=>"MORE TRANSFER TALK "
Story by Editor 2 April 2003
Not a day goes by...blah di blah di blah.
Today´s rumour mill, courtesy of Planet Football links United with Auxerre forward Olivier Kapo. Arsenal are apparently interested as well but Kapo looks set for Manchester as, wait for it, his agent is Eric Cantona´s former lawyer.
Meanwhile the Guardian thinks Damien Duff will snub Liverpool for Old Trafford.
Damien Duff is set to disappoint Liverpool by moving to Manchester United this summer. The 24-year-old Blackburn Rovers winger is wanted by both clubs but Sir Alex Ferguson appears to have won the battle and Duff is expected to leave Ewood Park for a fee as high as £10m at the end of the season.

"Michael Owen is a doubt for Liverpool´s Premiership trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. "
Owen limped out of England´s 2-0 win over Turkey with a dead back, resulting from a collision with Turkey goalkeeper Rustu.
The Liverpool striker said: "I got a knee in my back in the first half and it stiffened up.
"I probably should have come off at half time to be honest but I carried on.
This is a dead back, I´ve never had a dead back before
Michael Owen
"I then fell on my back in the second half and couldn´t continue," said Owen who was substituted after 58 minutes.
Owen admitted his involvement in the Old Trafford showdown is in doubt.
He told Liverpool´s website: "It remains to be seen whether I´m fit to play on Saturday.
England surge past Turkey
"It normally takes a couple of days to recover from a dead leg but this is a dead back. I´ve never had a dead back before."
If Owen is not fit, Czech striker Milan Baros is his most likely replacement against title-chasing United.
Barros played a key role in the Czech Republic´s 4-0 European Championship qualifying win over Austria.

"Ruud in Dutch action"
Euro 2004 qualifying match
Moldova 1
Holland 1
Ruud van Nistelrooy found the net for the eleventh time for his country as Holland beat Moldova 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
The Reds striker levelled the scores in the 27th minute after Boret had given the home side the lead. The Dutch left it late to claim all three points, however, with Marc van Bommel scoring in the 84th minute.
Dick Advocaat´s Holland remain well on course for a place at the European Championships, with ten points from their four qualifying matches to date.
"Ole takes on Luxembourg "
Euro 2004 qualifying match
Luxembourg 0
Norway 2
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scored his twentieth goal for Norway on Wednesday night as the Vikings beat Luxembourg 2-0 away from home.
Ole lined up with ex-Reds Henning Berg and Ronny Johnsen in the starting eleven, but it took half-time substitute Sigurd Rushveldt to open the scoring in the 58th minute.
Solskjaer doubled the visitors´ lead in the 73rd minute, and the result, coupled with Group 2 leaders Denmark´s 2-0 defeat by Bosnia Herzegovina, vastly improves Ole´s chances of qualifying for Euro 2004 in Portugal.
"France see off Israel "
Euro 2004 qualifying match
Israel 1
France 2
Fabien Barthez and Mikael Silvestre both started for France as the defending Champions virtually guaranteed their place at the 2004 European Championships.
The 2-1 away win over Israel, courtesy of goals from David Trezeguet and Zinedine Zidane, gives France a maximum fifteen points from their five games in Group One, making them almost uncatchable at the top.
Israel took a shock early lead in the first minute through Afek, but Jacques Santini´s men fought back well to keep up their 100% record in qualifying.
"Becks inspires England win "
Euro 2004 qualifying match
England 2
Turkey 0
David Beckham captained England to a vital 2-0 win over Turkey that takes Sven´s men to the top of Euro 2004 qualifying group seven on Wednesday evening, scoring a late penalty to make sure of the victory.
Becks started in midfield alongside United colleagues Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, while Gary Neville lined up alongside Rio Ferdinand in defence.
But it was the captain who made all the early running, picking up a yellow card that will keep him out of England´s next game before putting a relatively easy chance just wide after eleven minutes.
Nicky Butt picked up a knock early on, but thankfully managed to run it off. Michael Owen was not so lucky - he was substituted after 57 minutes and is a doubt for Saturday´s match at Old Trafford.
England piled on the pressure in the second half, with Scholes, substitute Darius Vassell and Beckham all bringing great saves out of Turkey ´keeper Rustu Recber - who has been linked with United in the past.
With fifteen minutes to go, Rio Ferdinand had a shot on goal that Recber parried, but only into the path of Aston Villa´s Vassell, who buried the ball into the net to give England the lead.
Three vital points in the race to qualify for Euro 2004 were tied up when Becks struck from the penalty spot in injury time to complete the 2-0 win after Kieron Dyer had been fouled by Bulent.
The result sees England leapfrog the visitors to Sunderland´s Stadium of Light - Becks and the lads now sit on top of Group Seven with ten points from four games. Turkey are second on seven, with Slovakia - who stuffed Liechenstein 4-0 on Wednesday - third with six points.
=>le real craint Ryan ; -)
"He is Ryan mighty "
Ryan Giggs has the superstars of Real Madrid running scared ahead their European Cup showdown with Manchester United. The Spaniards see the Old Trafford winger as a greater threat than David Beckham - who has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu. Real defender Francisco Pavon, 23, declared: "Giggs has more depth to his game than Beckham. He´s more skilful with the ball at his feet. Beckham is a bit limited by only playing on the wing and sending over crosses to the strikers. Beckham does not have the real burst of speed needed to get away from a full-back such as Roberto Carlos. Giggs is more difficult because he is faster."

