=> BECKHAM devrait rester ( encore une raison de + )
"If Beckham wanted to uproot to a foreign country, though, he
would face obstacles. Beckham, 27, who signed for United as
a trainee in July 1991, would find himself accused of a
breach of contract under new Fifa transfer rules if he
walked out without the club’s blessing.
Players who sign contracts before they turn 28 are subject
to harsh penalties. In the first two years, that means a
four-month worldwide playing ban. The player and poaching
club can also be fined.’
And Valdano has further denied any interest, speaking to
Real Madrid TV he said:
“In respect to the much commented question about David
Beckham, the possibility that Beckham will one day play for
Real Madrid is very remote,
“The possibility that Figo will leave Madrid is not remote -
it is impossible.” "

"Wilf´s World: Champions League Special"
In his latest column, Wilf McGuinness looks ahead to United´s Champions League clash with Real Madrid, praises the Reds´ future stars, and tackles the club versus country debate...
"United in the Champions League"
I’ve mentioned before that I think we raise our game for the bigger teams in Europe. We’ve matured in Europe and we have looked like a really good team when we’ve needed to. We will certainly need to against Real Madrid because they have some of the best players in the world. However, there will be gaps at the back that I feel we can exploit. It’s nice that they attack, but I really feel that style of play leaves holes in defence. They started the season badly, worse than us. But they’ve turned it around now and they play some really attractive football. They have world class players everywhere you look.
"David Beckham will find it difficult against Roberto Carlos" – he’s a star. He plays an attacking game but, like I said, that may leave gaps in behind him. We’ll have to see how David does. There’s been talk recently about Beckham going to Madrid. Obviously somebody like David Beckham will attract the attentions of the top clubs. It’s the same as us being attracted to some of their players – Zidane for instance. But David knows where his home is, and it’s here. It would take more than a nick on the eyebrow for him to leave!
"United fly the flag in the Champions League"
United are now the only team left in the Champions League. Newcastle put on a wonderful show in the Champions League, but they slipped up at home and that was their biggest problem. And Arsenal still don’t seem to get it right in Europe, as they also fell before the quarter final stage after losing the Valencia - I’ll leave it at that. I was quite pleased! United fans were too, we didn’t want Arsenal coming up here for the final in May. As long as there is an English team left in the competition, though, I’m sure the fans will be happy – especially the United fans.
"Quarter final clash with Real"
Looking at the Real Madrid tie, it’s an advantage that United are away first. Even though the last time we played them in the quarter finals, we drew 0-0 over there and lost 3-2 here - they would were good games. United’s fans will be looking forward to this one, I’m sure they would have loved it to be the final, but they will looking forward to it nevertheless. It’s a game between the two most attractive club sides in the world, without a shadow of a doubt. Real Madrid play some lovely football and, when we are on form, we play tremendous football as well. I’m sure Madrid would have wanted to avoid us in the draw as much as we wanted to avoid them. But if we’ve got to play them, we might as well do it now.
In that quarter final three seasons ago, I thought we made errors defensively. But I’m positive we have learned from that. We’ve grown up since then. We’ve matured. Players like Mikael Silvestre have grown in stature – he’s had a really good season this term. We’ve got options now at the back, which we perhaps didn’t have before. The one player who has stood out for me, more than any, is John O’Shea. He can play any of the positions across the back four, and is tremendous wherever the manager puts him. There has even been talk of him playing in midfield - he’s got that ability.
"Praise for John O’Shea"
We used to say that some players play for the reserves and they look steady, but they need that step up into the first team. Well, I think John’s been one of those players. He’s made for first team football at Manchester United. He was steady in the reserves, but since he has made the step up he has blossomed. I think he’ll be a star, not only for Manchester United, but for Ireland as well. It’s too early to say which position he will finally settle into. He looks to be one of those players who can player a defensive role across the back four and also in midfield. Don’t forget that Roy Keane had a spell at centre-half while he was at Nottingham Forest before he came to United. I think John could play in midfield – he wouldn’t be a Roy Keane type player. He’s different. His dribbling ability for such a big guy is fantastic. If he works hard and gets that little bit of aggression that he needs he’ll come through.
Only twelve months ago I remember John O’Shea being at a football dinner, it was the East Anglian Supporters Club dinner at Old Trafford. Three young players came along; Colin Heath, David Fox and John O’Shea. They were hoping for a first-teamer that night – they didn’t get one at the time, but look how he has developed. This year we had Colin Heath and David Fox at the dinner again, but this time they were with Darren Fletcher. He’s another one who could take to first team football just like O’Shea has done. I’m sure he’s got the ability to do it. Darren’s been unlucky with injuries. Like John O’Shea, I think he will find his home in United’s first team. He’s got the make-up to do it - he’s certainly got the ability.
"International breaks"
Many of United’s players are off on international duty at the moment. From a United point of view, there is the risk that players will get injured, and I understand that the clubs are the ones who pay the wages. But you are always very proud to play for your country - it’s a real honour. It’s good for the players if the game is of significant importance. There are too many friendlies at the moment, and too many caps being handed out to trialists. It’s hard to say that United’s players will come back refreshed because there is travelling and games involved. But I always remember when Sir Alex sent certain players away on a break during the Treble-winning season. I always thought that was a great fillip. This is a different kind of break, but it may have the same effect – I hope it does!

