Manchester United are confident of signing Ronaldinho before the start of the club´s US tour on Saturday.
Chief executive Peter Kenyon said it would be an " interesting news week" with Ronaldinho and goalkeeper Tim Howard set to sign and Juan Sebastian Veron possibly leaving.

United could also bid for Real Betis midfielder Joaquin.

Le défenseur belge de l´Olympique de Marseille, Daniel Van Buyten, a prévu de donner une conférence de presse mercredi. A cette occasion il devrait annoncer sa signature pour trois saisons supplémentaires avec le club phocéen.

Le géant défenseur belge Daniel Van Buyten devrait porter le maillot marseillais trois nouvelles saisons. D´aprés nos confrères du Parisien, le joueur a prévu une conférence de presse mercredi au cours de laquelle il devrait annoncer son intention de poursuivre son aventure sur la Canebière. Une annonce qui mettrait ainsi fin aux nombreuses rumeurs de départs entourant le meilleur marseillais la saison dernière

Aujourd’hui, tout laisse à croire que l’international belge annoncera mercredi à La Commanderie qu’il poursuit son aventure entamée il y a deux saisons lors d’un stage de reprise à Port-Crouesty. Van Buyten parapherait alors une prolongation de son contrat de trois ans supplémentaires. Mais les choses ne paraissent pas si simples que ça. Depuis quelques semaines, le Belge, qui s’est donné le temps de vraiment mûrir sa réflexion, semble hésiter entre une nouvelle saison sous le maillot olympien ou un nouveau challenge, probablement à l’étranger ( Manchester United, Juventus). Et c’est ce qui inquiète plus que tout les dirigeants olympiens, qui ne savent plus sur quel pied danser. D’autant que l’agent de Van Buyten ( NDLR : Roger Henrotay), en noyant le poisson, ne facilite rien.

MU piste Kleberson

Manchester United, en course pour s´attacher les services du champion du monde brésilien Ronaldinho, pourrait compter un deuxième membre de la Seleçao dans son effectif la saison prochaine. Alex Ferguson s´intéresse, en effet, à Kleberson.

Selon la presse britannique, alors que l´arrivée de Ronaldinho à Old Trafford est imminente, Manchester United aimerait s´offrir un autre champion du monde. En effet, le club mancunien aurait fait une offre à hauteur de 7 millions de livres pour transférer Kleberson, qui porte les couleurs de l´Atletico Paranaense. Peter Kenyon aurait ainsi rencontré le président du club, Mario Celso Petraglia. Les discussions devraient d´ailleurs se poursuivre ce mardi.

" Nouveau gardien à Manchester" ( L´equipe.fr)

Le gardien de l´équipe nationale des Etats-Unis et des New-York MetroStars, Tim Howard, jouera la saison prochaine à Manchester United où il sera directement en concurrence avec Fabien Barthez.

« Je suis béni », a déclaré Howard, élu à deux reprises meilleur gardien de la Major League Soccer aux Etats-Unis. « Peu de gens ont la chance qui m´est accordée. Je suis si heureux ». La nouvelle recrue mancunienne n´a cependant pas révélé le montant ni la durée de son contrat.

Natif de l´Etat du New Jersey, Tim Howard a fait ses débuts avec les Metros en 1998, à l´âge de 18 ans. Titulaire dans l´équipe des Etats-Unis lors de la dernière Coupe des Confédérations en France, Howard sera soumis à rude concurrence à Manchester, où évolue notamment l´international français Fabien Barthez.

Victime d´une légère baisse de régime en fin se saison dernière, le Français devra retrouver tous ses moyens s´il veut garder son poste de titulaire.

L´attaquant néerlandais du FC Barcelone Patrick Kluivert, qui a accepté que son contrat soit renégocié, devrait rester si les négociations entre ses agents et les dirigeants du Barça, entamées lundi, aboutissent.

La prolongation du contrat, pour un ou deux ans, sous-entend que le joueur devra accepter une baisse de son salaire, selon la proposition faite par le club catalan.

Son salaire, réduit à la baisse en raison de la politique d´austérité décidée par la nouvelle direction du Barça, serait constitué de 4 millions d´euros fixes par an et de 3,9 autres millions versés en fonction de ses résultats et des titres remportés par le club. Son salaire annuel actuel s´élèverait à 6 millions d´euros.

Le Néerlandais «a accepté de gagner moins si on lui prolonge son contrat d´un ou deux ans», a déclaré l´un des agents du joueur, Paul Foortse, en, ajoutant que désormais, il s´agissait de préciser «de combien en moins».

