Robinson could be reunited with former boss O´Leary
Leeds are reported to have accepted an improved offer from Aston Villa for young England goalkeeper Paul Robinson.
Leeds turned down an initial approach from former manager David O´Leary, who offered in the region of £2.75m.

But an increased offer, believed to be £3.25m, has been accepted by cash-strapped Leeds.

Carlos Queiroz has heaped praise on Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson after taking over at Real Madrid.

" He is a man of magnitude which is beyond comparison," said Ferguson´s former right-hand man at Old Trafford.

" He is a real football person. More than that, he is football."

Queiroz, who replaces Vicente del Bosque at the Bernabeu, spent just a season working alongside Ferguson.

But the 50-year-old Portuguese is clearly a big fan of the Scot.

" He has some human qualities which are unknown," said Queiroz, who played a key role in helping United claim the Premiership crown.

" He has all of my respect and I have a lot of admiration for Manchester United. They are a great club.

" Without a man like Sir Alex I wouldn´t have learnt as much."

Kluivert has said he wants to stay at Barcelona
Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert is locked in talks with Barcelona about his future at the club.
The Catalan giants want the 26-year-old to agree to reduce his wage, believed to be about £4.2m a year.

Kluivert´s contract does not expire until 2005 but there is a clause which allows Barcelona to halve his annual salary.

According to reports in the Spanish press the Dutch international is not willing to accept a reduced wage and has threatened to quit the club.

" If they want to cut my salary then they´ll have a problem," Kluivert was quoted as saying in the Mundo Deportivo newspaper.

Kluivert denies Man Utd move
Kluivert´s agent Sigi Lens has stirred speculation by linking the Dutch international with a move to Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

The striker insisted last month that he wanted to stay at Barcelona despite their disappointing run in La Liga and subsequent failure to qualify for the Champions League.
It is the first time that Kluivert has sat down for negotiations with new Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
It has been suggested that the appointment of fellow Dutchman Frank Rijkaard as the Barcelona coach could persuade Kluivert to see out his contract at the Nou Camp.

Veron wants to stay at United
Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has pledged his future to Manchester United after recent reports linking him with a return to Italy.

Veron - who cost £28m when he arrived from Lazio two years ago - was quoted as saying recently that he would be back in Serie A this summer.

But the 28-year-old insisted he was staying at Old Trafford and declared his intention to help United win the European Cup this season.

" Right now my only thoughts are of United, and my aim is to improve my game," said Veron.

" My first year at the club was so-so but in the second we won the Premiership title. Now I want to return to winning important trophies in Europe.

" I know one day I will return to play in Italian football. But I am not planning to do so for the time being."

Veron, who has had a mixed career at United despite playing a part in their title triumph last season, has three years left on his contract.

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson seems set to give Fabien Barthez a second chance.

The erratic goalkeeper was dropped by Ferguson towards the end of last season and the United manager was believed to be ready to sell him.

But there have been no offers for the Frenchman and, despite buying American Tim Howard, Ferguson is to give Barthez another go.

" It was tough psychologically being number two but I´m not the boss," said the 31-year-old.

" But I never worry about what people think. The only person I have anything to prove to is myself."

" Both sides dismiss Vieira story"

Manchester United have dismissed reports linking them with Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira.

The story that the Reds were preparing to bid £22million for the French midfielder was splashed across the back page of Wednesday´s Daily Mirror, and there was a similar article in The Guardian. By some coincidence, a rumour about Vieira, citing an Arsenal source, appeared on one of the United fanzine sites on Tuesday.

Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein mirrored the response from Old Trafford when he said on Wednesday morning: " There have not been any inquiries for Patrick Vieira from Manchester United, and even if there was to be an inquiry he is not for sale."

Kluivert warning
Manchester United and Arsenal were put on full alert last night after Patrick Kluivert threatened to walk out on Barcelona. The Dutch striker is angry at being asked to take a cut in his £5 million pay deal and made it clear he would not accept a reduction. Barca´s move may mean Kluivert leaving on the cheap.
