" Rio remembers Foe"
Reds defender Rio Ferdinand has paid tribute to his former West Ham team-mate Marc Vivien Foe, who died while playing for Cameroon on Thursday night.
Foe spent just over a year with Rio at Upton Park with Rio, and the centre-back hopes that his death can be used to highlight the amount of games players play.
" I´m not sure the reasons how this has come about but this is big talking point that needs to be looked into," he told Sky Sports News.
" I think players do need to recharge. This my longest break since I have been a professional and that´s because I´ve been injured.
" I feel very recharged. I have had four weeks off but a lot of professionals don´t get four weeks off.´´
Rio called the validity of the Confederations Cup, the tournament Foe was playing in, into question.
" I don´t think the competition is worthwhile. It´s not a World Cup or European Championship. Why do we need another one?"
But for now, Rio just wants to pay tribute to a good friend and a good player.
" I will remember him as a great professional, a loveable guy who never had a bad word to say about anyone.´
