Barcelona president Joan Laporta has hinted defender Carles Puyol may be sold if the club receive a generous offer from Manchester United.
The Spanish international, who can play at right-back or in the centre of the defence, is believed to have been targeted by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson to strengthen the English champions´ inconsistent back four.
On the subject of Puyol, Laporta said: " No player is indispensable and if an offer came in which was of interest to us then we would study it.
" In principle, it´s not our intention to sell Puyol, but we are open to offers.
" Nobody at the club is untouchable, either on a sporting or general level.
" When I say that, I mean people come and go, but the club will always remain.
" We are obliged to listen to offers, although whether or not they interest us is another thing.
" The club´s intention is for Puyol to stay at Barca for many years because of his power, his quality, charisma and the fact that everyone loves him."
Coach Frank Rijkaard was not entirely ruling out the prospect of Puyol leaving the club where, as a Catalan, he is a revered figure and the most popular player in the team.
After his team lost 2-1 in a friendly at Manchester City on Sunday, Rijkaard was asked about Puyol´s future and cautiously commented: " There´s been a lot of speculation but as yet there´s nothing official."
