Sir Alex Ferguson said Manchester United´s comfortable 4-0 win over Liverpool allowed them to preserve their energy for Tuesday´s match with Real Madrid.
United play Madrid in the first-leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday.

And Ferguson was delighted with the comfortable way in which his team dismantled Liverpool after defender Sami Hyypia was dismissed in the fourth minute.

"I think we did very well today, particularly in the second half when we moved the ball quickly," said Ferguson.

"We played without running most of the time in the second half. It saved our energy - and that may help us on Tuesday evening.

Hyypia´s dismissal also resulted in the first of United´s two penalties, both of which Ruud van Nistelrooy converted.

"Playing 10 against 11 comes on the back of two international games for the players.

"But I´m pleased with the effort - we stayed in the game for an hour before the second penalty affected us."

Manchester United are interested in signing Liverpool starlet Chris Sanner, but the youngster looks set for a move to the Nationwide League.

The 16-year-old goalkeeper is highly rated at Anfield and has been offered terms to stay, however the Welsh youth international has decided to move on.

However, The Reds would be loathed to lose one of the young stars to their arch-rivals and the player´s agent Wayne Elsey thinks a move to Old Trafford looks unlikely.

"United really like him and are keen, but Liverpool would not be keen and are likely to ask for a lot of compensation," Elsey told planetfootball.com.

"He is more likely to go elsewhere and both Stoke and Leicester have spoken to Liverpool about him.

"He is a great lad, who has enormous ability and I think he will get a good deal."

United to sign Duff, Ronaldinho, Dindane, Lukue but not Vierra

• Blackburn have apparently made it clear that they will sell Damien Duff this summer if their asking price of £15m is met. The Times says that Liverpool and Manchester United have been given the ‘green light’ to enter a bidding war for the Irish international winger.

A quote from Souness: "We have had no offers for Damien and we don´t want any offers for him, but if someone came in and offered us ridiculous money then we´d have to be realistic about it.

"On top of that, if the boy wanted to go it would be very difficult to hold onto him.

"At the end of last season there were people sniffing around him, namely Manchester United and Liverpool, and I think each of them was worried about who was going to take him at the time.

"But we made it very plain that they´d have to pay a lot of money for him and nothing has changed since."

Fergie tells his players to concentrate on theri own games and not worry about Figo, Carlos, Zidane or Ronaldo

"This will be our fourth meeting against them in European football and we are certainly not short in our knowledge of their players, they are all stars.

"They have won the trophy nine times and are devoted to it. Last year they sacrificed the Spanish league to make sure they won the European Cup.

"We can never do that. We are entrenched in the tribal warfare of this country where we always have to beat Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City or whoever. But Tuesday can be our day.

"We have to focus on our own team more than ever. If we start saying watch Figo, watch Ronaldo, watch Zidane, watch Raul, you would end up with twisted blood.

"I am not going to allow that. We must concentrate on ourselves and if the concentration is right and the focus is right we have a real chance, believe me.

"Real are better now than they were two years ago because they have collected the best players. Ronaldo can win a game, Zidane, Figo, Raul, they can all turn games and that is why we have to concentrate.

"But we have matured as a team, we have learned the hard way and those games against Real Madrid three years ago. Last season we got the battle going too late when we couldn´t afford a mistake and we couldn´t do it."

Quaresma has long been linked with Manchester United, whose assistant manager, Carlos Queiroz, used to coach Sporting Lisbon, while United have established links with the Portuguese club.

Newcastle´s Bobby Robson was at Friday´s U-21 match and he too has links with the club, as he coached them during the 1990´s, while he also signed Hugo Viana from them last summer.

The Ukrainian appeals to Manchester United coach Alex Ferguson who has been told that he would have to sell before buying anyone this summer ( due to the size of the squad). Therefore an offer of Ryan Giggs plus cash could be in the reckoning.

The Welshman has always said how happy he is at the club, but if he were no longer wanted things could quickly change.

Je pense que ça sera au mieux des remplaçants de luxe ( a part ptêt pour Van buyten) : (

Ce qui faut, c´est un pote pour Ruud. Un bel ataquant, et a eux 2, ils feront des miracles...

pour le real mu je pense que mu va gagner mais tout le monde est pour le real et ils disent que c´est la meilleure equipe, ils ont quand meme du mal en ligue 1 espagnole

Mais vu l´effectif, le real aurait du etre encore plus dominateur.