Le secrétaire technique du Barça, Txiki Begiristain, a déclaré pour sa part que les agents de Kluivert lui avaient transmis la volonté du joueur de rester en Catalogne.

Il s´est dit «très optimiste», ajoutant que les discussions étaient «très agréables», même s´il a précisé qu´il n´était pas encore question d´un accord «définitif» concernant le maintien de Kluivert au club.

" Ferguson targets Kleberson"

Manchester United are believed to be ready to hijack the signing of Brazilian international Kleberson by Leeds.

Reports claim the Old Trafford club have made an offer of between £5m and £7m for the Atletico Paranaense midfielder.

Leeds United had thought they were on the verge of signing the 24-year-old World Cup winner.

Manager Peter Reid said: " I have been an admirer of his for a long time - it will be terrific if we can find a way to bring him to Leeds."

But Man Utd boss Sir Alex Ferguson is said to see Kleberson as an ideal addition to his midfield following David Beckham´s move to Real Madrid.

He would also be a familiar face for countryman Ronaldinho - close to agreeing his own £19.3m move to Old Trafford from Paris Saint-Germain.

Kleberson´s arrival could hasten the departure of Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron, possibly in a £14m transfer to Chelsea.

Old Trafford chief executive Peter Kenyon has already met Paranaense president Mario Celso Petraglia, with more discussions set for Tuesday.

Kenyon has said he hopes to have the Ronaldinho transfer completed by the time United leave for their tour of the USA on Saturday.

A quick deal for Kleberson, followed by Veron´s exit, would sign off a memorable week for the Premiership champions who have also confirmed the arrival of American goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Kleberson, who has 20 caps and scored two international goals, was one of Brazil´s better players during their disappointing Confederations Cup campaign in France last month.

A member of the US team in Sydney Olympics in 2000, Tim was called up to the US national team in 2002, making his senior international debut against Ecuador in July. He has a total of 9 international caps.

" Howard wants to play"

Tim Howard has told ManUtd.com that he´s come to Manchester United to play first team football.

The American goalkeeper met the official website prior to appearing at his unveiling press conference, and said that he´s not come to Old Trafford to sit on the bench.

" My goals are to train well and to perform well, and if I get the opportunity to play in the first team that will be fantastic - that´s what we all want," he told us.

" There´s not a player in the world that wants to be on the bench - everyone wants to be on the field and that´s my goal."

Tim may not yet be well known in this country, but believes he has the attributes to make it in the Premiership.

" I´m physically athletic, I´m good at catching and jumping and I´m good with my hands. Shot-stopping will hopefully be the thing I´m best at!" he continued, before revealing that he knows all about his new team-mates.

" I´ve known Manchester United and the players for years!" he laughed as he looked out onto the newly-laid pitch.

" You can´t help but follow them as United are huge everywhere you go. Even in America where football isn´t that big.

" Ruud van Nistelrooy is a big name over there, as is Juan Veron and Roy Keane."

Tim is set to make his Reds debut in his homeland during the summer tour to the US, but the six-feet-three goalie doesn´t mind where his first game comes.

" I´m excited by it, it will be nice with the way the schedule has worked out," he said.

" It wasn´t a necessity but it will be good to get to know the team and the set-up. I just hope the fans receive me warmly."

Manchester United have unveiled new signing Tim Howard, but the 24-year-old goalkeeper is far from a household name in the UK.

Born on 6 March 1979, the six feet two inch American international keeper joins the Reds from the New York/New Jersey Metrostars, with whom he had spent five seasons.

The winner of numerous awards in the US - Aquafina Goalkeeper of the Year, New York Life Humanitarian of the Year, Nickelodeon GAS Play of the Year - he is perhaps known as much for suffering from Tourettes Syndrome as he is for playing in goal.

He is involved in creating awareness for the disorder which causes its sufferers to make rapid and involuntary tics and vocalizations and was named on the Board of Directors of the Tourette Syndrome Association of New Jersey in 12 November 2001.

He trained with AC Milan in November 1998, and is considered one of the best basketball players to be playing in the MLS.

Tim was called up to the US national team in 2001 for friendlies against Ecuador on 6 July and South Korea 12 September. A member of the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team in Sydney, he also kept a clean sheet in a World Cup warm-up match against Ecuador in March, 2002 - their first-ever win against Ecuador.
