"Damien Duff is set to disappoint Liverpool by moving to Manchester United this summer. The 24-year-old Blackburn Rovers winger is wanted by both clubs but Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have won the battle and Duff is expected to leave Ewood Park for a fee as high as £10m at the end of the season."
The Guardian goes all tabloid
"He is unbelievably quick and shoots from everywhere. If he played alongside a big centre forward he is very good feeding off that type of player because he is so incredibly fast. You really have to pinch yourself to believe how quick he is. He´ll have a crack at goal from around 30-40 yards. He is very ambitious with his shooting and has been successful with it. He´s a good player. Nihat would suit United´s style. If United buy someone they would normally have wanted to see a couple of consistent seasons behind the player. He´d certainly be one they should be watching though."

=>"Rooney was a revelation but Sven´s real hero was Nicky Butt"
THE moment I saw him play I knew. Here was a player who should never again be left out of the England team. Who is absolutely vital to our success under Sven Goran Eriksson. Who could yet be the key to our lifting the trophy at Euro 2004. No, not Wayne Rooney. NICKY BUTT. That´s right, Nicky Butt. The most unsung, unfancied, unpretentious of England´s winners on Wednesday night. The same player that quite probably won´t make Manchester United´s team to face Real Madrid this week. The same guy that rated barely a mention the following day as the nation lost its heart to a boy of 17.

"Ban him"
Sir Alex Ferguson last night demanded Roberto Carlos be banned from world football — after an alleged attack on a referee. Carlos was sent off in last week´s bad-tempered friendly with Portugal in Porto after appearing to shoulder barge the referee in protest at a decision. The incident was clearly caught by TV cameras yet Fergie claims UEFA and FIFA have FAILED to act because they are SCARED of Real Madrid and their president Florentino Perez. Fergie said: "They came out with stuff about wanting to sign David Beckham but we expected that. We are not surprised — especially as they have their own problems. "Rather than worry about carrying out personal attacks on Manchester United players they have their own issue with Roberto Carlos to solve. I would think they will be trembling in their shoes because if UEFA and FIFA do their job properly Roberto Carlos has to be banned. Look at the two Portuguese players — Joao Pinto and Abel Xavier. Pinto got four months for punching a referee in the stomach while Xavier was banned for nine months for allegedly attacking a linesman.

"Fergie in Cup draw fix claim"
Sir Alex Ferguson has sparked a Champions League storm by claiming the draw for the quarter-finals was rigged. Manchester United face European champions Real Madrid in the last eight, with the first leg taking place at the Bernabeu Stadium on Tuesday. But Fergie is furious that the the three Spanish clubs left in the competition - Real, Barcelona and Valencia - were kept apart and that the Italian trio of Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan also avoided each other. The United manager feels that it was more than just the luck of the draw. And he has accused UEFA of having an hidden agenda designed to keep United from progressing to the final because it will take place at Old Trafford in May. In an astonishing attack, Ferguson could barely conceal his conspiracy theories as he contemplated pitting his team against the likes of Ronaldo, Raul, Zinedine Zidane and Luis Figo. He said: "It was a nice draw for the Spanish and Italians - I think they picked it themselves. The three Italian teams have avoided each other and so have the three Spanish teams. How do you think that worked out? I can tell you - UEFA don´t want us in the final, that´s for sure. I don´t know why they have given the final to Old Trafford because they don´t want us to get there. That´s the feeling I have."

"Sir Alex: They´re out to get us"
Sr Alex Ferguson has challenged his Manchester United players to overcome the machinations of FIFA, UEFA and Real Madrid to become kings of Europe. The United manager spared nobody as he launched a blistering triple broadside ahead of Tuesday night´s Champions League quarter-final trip to Madrid. First Ferguson blasted FIFA for failing to ban Real defender Roberto Carlos for his assault on referee Alon Yefet as Brazil were beaten in Portugal last week. UEFA were next in line, the Scot accusing them of rigging the last-eight draw in a bid to prevent United reaching the Old Trafford final. And Fergie finally turned on Madrid to ridicule the spend, spend, spend policy that has enabled the Spaniards to stockpile the world´s best players. The Reds´ boss is adamant that his team should not be facing free-kick specialist Carlos in the first-leg tie following his red-card shame in Lisbon.

