Man Utd unveil duo

Sir Alex Ferguson has hailed his latest signings Cristiano Ronaldo and Kleberson as the men to take the club to European glory.
Speaking as the two were formally unveiled at an Old Trafford news conference, Ferguson admitted he had been chasing both players for months.

" We have always tried to take a step forward," he said.

" There´s the big issue of European football.

" I think we have been a fraction short in recent years and we want to win trophies and that´s why signings like this encourage me.

" I think Kleberson won the World Cup for Brazil. I think he was vital to them. Brazil needed someone to stabilise the team."

Ferguson has given Ronaldo the club´s fabled number seven shirt vacated by David Beckham.

" One of the reasons we have given the shirt to Ronaldo is because he´s young," said the Old Trafford boss.

" He´s a young lad who´s going to get better and better.

" There have been some famous players at this club ( who have worn number seven). Eric Cantona, Bryan Robson and David Beckham have held the jersey over my time at the club.

" I think it was appropriate that a young player like Ronaldo should take it because hopefully he´s going to be at the club for a long, long time."

Ronaldo said he hoped to succeed despite the pressure of becoming the most expensive teenager in British football after signing for £12.2m.

" It´s a great joy but it´s a great responsiblity," he said.

" It´s a privilege to be at a club as great as this. I´m going to try and emulate the players who have been here and match what they´ve done

Sir Alex Ferguson´s attempts to sell reserve keeper Ricardo are failing because of the player´s £15,000-a-week wages. Ferguson would accept a fee close to the £1.5m Man Utd paid for him. ( Daily Star)
