Duncan Edwards and Bobby Charlton and what they achieved here. But I´m determined to make my mark here and score the goals that people remember me by."

Kleb: My belief is strong
Kleberson says forcing his way into Brazil´s World Cup winning side gave him the belief he needs to secure a first-team role at Manchester United. Kleberson said: " I´m delighted things are finally going right for me, but I´ve always had faith. I was sure the same qualities that made me a regular for Brazil would serve me well at United. It´s not everybody who gets to play for Brazil."
Luke Gosset, Sunday Mirror

And it seems that nobody is safe from Chelski´s overtures...

Chelsea´s bid for Henry
Roman Abramovich last week offered Arsenal £40million for Thierry Henry. The Chelsea owner´s amazing bid was turned down by Arsenal but they are bracing themselves for a higher offer. David Dein revealed: " Roman Abramovich came to Highbury and presented us with a formal offer for him."

Story by Editor 14 December 2003

" He´s just shy that´s all"

From The Sunday Times:

Not all of the Manchester United players enjoyed the anonymity they experienced in the United States during the club’s summer tour. One England international was so unnerved that he took to wearing a club tracksuit by way of identifying himself when he went out in public.

But most of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad loved the lack of fuss, and one player felt he had gone to heaven. Coming back through Manhattan after training one afternoon, he asked for the team bus to be stopped and he got off, even though the team hotel was several blocks away.

Paul Scholes just wanted to savour walking alone through the streets of a city without being approached by a single passer-by. At the very moment Scholes headed in Manchester United’s third, and his own second, goal at Old Trafford yesterday, you just knew the despair of Manchester City fans was matched only by that of staff at Sky Sports. Man of the match, and, crucially, the post-match player interview, would have to go to Scholes. It was never going to make required viewing, and it did not. " I’m just happy to be back and scoring" and " It’s nice to score goals against City" was the gist of it.

The highlight was Scholes’s revelation that being out for two months while recovering from a hernia operation ( his third) had been " frustrating".

The interviewer tried to finish on a high by saying: " Paul, you can go out with your head held high tonight" as he handed Scholes the magnum of champagne. Something about Scholes’s expression confirmed that going out, head held high or otherwise, and actually drinking the champagne were about bottom on his list of things to do.