=>"Becks can see silver lining "
David Beckham last night promised: "England will win the World Cup or European Championship - with me as captain." Becks´ best pal Gary Neville admits he fears England could be branded flops if they fail to deliver some silverware in the next few years. But the skipper roared: "I´ve been fortunate to play for two great teams, Manchester United and England, and to win great trophies. But there is still something missing from my achievements. I believe you need great ambition to win things and I also believe the time WILL come when this England side wins a trophy. Plenty of people believe it´s impossible for England to lift one of the two big international trophies because of the level of competition we face. But I do not agree."
Ross Gregory, The Sun
=>"Real cost of Becks"
David Beckham and Patrick Vieira, two of the world’s finest midfield players, are giving their clubs a problem as their contracts wind down. Speculation has erupted again this week about the future of both, with Real Madrid linked with Manchester United superstar Beckham and Arsenal warning Vieira that he must get real on any new terms with the Gunners. But the facts are that they are currently perceived as being too costly in terms of fees and wages while in mid-contract.

=>"Beckham must show us he can become a real leader"
Lock the Ferrari in the garage and hang the sarong in the back of the wardrobe. Put the ear-rings in the bottom of the drawer and stop fussing with the hair-do. Tell the missus that Madrid is not for Real and Milan is only for the shopping. The time has come for David Beckham to stand four-square before the mast for England. Leadership is a priority issue in all fields of human endeavour, football prominent among them, so scarce and precious has that quality become.
Jeff Powell, Daily Mail
=>"Bellion’s mystery"
Sunderland striker David Bellion admits he does not know where he will be playing next season. The 20-year-old Frenchman hit the headlines around the turn of the year when Manchester United expressed an interest in him but his last appearance was back in February, and he has not been given a chance to impress new boss Mick McCarthy. He said: “I don’t know what is going to happen.”

=>"Mac not kidding"
Manchester United youth team boss Brian McClair has warned that the club’s £8million state-of-the-art academy could be dominated by foreign youngsters unless FA rules banning English players further than a ’90-minute drive’ zone from the academies are changed. He said: “This does not benefit the clubs or the youngsters.”

"You Real-ly should tell us Becks"
David Beckham leads out England tonight at one of football’s smallest outposts. He’s never been to Liechtenstein before but, more significantly, the England captain wants to know where’s he’s going in the future. Beckham is facing the huge decision of whether to quit Manchester United and English football at the end of the season. The link with Real Madrid is no coincidence. Top foreign clubs and their agents sense that the time is right to prise Beckham away from Old Trafford.

