Van der Sar - Could do little about Rodriguez’ opener or the late equaliser but was solid in between, making a couple of important saves and crucial interventions. 7
Evra - Couldn’t get forward as much as he’d like simply because Porto were so threatening on the counter attack. 6
Vidic - United looked as rocky with him as they did without him against Villa, with the big Serbian failing to assert himself in a rearguard that is suffering a crisis of confidence. 6
Evans - Nightmare start, gifting chances first to Lisandro and then Rodriguez to open the scoring inside the opening four minutes. 5
O’Shea - Allowed to get forward more than Evra and always looking to provide a cross or make something happen. 7
Fletcher - The most effective of United’s midfield, showing willingness to carry the fight to Porto, but not always to the best effect. 7
Carrick - The England midfielder hasn’t looked his usual self in recent weeks. Rarely found the incisive pass United craved, nor the calm head to quell a rampant Porto midfield. 6
Scholes - United were crying out for someone to keep hold of possession, but not even their best passer could help them seize control. 6
Park - United’s most inventive player from out wide, but rarely managed to provide telling crosses. One second half effort forced Helton into action. 6
Ronaldo - Sloppy on a number of occasions and too willing to hit the floor under the close attention of Porto. Showed more threat in the second half – but not much. 6
Rooney - Was clinical in firing past Helton and was as industrious and inventive as ever as a central striker. Brlliant flick for Tevez’ goal. 8
Subs
Giggs (for Park 59) - Gave United a threat they’d lacked for much of the match. 7
Tevez (for Scholes 72) - So nearly the hero with his late goal. 7
Neville (for Evans 72) - Showed more attacking threat in 18 minutes than any of the defenders who started the match. 7
