David Bellion was delighted to score on his debut, but admits he´s still at the start of a very long road at Manchester United.

The Frenchman came off the bench and showed glimpses of the pace that caught Sir Alex Ferguson´s eye, before charging into the area to finish off a great move and score the final goal in the Reds´ 4-0 win over Celtic in Seattle. There´s more to come, he promises.

" It was nice for me and great," he told MUTV after the match.

" It was a good goal, good to remember for my debut. I´ve just got to keep going. There´s a long way to go now.

" We´ve trained for two weeks, every day you look to improve, and it was a good debut."

David is still having to pinch himself to remember he´s signed for the biggest club in the world.

" I play with the best players in the world, and learning every day," he continued.

" It´s great. I am young, I have the opportunity to play in a big club so I am really happy. I cannot ask for more than this, it´s great.

" It is like a little dream come true when you are young.

" I am happy to wear the shirt of Manchester United. It was an unbelievable reception because I am not used to this.

" I was focused on the game. Since the beginning because I have to make good impressions and work hard to do the best I can when I get on the pitch."

And the former Sunderland man is enjoying every minute of his United career so far.

" When you are new, you are a bit shy, and you play with big players and it´s good because they are really friendly with me and try to talk with me.

" It´s a good team spirit, with a lot of jokes, and I am really happy."

Fergie hails David´s debut

23/7/03 8:45 AM

Click for Ruud´s reaction to the match

Sir Alex Ferguson says that he´s excited that David Bellion marked his Manchester United goal with the final goal in a 4-0 romp over Celtic in Seattle.

The Frenchman started the match on the bench but was given the chance to shine in the second half, and showed electrifying bursts of pace - one of which led to his well-taken goal. He´s got a good chance of making it at Old Trafford says Fergie.

" For any young lad of 20 to make his debut and score is exciting," the Boss told MUTV after the match.

" I hope he develops - he has quite a bit to learn but he has good enthusiasm. He´s lightning quick, his control is good but he has to develop parts of his game.

" You want a competitive element through the club and have so many players competing for a first-team place.

" There are no guarantees at Manchester United. If you perform well it gives me the decision of what to do with the team."

Fergie admitted that the scoreline was somewhat kind on the Reds, but nonetheless he was pleased with the way his players went about their business in their first pre-season match.

" It was a bit flattering in the first half but the quality of the goals was good.

" Ruud´s goal was just Ruud. At that point we were trying to bed in and Celtic were much sharper and were dominating. The goal gave us leeway and respite.

" We controlled the match better in the second half. Celtic could have scored and looked much sharper to the ball at times. It was good and competitive and there was a great spirit. We have done well.

" Celtic made it difficult but there was a good energy about us and our finishing was terrific. The goals were marvellous."

" Veron wants to stay at Man Utd"

Juan Sebastian Veron wants to remain at Man Utd despite reported interest from Chelsea.

The Argentine international has said he is willing to fight for his place at the Old Trafford club.

Man Utd have said they are willing to listen to offers for Veron and the 28-year-old has been linked with a £14m move to Chelsea.

Veron was signed from Lazio for £28.1m two years ago, but has struggled to command a regular place in the starting line-up.

I want to stay and I have made my intentions clear

Juan Sebastian Veron
He said: " It has never been my intention to leave Manchester United.

" I want to stay and I have made my intentions clear.

" But I do not know what the club want to do."

Veron replaced Roy Keane at half-time in their 4-0 friendly win over Celtic in Seattle and could soon be competing for a place with Brazilian international Kleberson

=>Une très bonne chose.
