The official site report
United Reserves, boasting internationals Phil Neville, Quinton Fortune and Roy Carroll, drew 1-1 away at Bolton Wanderers on Monday evening.
The match, played at Gigg Lane in front of a small crowd, did not match the usual intensity of a Greater Manchester Derby, but there were moments of good football during the game.
Daniel Nardiello scored his fourth goal in two games - this time from the penalty spot after Jimmy Davis was brought down by Mike Whitlow.

Rio Ferdinand has been banned from driving for six months at Leeds Magistrates Court.
The United defender was clocked speeding at an average of 92 miles per hour on the M1 motorway in Leeds last March, and was fined a total of £5,500 as well as the suspension of his driving licence. " ( Red Issue)
=> Shocked source inside the club reports
A highly placed Red Issue source inside the club has revealed, to his absolute astonishment, that ex-Leeds United chairman Peter Ridsdale is to be offered a position on the Plc board. Apparently his resignation from Leeds had nothing to do with supporter pressure, United have been after him for several months.
Our source has indicated that while the Plc do admit that he made some mistakes during his time at Elland Road, they feel that with the correct guidance he will be a valuable asset to the club. Apparently his experience of dealing with top European clubs in the transfer market may lead to him overseeing all incoming and outgoing transfers once he has settled into his job.
Both Ridsdale and United are prepared for the inevitable supporter backlash, but feel that this opportunity was too good to turn down for both sides.
More to come as we find out.

"Fergie must sell"
United Chief Executive Peter Kenyon has told Sir Alex that he must sell players before he can bring new faces into his squad.
United announced a 32% rise in profits in the half-year up to 1 April, and Fergie has previously complained that his squad is the smallest of all the European super-powers. However, Kenyon says that the playing staff won´t be dramatically increased during the summer.
"It is fair to say that if Sir Alex wants to buy someone, he will have to sell someone else," said Kenyon after the financial results were released on Tuesday.
"The reality is that you can only field 11 players at one time and we currently have 24 in our squad, which, when it is supplemented with some of our younger players, we feel is the right number to get through 70-plus games a year.
"What we have consistently said is that we will not bring in players just to sit on the bench."
And there definitely won´t be a repeat of the £30 million fee that brought Rio Ferdinand from Leeds United last year.
"Certainly from Manchester United´s perspective we believe these kind of sums to buy players are a thing of the past and when you look at our results compared to some other clubs, it is difficult to see them having the resources to pay money like that," he said.
"Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we are now seeing transfer prices come down. Buying Rio was the right decision at the time and it remains so. He fitted into the right age profile and we look upon him as a long-term investment.
"We made the decision to buy him in light of our overall wage structure and transfer budget we set ourselves and we achieved those targets."

=>"Laurent tips O´Shea "
Veteran French defender Laurent Blanc believes that John O´Shea has a huge future in front of him at Old Trafford.
The 37-year-old centre-back has watched the Irishman´s development over the past two seasons, and believes that he, Wes Brown and Mikael Silvestre will be central to United´s success in the next few years.
“John has done very well this year,” Blanc told MUTV.
“It doesn’t matter whether it is at right-back, left-back, central defence or even midfield, he always seems to adapt. For someone who is only 21, he is very mature and plays the game with intelligence.
“He’s important for the future of Manchester United, as are Wes Brown and Mikael Silvestre. They can continue to develop with the players who have greater experience and they will do well.”
And Laurent, who played 21 times before December but has hardly figured in the first team since, says that the Reds won´t miss him when he hangs up his boots this summer.
“Manchester United existed before me and it will exist after me,” he said.
“I don’t know what I will do next year but I think I need a break.
“Maybe if I could help some younger players that would be good for me but I do have some time to think about it before I have to make a decision.”

