Got a ban? Get a Van!
Alex Ferguson is lining up a £10million swoop for Belgian giant Daniel Van Buyten — if Rio Ferdinand cops an FA ban. And Marseille defender Van Buyten, 25, dreams of playing at Old Trafford. He said: “United are a fantastic club. Any player would want to turn out for them.” England star Ferdinand, 24, could be suspended for up to TWO YEARS if an FA probe finds him guilty of deliberately failing to attend a routine drugs test at United’s training ground last month. Losing his star centre-back would be a massive blow for United boss Fergie. But he is ready to act during the January transfer window by grabbing the 6ft 5in Belgian international. Van Buyten added: “United talked with Marseille about signing me last season but it was decided I’d stay in France another year and play in the Champions League. I want to progress, though — and play for one of the biggest clubs in the world. I certainly think that my style of play and my physique are well-suited for English football.”
