Defoe going nowhere - Brooking
Caretaker manager Trevor Brooking has told Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to forget about signing West Ham striker Jermain Defoe.
Defoe gave Brooking a perfect return to the hotseat on Tuesday following his spell as temporary boss last season in Glenn Roeder´s absence due to a brain tumour. The highly-rated striker netted a spectacular matchwinner just after the half-hour against Bradford, watched by the club´s biggest crowd of the season at 30,370.
Brooking, who received a good luck message from Roeder prior to the game, agreed that Defoe´s 32nd-minute winner, a solo effort from the edge of the box, was special.
But he insisted the England Under-21 striker will not be joining the Premiership champions - or anyone else.
He said: " Jermain scored a goal no other player, First Division or Premiership, would have scored.
" He has every right to be frustrated after seeing his mates sold in the summer, but his attitude has been excellent. He´s not going anywhere."
