Roberto Carlos has escaped with a provisional one-match ban
Roberto Carlos is clear to play in Real Madrid´s Champions League showdown with Manchester United after escaping with a one-match international ban for shoulder-charging a referee.
The ban is a provisional one, pending a full hearing by Fifa´s Control and Disciplinary Committee who could increase it.
But any ban will only apply to international matches for Brazil, and not for Real Madrid.
Carlos was dismissed in the 81st minute of Brazil´s 2-1 defeat in Porto after jostling Israeli referee Alon Yefet after he had awarded a free-kick.
Although the dismissal was Carlos´ first in a Brazilian shirt, the nature of the offence prompted the chairman of Fifa´s disciplinary committee to act ahead of any formal hearing.

A Fifa spokesman said: "Any attack on a referee is to be regarded as a serious matter.
"In emergencies, the disciplinary committee can pronounce a provisional sanction in cases which it is likely that an offence was committed."
Carlos has until midnight on Wednesday to appeal against the ban.
