" Geremi set for Premiership return"
Exclusive by Stuart Roach
Geremi spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough
Manchester United will turn their attentions to Cameroon international midfielder Geremi once Ronaldinho has decided on his own future, BBC Sport has learned.
United are battling with Barcelona to sign Brazil World Cup star Ronaldinho as Sir Alex Ferguson makes the Paris St Germain player his number one priority.
But when those negotiations end, Geremi´s British representative hopes to resurrect a deal for the 24-year-old Cameroonian.
Geremi was offered to Manchester United as part of the deal that took David Beckham to the Bernabeu, but Ferguson was only interested in a cash deal.
But with Beckham´s £25m arrival making Geremi´s place in the Real first team even more unlikely, a new deal is on the cards.
" I am hoping there may be a deal to be done with Manchester United but we have got a long way to go," said Barry Silkman, who is representing the player´s interests in England.
" United´s priority is Ronaldinho and it is between them and Barcelona for his signature.
" Until his future is decided, I don´t think United are prepared to talk about Geremi."
Real Madrid insist they want more than £10m for the player, though they could ultimately accept as little as £6m for a player who is unlikely to figure in their first-team plans next season.
GEREMI CAREER STATISTICS
Real Madrid: 63 games, 1 goal
Middlesbrough ( loan):
34 games, 7 goals
Cameroon: 57 caps, 1 goal
That may tempt Manchester United but is still too high for Middlesbrough, where Geremi played 34 times in a loan spell last season.
But another Premiership club are also keen to raise the funds to snatch Geremi at a knock-down price.
" The way things are at the moment, that ( £6m) would be a really good fee, but even at that price I don´t think Middlesbrough are in a position to buy him," said Silkman.
" There is another Premiership club who we are speaking to but they are not in a position to buy until they can sell."
But that mystery bidder is not Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri, who attempted to sign the midfielder last summer, only to be put off by Real Madrid´s high valuation of the player.
Ranieri has been told he must offload players before bringing in new faces, but is unlikely to raise the funds needed to land Geremi.
Silkman insists Geremi would jump at the chance of returning to the Premiership should Real decide to recoup some of the money they laid out for Beckham.
Geremi demands Real madrid showdown talks
" He´s happy to be a Real Madrid player, but not if he is not playing.
" Beckham´s deal does not change anything as far as Manchester United and Real Madrid are concerned, but for Geremi it does make it harder to get in the side."
Geremi captained Cameroon to the Olympic football title in Sydney 2000, has won two African Nations Cups and is currently starring in their Confederations Cup campaign.
He also boasts two European Cup winners´ medals with Real Madrid but is finding himself increasingly frozen out at the Bernabeu.
Geremi was offered to Manchester United as part of the deal that took David Beckham to the Bernabeu, but Ferguson was only interested in a cash deal.

Beckham´s facing Real trouble
Angry Real Madrid players led by striker Raul demanded a showdown with the club after their privacy was destroyed when David Beckham signed last week. Sunday Express Sport can today reveal the full extent of the hostility in the Real dressing room towards Beckham in the light of the media frenzy which has disturbed their preparations for tonight´s attempt to land the Spanish title. Raul, the most influential player at the club, was furious when he discovered paparazzi had been camped at his home trying to question wife Mamen when he was away at the training ground.

There is life after Beckham
The whole world will witness scenes of mass hysteria in ten days when David Beckham is paraded for the first time as Real Madrid´s new £25m superstar. But just 48 hours before that July media explosion, Martin Edwards will slip out the directors´ door at Old Trafford for the last time. His exit, after 23 years at the head of the mahogany boardroom table that´s been used to sign away £200m of transfer dealings, will go unnoticed apart from a few nods of recognition from passers-by.

Fergie planned to snare Figo using Beckham as a pawn
Sir Alex Ferguson came close to selling David Beckham three years ago in a clandestine swap deal that almost brought Luis Figo to Old Trafford. It was the season after Manchester United had won the Champions League and the ambitious Ferguson wasn´t sitting back admiring his handiwork, especially with his growing irritation over the circus which was developing around Beckham and his lifestyle.

Martin Edwards on: Superstar Scholesie
I would hate to see Paul Scholes leave. The two players who won the title for us last season were Paul and Ruud van Nistelrooy. We would not have won it without them. I remember Brian Kidd telling me in 1994 that of all the bright stars coming though, young Scholes would be the best. Kiddo said he wouldn´t mature as quickly as the others but would be the next Kenny Dalglish. I don´t like to single players out but you have to in Paul´s case.

Martin Edwards on: Ferguson´s dark days
I remember January 1990 and an FA CUp third round tie at Nottingham Forest. It hadn´t been going well for Sir Alex and I called him into my office the day before and said: " It doesn´t matter about the result tomorrow, you are not going to lose your job."

Stabbed
David Beckham´s dad last night accused Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson of stabing his son in the back. Ted Beckham launched the astonishing attack on Fergie, claiming he had forced his son into a £25million move to Real Madrid. Ted said: " From the day I met Alex Ferguson he has had my full support, my full respect. But this time he has gone too far, he´s got it wrong.

He´s Gunner come Beck
David Beckham says he will finish his career in the Premiership, but it will not be with Manchester United. The Old Trafford club rejected the chance to ask for a buy-back clause as part of his transfer to Real Madrid. And that means Beckham´s next appearance in the top flight in England could be in an Arsenal shirt.
