" Man Utd in Ronaldinho pole"

Paris St Germain have revealed the club remain locked in talks over the future of Brazilian striker Ronaldinho.
Earlier on Saturday, Barcelona told BBC Sport that Manchester United were favourites to the sign the World Cup winner.

PSG president Francis Graille told www.leparisien.com that no deal would be reached this weekend.

" The discussions will continue this weekend but no decisive step forward will be made before Monday," he said.

United have emerged in pole position to sign the 24-year-old from PSG despite interest from Chelsea and Barcelona.

It is thought that the Premiership champions have offered a £19.3m package to the French club, with £15m to be paid up front and the rest dependent on United´s success on the field.

" I have been told that Manchester United have made a higher offer," Barcelona vice-president Sandro Rosell told this website.

" We have two advantages. The city of Barcelona and the magnificence of the club.

" We are asking players to come only if they are committed to the club. If it is only about money we would prefer him to go to United.

" He can make money in Manchester, but if he understands what it means to play for Barcelona and a country like Catalonia then he is more than welcome.

" We will not match United´s personal terms. It´s about the player´s commitment, it´s not about money. Maybe we are too romantic."

The Old Trafford club declined to make any formal comment about Ronaldinho on Friday when contacted by this website.

Stock market rules dictate that United cannot reveal any details of a transfer which might affect the club´s share price.

Officials at Old Trafford are keen to clinch the deal before the club embark on their pre-season tour of the United States.

Sir Alex Ferguson´s side will visit Seattle, Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia during their 16-day tour, which takes in matches against Celtic, Mexican outfit Club America, Juventus and Barcelona.

The player´s agent, Roberto Assis, claimed that the Brazilian is determined to play for Manchester United, where he would be guaranteed Champions League football next season.

" Ronaldinho wants to go to Manchester United, so at the moment it´s just a question of waiting for the deal to be completed," he said.

Manchester United are expected to complete the signing of United States goalkeeper Tim Howard on Monday after the 24-year-old received his English work permit.
Howard has agreed personal terms with the club and is expected to travel to England on Sunday before undergoing a medical on Monday.

" It´s great for me," said Howard. " I just need to get better and work harder.

" If I get to start some games, that´s great. If I´m a reserve in some games, that´s great.

" I´m so happy. It´s been a long time, and I feel so fortunate. Not many people get the opportunity that´s been given to me. I feel blessed.

" Obviously, the national team is a big issue and I need to be playing and getting better."

Earlier, Former Scotland international Mo Johnston, now an assistant coach with New York New Jersey Metro Stars, confirmed the departure of his side´s keeper to BBC Sport.

And Johnston believes the signing of the US international is a major coup for United.

" He´s a wonderful goalkeeper, tremendously agile, and I´m sure he´ll be a success in England," Johnston told BBC Scotland.

Howard has been in outstanding form in America´s MLS this season and was overwhelmingly selected as goalkeeper for the end-of-season All-Star game.

He polled more votes from the league´s coaches than any other player.

The 24-year-old suffers from Tourette´s Syndrome, a neurological disorder that causes nervous tics and uncontrolled verbal outbursts.

Howard is due to link up with Manchester United on their pre-season tour of the United States.