"United produce Power play"
It started with a mischievous Mancunian wind-up and the laughter just never stopped at Old Trafford. Liverpool may have won on their last two visits to Old Trafford, as well as beating them in last month´s Worthington Cup Final. But they were set up to be the fall guys from the moment infamous local prankster Karl Power managed to smuggle himself, and around half-a-dozen of his pals, onto the pitch a few minutes before kick-off. Power´s notoriety emerged when he somehow managed to sneak himself onto a United team picture before a Champions League game in Bayern Munich´s Olympic Stadium a few years ago. Other pranks have seen him walk out to the wicket with bat in hand during an England Test match and a Centre Court rally with a sidekick at Wimbledon. But, as a United nut, yesterday was his Tour De Force as he, and his mates, re-enacted Diego Forlan´s opening goal in United´s 2-1 victory at Anfield earlier in the season - complete with Jerzy Dudek´s fumble - before dashing in front of Liverpool´s visiting fans to celebrate. Power and his cronies were arrested immediately - and missed their heroes make real mugs out of the Merseysiders.

"Ferguson eyes Real match" ( source=BBC)
Liverpool were upset by the dismissal of Hyypia
Sir Alex Ferguson said Manchester United´s comfortable 4-0 win over Liverpool allowed them to preserve their energy for Tuesday´s match with Real Madrid.
United play Madrid in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.
And Ferguson was delighted with the comfortable way in which his team dismantled Liverpool after defender Sami Hyypia was dismissed in the fourth minute.
"I think we did very well today, particularly in the second half when we moved the ball quickly," said Ferguson.
Match report: Man Utd 4-0 Liverpool
"We played without running most of the time in the second half. It saved our energy - and that may help us on Tuesday evening.
Hyypia´s dismissal also resulted in the first of United´s two penalties, both of which Ruud van Nistelrooy converted.
You always want to kill the game off and I think the second goal did
Sir Alex Ferguson
But United failed to build upon their advantage before half-time.
"In the last 10 minutes of the first half we were a bit scrappy and took our foot off the pedal - and that´s not the way to play against Liverpool," said the United boss.
"That was an uncomfortable part of the game for us but we survived it and in the second half I thought we were comfortable.
"You always want to kill the game off and I think the second goal did."
Van Nistelrooy was also in an excellent mood after the final whistle and said the result avenged their Worthington Cup defeat.
"We can forget a bit about the Worthington Cup defeat by Liverpool now," said the Dutch striker.
"This is a massive win for us. An unbelievable result for us. We go to Madrid with a good feeling."
Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier was left to lament Hyypia´s red card, which had a massive effect on the game.
"You know when you play here it´s going to be difficult and losing your captain and centre-back after four minutes makes it harder," said the Liverpool boss.
"Playing 10 against 11 comes on the back of two international games for the players.
"But I´m pleased with the effort - we stayed in the game for an hour before the second penalty affected us."

"Wenger confident on title chances"
Ljungberg scored his first goal since November
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted the destiny of the Premiership title was still in his side´s hands after the 1-1 draw at Aston Villa.
The Gunners now only lead Manchester United, who beat Liverpool 4-0 on Saturday, on goal difference with the two sides due to meet at Highbury on 16 April.
Arsenal had to settle for a point after Kolo Toure´s own goal cancelled out a 56th-minute goal from Freddie Ljungberg.
Wenger said: "The title is still in our hands. I am convinced of that. There is a long way to go, six games, and a lot will happen.
"But we will freshen our legs a bit this week and then we´ve got the FA Cup semi-final and then the Manchester United game.
"We will be up for it, have no worries about that. I don´t think the momentum is especially with United after their win today against Liverpool and in football it all changes very quickly.
"It was a very difficult game because Villa were very cautious.
"They never came out and it was very difficult to find an opening.
"I expected Villa to defend well but when I saw the team sheet I knew they would only defend.
"Having got in front it was important for us not to make a mistake at the back and unfortunately we made one."
Villa manager Graham Taylor defended his tactics - he played five in midfield until his side went behind - as they collected another point in their bid to guarantee Premiership survival.
He said: "With the position we are in, it was very important for us to be as tight as we could be.
"We were playing the best side in this country on the counter-attack and one of the best sides in Europe.
"If you lost the ball on the edge of your opponents´ penalty area, count up to five and it is in the back of your net.
"You have to do something to try and combat that. If you leave yourself open to them, you are courting disaster. It was an important point for us."

