" ManUtd.com Exclusive: David Bellion"
ManUtd.com journalist Ben Hibbs was first to speak to David Bellion after completing his move to Manchester United. The speedy attacker was visibly ecstatic at having put pen to paper on a four-year deal...
Welcome to Manchester United, David. How does it feel to have finally signed?
I am really delighted. When you are young you always dream of playing for a club like this. I am really happy and can´t wait for the start of the season. I am looking forward to training next week and being a Manchester United player. It’s fantastic.
Your transfer seemed to take a while to happen, did you ever think you had missed out on the move?
This is life. I had four or five months to wait but it’s ok, I just trained hard and worked hard. It took a while but it’s done now so I am just really happy.
What are your first impressions of the club and the stadium?
It’s unbelievable. It is the greatest club in the world. It’s amazing to know you play for this club. I went to Carrington [United’s training ground] and it’s a fantastic training ground. I am going to do my best for the club.
You must be desperate to get out on the pitch…
I can’t wait! When you see this kind of stadium, you can’t wait.
Which United player are you most looking forward to playing alongside?
When I was a kid I used to like Ryan Giggs a lot. I like his pace and the way he runs. I used to watch the team on TV and now can I play alongside the players, so it’s fantastic for me. I’m looking forward to playing with everyone here - Manchester United have a lot of the best players in the world.
You have played as a winger and a striker, but what is your preferred position?
I feel comfortable as a forward because of the way I play. I like to score goals but I don’t mind if I have to play as a winger, a striker or just behind the striker.
You are still young, so what aspects of your game do you hope to improve on while you are at United?
The experience comes first because I didn’t play too many games in the Premiership for Sunderland. The tactical side of the game is important, but you can learn everyday. Even the very best players in the world have to learn every day.
You have played Premiership football, so do you consider that to be an advantage?
Yes, it has given me a little bit of experience. I started five times last season and I played in the Derby game [against Newcastle], but now it’s different. It’s different because this is a massive club that is known all over the world. I have to be ready and stay focused on my mind, on my body, so those are things that I am looking to work on.
Is playing in the Champions League one of the highlights of coming to Old Trafford?
Yes, it’s the best to competition to play in so I am looking forward to it.
And finally, do you have a message to Manchester United’s fans?
I am really delighted be here. I want to work hard and give 100% for the club and score as many goals as I can. I hope to see the supporters soon.
" Who is David Bellion?"
Manchester United today announced the signing of David Bellion, and here ManUtd.com introduces you to the pacy French attacker.
Born in Paris on 27 November 1982, Bellion joined Cannes at the age of 14 and was at the club at the same time as Patrick Vieira.
Having attracted the attention of a host of clubs throughout Europe, the Frenchman eventually signed for Sunderland - then managed by Peter Reid - in the summer of 2001 on a Bosman free transfer.
Impressing quickly he made his Premiership debut in August of season 2001/2002 at Fulham, coming on as a substitute
The Frenchman´s first senior goal came against Aston Villa in September of last season, a strike that turned out to be the match-winner.
Bellion doesn´t come to Old Trafford inexperienced in England´s top-flight. The speedy striker has started five times in the Premiership for Sunderland, and also made 15 substitute appearances in the league.
Bellion was linked with a move to United during the January transfer window six months ago, but a deal failed to materialise. However, the striker, who has bags of potential, has finally signed on the dotted line for the Reds.
" Bellion agrees Old Trafford move"
Bellion describes joining Man Utd as a dream move
French winger David Bellion has signed a four-year deal with Manchester United.
The 20-year-old´s contract with Sunderland expired on 30 June, leaving him free to walk away from the Stadium of Light.
Bellion said: " I am really excited to be joining Manchester United. When you are young they are one of the clubs you dream of playing for.
" I am ready to work hard and give 100% to United, and I´m already focused on the new season ahead."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, said: " It has been a long process to complete this deal.
" We did not know whether David would go abroad or come to us, and we are delighted he has chosen Manchester United.
" He is a young player with great potential who will fit into the club´s future plans very well."
United were linked with Bellion throughout last season, before Ferguson described the deal as " dead" after having a £1.5m bid rejected in January.
Sunderland wanted nearer £3m for the French Under-21 international, who made an impression in the Premiership with his pace.
Although he departs on a free transfer, the Black Cats may be entitled to compensation under the Bosman ruling, as the player is under 23.
But length of service is paramount in any tribunal and his two-year stay at Sunderland may not be long enough to demand a significant fee.
" Man Utd ´to discuss Ronaldinho´"
Ronaldinho is United´s top summer target
Paris St Germain will talk to Manchester United on Wednesday to find out if they are serious about bringing Ronaldinho to the Premiership.
PSG president Francis Graille said he intended to speak to Old Trafford chief executive Peter Kenyon on the telephone.
The French club have slapped a £31m price tag on the Brazilian forward - more than double what the Premiership champions had wanted to pay for Ronaldinho.
" We have to call each other tomorrow morning to arrange a meeting," said Graille on Tuesday.
" I would like to meet him [Peter Kenyon] because I want things to be clear.
" I want Manchester United to tell me face-to-face what the situation is about Ronaldinho.
" At the moment there is only Ronaldinho´s brother [and agent Roberto Assis] who is talking about Manchester United and so far I have not received any offer from them.
" If they make an offer we´ll see what happens. Unlike what is being said, PSG don´t need money."
United are understood to have already agreed personal terms with Ronaldinho.
Negotiations are still ongoing between clubs but things are going well as we had hoped for
Ronaldinho´s agent and brother
Roberto Assis
But the Old Trafford club were hoping to sign the 23-year-old for a fee in the region of £14m - if they were to pay £31m it would be a British record transfer fee.
Furthermore, Graille revealed both Barcelona and Real Madrid have made offers for the player.
" Real propose 35million euros ( £24m) to have Ronaldinho in a year, and to pay a third as early as today," Graille told Le Parisien newspaper.
" At the moment there is an offer from Real, who proposed a deal in two steps, and an offer from Barcelona, who proposed money and some players.
Assis had earlier insisted Ronaldinho is happy with the deal to take him to Old Trafford.
The player´s brother and agent indicated that the World Cup-winning star had no problems with the personal terms on offer at United.
Ronaldinho fits Ferguson´s bill
Ronaldinho is under contract to PSG until 2006, and Assis said: " The most difficult thing is for the clubs ( PSG and United) to reach an agreement.
" We have no problems. Ronaldinho is calm. Whatever happens he has a good contract with PSG.
" He is currently in Brazil on holiday but he is eager to see what is going to happen regarding his transfer.
" Negotiations are still ongoing between clubs but things are going well as we had hoped for."