"Meek on the Manager: 2 April"
Long-time United watcher David Meek believes that Sir Alex will not be selling two of his prize assets this summer, regardless of what the newspapers say...
Sir Alex Ferguson is entering the most crucial stage of the season, a period of high intensity games which will define the success or otherwise of the whole campaign.
It’s a time requiring the utmost concentration from the players as well as the manager, yet what does Sir Alex find when he opens the papers?
Only that the media world is trying to sell two of his super stars.
I guess this must be the last thing Sir Alex wants as he plans and plots his way through the demands of a six-match examination which will decide whether United finish in glory or find themselves without a trophy for the second successive season.
David Beckham and Ryan Giggs are two of the main men as the Reds make their bid to beat Arsenal and Newcastle for the Championship while at the same time attempting to climb the Real Madrid mountain on their way, hopefully, to a Champions League final at Old Trafford in May.
The reports and rumours are persistent with Beckham featuring in a £40million transfer to Real Madrid with Giggs on his way – yet again – to Inter Milan for around £20million.
You will notice that all the stories are conspicuous for the absence of any comment from the United manager. How do you comment on speculation in the complex world of transfers, and especially at a time like this when it is the here-and-now that matters, not future possibilities?
I imagine he has also grown used to the gossip and conspiracy theories that inevitably surround the world’s best players and wisely he ignores all of it.
It seems pretty clear that Real Madrid, despite a later denial, have set their sights on Beckham for a move to Spain this summer.
Jorge Valdano, Real’s sporting director, says quite openly: “David Beckham looks like the next big project for us.”
Backed by the money of the Real President, Florentino Perez, Real have adopted a policy of targeting one major player like Figo, Zidane and Ronaldo each summer. It’s a strategy that has left the reigning Champions League champions with an impressive array of talent, but apparently with room for one more twinkly star.
“If David Beckham signs I know how I would use him,” says Vicente del Bosque the Real Madrid coach.
Clearly there is genuine interest, but will Beckham be tempted?
He signed a new lucrative contract with the Reds only last year and responds diplomatically by saying any player would be honoured to be spoken about by Real Madrid. They have great players and a great tradition, he says.
Even Sir Alex Ferguson admits that these days Beckham is something of a law unto himself, and with wife Victoria from the world of showbiz behind the England captain, he must wonder what might happen.
It’s a similar worry with Ryan Giggs, long fancied by Inter Milan, and earlier this season locked in a battle with inconsistent form which some of the critics believe points to the manager concluding that Ryan could be past his sell-by date and that the player himself perhaps feels he needs a change of scene.
But Giggs insists: “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I want to end my career at Manchester United.
“I know that the choice isn’t ultimately mine, but that’s what I hope for and what I will continue to work for.
“I have no intention of leaving Old Trafford. I’m as happy here as I was when I signed my first contract,” he declares.
I believe Ferguson will resist selling either Giggs or Beckham at a time when he is lamenting that he is three players short of having a squad to compare for size and quality with the likes of Real Madrid or even Arsenal.
As I see it, the United manager is in the business of building up his pool, not stripping it.
My verdict on what will happen is that at the end of the day both players will be influenced by what happens between now and May.
Team-mate Gary Neville warns says that if England don’t win some silverware soon they will be labelled failures. The same applies at Old Trafford following last season’s miss on trophies.
A second season without an honour would have a lot of people appraising their futures, but if there is some silver back in the trophy room, then I wouldn’t see either Beckham or Giggs leaving.
Why would they … what would be the point of leaving because they would have everything already at Old Trafford?
In the meantime let’s hope that the manager and his players are able to shut out the speculation and get on with the big job in hand, and it is certainly a huge task starting with a visit from Liverpool followed by two games against Real Madrid and matches against Newcastle, Arsenal and Blackburn.
As the manager spells out: “This is it, make or break time, as we enter the killer stage of the season and a massively challenging period of high intensity.
“Looking at our run in terms of quality and importance, I have got to say I’m hard pressed to think of a more demanding spell in my time at Old Trafford, especially knowing that we cannot afford to lose a single one of them if we are to achieve our ambitions.
“It’s a daunting list of fixtures, but as always, the secret is to concentrate on each game as it arrives. We are in good shape and I have been delighted with our response following the Worthington Cup final disappointment.
“Our reaction was first-class, putting our frustrated expectations behind us to produce a winning run in the League to take maximum points from Leeds, Villa and Fulham.
“The performance against Fulham was particularly encouraging. You could feel the determination in the side and of course Ruud van Nistelrooy with his hat-trick was in marvellous form. It was a display of old fashioned centre forward play. You won’t see many better goals than his second which combined a brilliant run with a so-clever finish.
“Ruud has put together a remarkable scoring record in his last two seasons after his injury and long may it continue, especially during these next half dozen games!”
Let’s hope also that the rumourmongers don’t start trying to find a new club for van Nistelrooy either.

=>"Reds target Nihat"
Turkey´s secret weapon to be unleashed against England on Wednesday night is a Manchester United target. And Sir Alex Ferguson is certain to ask his Reds´ England contingent for a spy update on Nihat Kavehci when they return to Carrington. United have been linked with the Turkish midfielder-cum-striker who is set to line up for his country in Sunderland. Reds´ boss Fergie´s brother Martin has already watched 23-year-old Kavehci play for Real Sociedad in La Liga. Alleged confirmation from the Spanish camp that there had been a serious offer from Old Trafford was later denied by Real Sociedad.

=>" You must flog them "
Alex Ferguson will have to sell one of his stars to fund plans to strengthen his Manchester United squad. That was the message from chief executive Peter Kenyon yesterday despite announcing a six-monthly profit of £20.3million. Ferguson has complained his squad is not strong enough with only 18 top outfield players to choose from. Both David Beckham and Ryan Giggs have attracted interest from abroad, with Real Madrid and Inter Milan ready to make big-money moves. Now Ferguson might have to take the cash. Kenyon said: "It is fair to say if Sir Alex wants to buy someone, he will have to sell someone else.

=>Manchester United are set to win the race to sign Republic of Ireland international Damien Duff, according to a report.
Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing to pay out around £10m for the Blackburn winger in the summer, says The Guardian newspaper.
Rovers boss Graeme Souness is understood to be prepared to sell the 24-year-old to raise funds to boost his squad.
The Irishman has attracted interest from a number of clubs after an outstanding World Cup campaign last year.
The news that Man Utd are set to poach Duff will disappoint Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier who desperately wanted to bring him to Anfield.
Man Utd profits dip
But Ferguson has already been warned his Duff deal relies on other players leaving Old Trafford first.

"It is fair to say that if Sir Alex wants to buy someone, he will have to sell someone else," Man Utd chief executive Peter Kenyon told BBC Radio Five Live.
"The reality is that you can only field 11 players at one time and we currently have 24 in our squad, which, along with some of our younger players, we feel is the right number.
"What we have consistently said is that we will not bring in players just to sit on the bench."
Duff´s arrival at Old Trafford could put pressure on current left-winger Ryan Giggs, who has been repeatedly linked with a move to Internazionale.
