J´aime bien Paul Scholes!
Rio Ferdinand and Nicky Butt are both likely to join up with the England squad later this week as Sven Goran Eriksson´s side prepare to take on Macedonia and Liechtenstein.
Paul Scholes has already been ruled out of international duty with a hernia injury. But Rio and Nicky´s squad places had also been called into doubt due to the fact that the pair have both spent time on the sidelines recently.
Ferdinand has missed United´s last two games - against Wolves and Southampton - while Butt made his comeback from an ankle injury picked up in England´s friendly win over Croatia by coming on as a substitute in United´s 1-0 defeat at Southampton.
However, both are expected to join the Neville brothers in the squad for the crucial Euro 2004 qualifiers on Saturday against Macedonia and next Wednesday against Liechtenstein at Old Trafford.
An FA spokesman has confirmed correspondence between United and England medical staff, and also between Sven Goran Eriksson and Sir Alex Ferguson.
The spokesman said: " There have been conversations between the Manchester United medical staff and those of the Football Association in recent days, as well as between Sven and Sir Alex Ferguson.
" Although they were primarily about Paul Scholes, the fitness of Rio Ferdinand and Nicky Butt will also have been mentioned."

=>If Beckham intended to use his autobiography to set the record straight about how he was forced out of Old Trafford by Sir Alex Ferguson then - from what I read yesterday - he fails miserably.
In fact after reading those opening extracts, I can understand better than ever why Ferguson believed he had no choice but to show the exit door to a player he could no longer control.
A player who appeared to believe that had become more important than the club that paid his huge salary.
In his autobiography, Beckham recalls the occasion when Ferguson tells him that he will be on the subs bench for a Champions League match against Real Madrid at Old Trafford.
Beckham admits that he turned around and walked out of the changing-room without even giving Fergie a chance to explain his decision.
Personal view
In Beckham´s mind he was left out of the starting eleven against Real for personal reasons other than football reasons.
Ferguson has been accused of all sorts of things during his years at Old Trafford.
But letting personal feelings influence his team selection, particulary for a match as important as the one against Real Madrid? Sorry, I´m not buying that one.
Fergie would play Jack the Ripper if he thought it would get him three points.
Beckham also recalls the day of United´s Worthington Cup-tie against Chelsea, when the United players had been told to report at 1pm.
It was also the day of his son Brooklyn´s first Nativity play at school.
Beckham asked Ferguson if he could report later than the other players so he could watch Brooklyn, but was told in no uncertain terms to report at the same time as the other players. Understandably, Beckham was upset to miss out on his son´s big day. But, in making another appeal for sympathy in his autobiography, he misses the point again.
Any manager who affords special treatment to one individual is asking for big trouble.
Well-paid
Manchester United were paying Beckham a huge salary. To ask him to report for a match at the same time as the rest of his team-mates does not, to me, smack of a vendetta being waged by Ferguson against Beckham.
It is a way of reminding him that his club comes first and personal requirements second.
You might think those two incidents I have picked out from the extracts printed yesterday are relatively trivial. And indeed they are.
But to me they paint a picture of a player who felt that his celebrity status entitled him to be treated differently to the other " mere mortals" in Ferguson´s team.
They accepted their manager´s decisions without complaint and recognised that, occasionally, their club commitments would impinge on their family life.
Yes, it is clear from Beckham´s autobiography that Ferguson treated him harshly during his final few months at Old Trafford.
But there is no nice way for a manager to tell a player that he is surplus to requirements.
And Fergie certainly made sure that Beckham wasn´t going to say " no" when Real Madrid came-a-knocking.
But the feeling I got from reading Beckham´s side of the story in that tabloid yesterday was that he was the author of his own downfall at Old Trafford.
He says he had grown up and Ferguson didn´t like what he had become. At least he got that bit right.
Lock horns with Fergie, question his authority and there will only be one winner. And it won´t be the player.
Particularly if that player wears the captain´s armband when playing for his country and is surrounded by a permanent media circus.
