Reality check. Rooney and Berbatov arent a good partnership. Two quality individual players, but put them together and they arent enough of a goal threat.
Berbatov needs a proper number 9 next to him doing all the things a quality number 9 will do. Chasing lost causes all day and playing on the shoulder non-stop.
Rooney isnt that player.
The only time Liverpool looked nervous in the match was after Owen came on. In fact I think our only shots in the second half came after Owen and Nani came on. Owen setting up Valencia off the bar and then worrying Carragher enough to do what should have seen him sent off.
With Berbatov and Rooney, Liverpool were very very comfortable. And they arent the first side.
There were lots of individual errors moving further back. Rio out muscled by the biggest diver on the pitch, VDS backing away and leaving him a big target to aim at instead of closing him down. O'Shea making the second goal extremely easy and Vidic for his sending off. But our lack of goal threat was the biggest worry for me because we know that on form our defence is the best in the business. Its proven against top sides. Berbatov and Rooney is anything but.