=>"Ronaldo for Becks swap plan "
A swap involving David Beckham going to Real Madrid and Ronaldo coming to Manchester United is being put together by sports manufacturers adidas and Nike. United have put a minimum £30m price tag on Beckham and the two giant companies are convinced they can help finance what would be the most sensational move in football. Real Madrid made Beckham their prime summer target last week and although their interest has been described as highly speculative, German company adidas and American firm Nike are working together to make the move happen. One option is to offer United cash plus Brazil´s Ronaldo who is known to be unsettled at Real. The two companies already have high stake investments in both clubs. Adidas produce Madrid´s shirts and have Beckham as their star sponsored player. Nike have Ronaldo on their books and are United´s shirt sponsors. It makes sense for both companies to have their star clients wearing their best-selling shirts. Last night an insider at Nike confirmed they were keen to help negotiate the moves and are prepared to bankroll them to ensure they go through. United could exchange Beckham for Ronaldo with both sides also pocketing as much as £20m from the deal, financed by adidas and Nike who believe they would quickly get their money back from shirt and boot sales.
Paul Smith, Sunday Mirror ( tres difficile a croire!!!!!!!!)
=>"Fergie goes in for Duff and Bellamy"
Manchester United are preparing a multi-million-pound double bid for Damien Duff and Craig Bellamy. Sir Alex Ferguson has been given the go-ahead to embark on a massive restructuring programme and he has placed the Blackburn winger and the Newcastle striker on his list. Ferguson could find himself with as much as £50million to spend this summer if he decides to cash in on Ryan Giggs and David Beckham and he will have no problem in bidding around £15m apiece for Duff and Bellamy. United´s targeting of 23-year-old Duff will come as a huge blow to Liverpool, who had been confident of landing the Republic of Ireland man. Ferguson views World Cup star Duff as the long-term successor to Giggs, who looks as if he could be heading for Inter Milan this summer. Duff, who scored for the Republic in yesterday´s 2-1 win in Georgia, has signed a four-year contract at Blackburn, but Souness admits he will have to sell if the price is right. And it is a similar story at Newcastle, where Bellamy has also signed a five-year deal.
Brian McNally, Sunday Mirror
=>"Becks dedicates win to Gulf War troops"
David Beckham inspired England to a vital win - and then dedicated it to the heroes in the Gulf. The goals came from Beckham and Michael Owen - although Sven Goran Eriksson´s team will have to step up several gears against Turkey at Sunderland on Wednesday if they are to keep alive hopes of automatic qualification for Euro 2004. Beckham said: "It was important to get three points. And if an England win can lift the troops, let´s hope it did tonight - and let´s hope it will again on Wednesday against Turkey. Our thoughts go out to the troops in the Gulf and their families, especially those who have lost loved ones."
Brian McNally, Sunday Mirror
=>"Becks would be sold for the right price"
It may sound like sacrilege to Manchester United fans but selling David Beckham may be a good move for the Old Trafford outfit. If Real are serious about luring the England captain to Spain and offering a figure of around £30m United would have little option but to sell. That´s why Fergie says he would be powerless to prevent Beckham leaving if Real or another leading European club came in for him. It´s hardly surprising to hear that top European clubs are interested in Beckham. He is a world-class talent and just about every major club in Serie A or La Liga would love to have him in their side. He has been at Manchester United for more than 10 years now and he may feel that it is time to see what football is like in another part of the world. Some fans might be surprised that Beckham could even consider leaving Old Trafford given United´s dominance of the English game over the last decade but that might be the very reason he will go - he has won everything there is to win in English football as well as the Champions League.
Andy Gray, Sunday Mirror
=>"Hughes: Too early for talk of the finals"
Mark Hughes last night banished all talk of Portugal despite seeing his side take a huge step towards the Euro 2004 finals. Wales´s 4-0 victory over Azerbaijan maintained their 100 per cent record. The result gives Wales a great chance of reaching their first major finals since 1958. Yet Hughes said: "We aren´t talking in terms of having one foot in the finals. But we´ve made a good start, and I was very pleased with the performance and the goals that we scored today. This is a great result for us, and the players in the dressing room are understandably very happy. But there are four games still to play, and it´s important that we now keep our noses in front."
Simon Mullock, Sunday Mirror
=>"Becks can go for £35million"
Manchester United would consider offers for David Beckham if the bidding reached a collosal £35million. Real Madrid´s public declaration of their interest in the superstar midfielder has prompted an Old Trafford rethink about his future. I understand United would be willing to do the unthinkable and part company with the England captain if the price was so high they couldn´t afford to say no. As well as Real, Inter Milan are also thought to be waiting to pounce if there is a suggestion that Beckham is up for grabs. And if two of the superpowers of European football become involved in a bidding war, that could easily force the fee up towards United´s £35m valuation. There is a growing feeling among the United powerbrokers that it could be time to cash in on their prize asset while he is at the peak of his playing career.

=>"It az to be final as Wales power on at a rate of Gigg-a-bites!"
Ryan Giggs edged Wales a step closer to their footballing dream with a dazzling display that keeps Mark Hughes and his boyos well on course for Portugal next summer. The Manchester United star scored one and made two others as Wales pulverised pitiful Azerbaijan to maintain their 100 per cent record at the top of Group 9. The Millennium Stadium went wild with delight as Wales maintained their stunning form to pile more pressure on group rivals Italy. There has never been a better time to be a Welsh football fan - and punters, players and management alike are determined to ride the magic carpet as long as they can. And having waited so long for a sniff of glory Wales aren´t wasting a moment - as a packed and jubilant Millennium Stadium can testify.

=>"Talking Turkey"
Goal heroes David Beckham and Michael Owen last night issued a passionate rallying call to England as they head into Wednesday´s crunch showdown with Turkey. The England captain admitted that they will need to show a massive improvement against the Group Seven leaders if they are to take a big step towards automatic qualification for the Euro 2004 finals in Portugal. After scoring the second in the 2-0 win in Vaduz, Beckham said: "We need to step up on that against Turkey if we are to get a result. "We know we have to sharpen up. We gave Liechtenstein too many chances in the first half and, hopefully, that won´t happen against Turkey. But I thought our performance was quite professional tonight."