United try Ron again
Sir Alex Ferguson is trying to complete the signing of Brazilian superstar Ronaldinho today - to upstage David Beckham´s spectacular unveiling at Real Madrid. Manchester United boss Ferguson wants the last laugh on Beckham by capturing top transfer target Ronaldinho and he was desperately trying to push through a £14million deal with Paris Saint Germain last night. PSG president Francis Graille increased the pressure yesterday by demanding a ludicrous £31m for the Brazilian World Cup winner, but will be holding final talks with Old Trafford chief executive Peter Kenyon in Paris this afternoon. Graille said: " I would like to meet him because I want things to be clear. I want Manchester United to tell me face-to-face what the situation is about Ronaldinho. So far I have not received any offer from them. If they make an offer we´ll see what happens."

United’s top team sent to get their man
Manchester United will send high-powered negotiators to Paris to Paris today as they try to rescue their bid to sign Ronaldinho. Sportsmail understands United chief executive Peter Kenyon, managing director David Gill and the club’s top lawyer, Maurice Watkins, will attempt to seal the Brazil striker’s transfer in a meeting with Paris Saint Germain. United are believed to be worried about being pipped by Real Madrid as PSG claim to have an agreement with the Spanish champions, who have already recruited David Beckham and Carlos Queiroz from the Manchester club.

" Troussier ou Cantona à MU ? " ( L´equipe.fr)