"Ruud´s rescue act"
Ruud van Nistelrooy was on target as Holland fought from behind to eventually see off Moldova 2-1. Vadim Boret stunned the Dutchmen with a 17th-minute strike. But Manchester United striker Van Nistelrooy netted his 35th goal for club and country this season to level the Group Three clash. It was not until six minutes from time that Holland claimed a winner through midfielder Mark van Bommel.

"Hierro´s return"
Fernando Hierro, captain and defensive lynchpin of Real Madrid, will be back for the Champions League clash with Manchester United at the Bernabeu on Tuesday after nearly two months recovering from a knee injury. The 35-year-old will warm up for the United game with a Saturday night derby at home to Rayo Vallecano.

"Beckham: This one was all for you, Sven"
David Beckham dedicated the crucial victory over Turkey to under-fire boss Sven Goran Eriksson as England revitalised their Euro 2004 qualifying campaign. Skipper Beckham insisted the eye-catching performance was delivered for the beleaguered Swede, who has found his reign under increased scrutiny.

"League turned off by Kenyon TV gripe"
Football League chiefs have hit back at Manchester United chief executive Peter Kenyon´s appeal for the three-hour Saturday afternoon TV blackout to be overturned. Faced with growing resentment from his own fans at the lack of traditional 3pm kick-offs this season, Kenyon is keen to see the ban on screening games lifted. However, League head of communications John Nagle voiced long-standing fears that such a switch would have a disastrous impact on attendances below Premier League level. "Anyone with a wider perspective and the best interests of the whole game at heart would have to realise that the Saturday afternoon black-out is sacrosanct," he said.

"Wenger talks down to Ferguson"
Arsene Wenger is thriving on the pressure of the title run-in and has told Sir Alex Ferguson: "Why should I worry when I can still look down at you?" In a dig at Ferguson, whose side are still in the Champions League, he added that the season´s main objective was "to prove that you are the best team in your own country."
David Hytner, Daily Express
"Board worries"
Members of Manchester United´s board are now among those who believe it is only a matter of time before Ireland´s horseracing elite of Dermot Desmond, JP McManus and John Magnier take a controlling interest in Old Trafford despite Peter Kenyon´s insistence this week that JP and co, who already have the largest United shareholding, are only playing for the share value.

"Carlos faces a United knockout"
Manchester United will discover by the weekend whether Brazilian superstar Roberto Carlos is out of their clash with Real Madrid. FIFA are studying the referee´s report after Real´s star full-back was sent off for pushing Israeli official Alon Yefet during Brazil´s 2-1 defeat by Portugal.

"Scouse bit-part player finds someone to listen to him"
Steve McManaman, in the Spanish press, believes that Madrid
are favourites to progress to the Champions League Final:
“Madrid are favourites against Manchester, even the bookies
say that,
“Also we have the best team in the world. However, it will
be difficult and the hardest thing will be to play at Old
Trafford; the public press you very hard there.”
He also rejected any idea of him moving to Manchester as
part of a deal for David Beckham:
“It´s impossible for me to go to Manchester, it would never
ever happen. I played for Liverpool and I would be like a
Madrid player moving to Barcelona. I don´t miss England and
I am very happy here.”
Don’t worry Steve, it doesn’t seem too likely that you’ll be
asked.