=>ANYONE KNOW WHAT PHIL CHISNALL IS MOST FAMOUS FOR?
Story by Editor 6 April 2003
Could this young lad do the reverse almost 40 years on?
Chisnall as more senior Reds will know is the last man to move directly from United to Liverlost or vice versa.
Anyway this gem from Planet football:
Manchester United are interested in signing Liverpool starlet Chris Sanner, but the youngster looks set for a move to the Nationwide League.
The 16-year-old goalkeeper is highly rated at Anfield and has been offered terms to stay, however the Welsh youth international has decided to move on.
However, The Reds would be loathed to lose one of the young stars to their arch-rivals and the player´s agent Wayne Elsey thinks a move to Old Trafford looks unlikely.
"United really like him and are keen, but Liverpool would not be keen and are likely to ask for a lot of compensation," Elsey told planetfootball.com.
"He is more likely to go elsewhere and both Stoke and Leicester have spoken to Liverpool about him.
"He is a great lad, who has enormous ability and I think he will get a good deal."

Real general director Jorge Valdano has ruled his club out of any move for Beckham and told The Sun that may give Italians Inter Milan a chance to move for the midfielder.
"I don´t know if Inter really want Beckham," he said. "As far as we are concerned, Inter have the green light for Beckham because we are not going to enter any auction."

United to sign Duff, Ronaldinho, Dindane, Lukue but not Vierra
A quote from Souness: "We have had no offers for Damien and we don´t want any offers for him, but if someone came in and offered us ridiculous money then we´d have to be realistic about it.
"On top of that, if the boy wanted to go it would be very difficult to hold onto him.
"At the end of last season there were people sniffing around him, namely Manchester United and Liverpool, and I think each of them was worried about who was going to take him at the time.
"But we made it very plain that they´d have to pay a lot of money for him and nothing has changed since."

Fergie tells his players to concentrate on theri own games and not worry about Figo, Carlos, Zidane or Ronaldo
"This will be our fourth meeting against them in European football and we are certainly not short in our knowledge of their players, they are all stars.
"They have won the trophy nine times and are devoted to it. Last year they sacrificed the Spanish league to make sure they won the European Cup.
"We can never do that. We are entrenched in the tribal warfare of this country where we always have to beat Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City or whoever. But Tuesday can be our day.
"We have to focus on our own team more than ever. If we start saying watch Figo, watch Ronaldo, watch Zidane, watch Raul, you would end up with twisted blood.
"I am not going to allow that. We must concentrate on ourselves and if the concentration is right and the focus is right we have a real chance, believe me.
"Real are better now than they were two years ago because they have collected the best players. Ronaldo can win a game, Zidane, Figo, Raul, they can all turn games and that is why we have to concentrate.
"But we have matured as a team, we have learned the hard way and those games against Real Madrid three years ago. Last season we got the battle going too late when we couldn´t afford a mistake and we couldn´t do it."

=>04/01/2003. Manchester United and Newcastle are among a host of top European clubs are chasing Sporting Lisbon´s Ricardo Quaresma, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The reports claims Inter Milan and Juventus are both also interested in the £10m rated U-21 international, who recently produced a classy performance against England´s youngsters.
Quaresma has long been linked with Manchester United, whose assistant manager, Carlos Queiroz, used to coach Sporting Lisbon, while United have established links with the Portuguese club.
Newcastle´s Bobby Robson was at Friday´s U-21 match and he too has links with the club, as he coached them during the 1990´s, while he also signed Hugo Viana from them last summer.
=>derniere rumeur en date.........
04/04/2003. A source close to SoccerAge.com can exclusively reveal( LOL) that an Andriy Shevchenko-Ryan Giggs swap could take place in the summer.
Shevchenko apparently wants guarantees of a first-team place from Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti who is unwilling to give such assurances.
The Ukrainian appeals to Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson who has been told that he would have to sell before buying anyone this summer ( due to the size of the squad). Therefore an offer of Ryan Giggs plus cash could be in the reckoning.
The Welshman has always said how happy he is at the club, but if he were no longer wanted things could quickly change.
