Leeds urge Kewell to stay
Kewell is being chased by a host of clubs
Leeds chairman John McKenzie insists the club will do all it can to hang on to star player Harry Kewell.
The Australian forward has again been strongly linked to Manchester United and Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger reportedly ready to offer Ray Parlour plus cash in exchange for Kewell.
Leeds are still in financial difficulty, with debts in the region of £80m after over-stretching themselves under former chairman Peter Ridsdale
Man City wait on Uefa fate
Keegan faces an anxious wait
Manchester City will learn on 3 June whether they will be playing in the Uefa Cup next season via the Fair Play table.
Although Kevin Keegan´s side only finished fifth in the Premiership Fair Play table, the four sides above them - Manchester United, Newcastle, Chelsea and Liverpool - have all already qualified for Europe.
But City´s place in the Uefa Cup is dependant on England finishing top of the overall table.
Charlton calls for Man Utd change
Charlton believes more emphasis should be on defence
Sir Bobby Charlton admits that Manchester United may need to alter their approach if they are to ever win the Champions League again.
" We are nearly there," said Charlton who is a former Old Trafford player and now a director at the club.
" We are finding qualification for the latter stages easier than we used to.
" But it is a long competition and sometimes you can get carried away."
United were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid and Charlton suggests some of their defensive weaknesses are to blame.
Madrid´s own back-line deficiencies were also exposed when they were beaten by Italian team Juventus who will play fellow Italians AC Milan in the final.
Serie A sides are renowned for the defensive abilities and Charlton believes United should learn the lessons of this season.
" If we have to bend a little to conform to the European way of playing, maybe it is something we have to look at."
=>Et me*** " Rio crocked"
Manchester United have made the following statement regarding Rio Ferdinand´s knee injury:
" Rio Ferdinand’s left knee was examined today and following discussions between the Manchester United medical team and the England doctor it was felt to be in Rio’s best interests that he undergo an arthroscopy at the beginning of next week.
" As a result, he will be unavailable for the next two England games."
Rio will miss the friendly against Serbia-Montenegro and the Euro 2004 qualifer against Slovakia.
" Lamar urges Reds to hold on to Fabien"
Former French number one Bernard Lamar has urged Manchester United to keep hold of Fabien Barthez.
If rumours are to be believed, the Frenchman is heading out of Old Trafford, but Fabien’s French international predecessor says United should give him another chance.
“Fabien is one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” Lamar told SkySports.
The former French international says if United were to let Barthez go, there are only a few goalkeepers in the world who could replace his fellow countryman.
”In the market at the moment, who do you have?"asked Lamar. " There is Toldo and Buffon, but who are the others?”
Having briefly been with West Ham, Lamar knows what it takes to play in the top flight in England and he believes the Reds should hang on to their enigmatic shot-stopper.
”Manchester United have to give him another chance,” Lamar said.

Today´s newspapers, tomorrow´s fish and chip paper... in this regular feature, we round up the United stories in England´s famously reuseable tabloids.
Pat and I can rule world
Goal machine Ruud van Nistelrooy believes that Manchester United would have the greatest strike partnership EVER if they can land Patrick Kluivert. Van Nistelrooy knows his Dutch international team-mate Kluivert could be open to offers this summer if Barcelona try to slash his £4million salary. And he reckons the rest of Europe would be at United´s mercy with Kluivert playing alongside him. Van Nistelrooy, 26, who hit 44 goals for the Premiership champions last season, said: " We could be the best scoring partnership in the world. " We love working together and I would love it even more if we could practise together every day and play together at club level. We will be a fantastic partnership. Sometimes when Patrick and I play together it is just ´there´ between us and that is the time you feel how special football can be for fans and players.

Beckhams dazzle NY
David and Victoria Beckham turned the glamour to overdrive as they step out in New York in their campaign to conquer the US. Becks wore a black dinner suit but matched it with a T-shirt and bling bling chains. Posh showed off her slim frame and new smaller boobs in a figure-hugging gold number. Britain’s premier couple were all dressed up to go to a swish Vogue magazine party at New York’s new Soho House venue.

Ruud on mission to lift Champions League
Now that he has shot Manchester United back to the title, Ruud van Nistelrooy is convinced the Reds are one step away from recovering the Champions League trophy too. Following United´s greatest-ever Premiership win, the champagne has been flowing as plentifully as the plaudits in honour of the striker´s 44-goal haul this season. But van Nistelrooy still has the bitter taste of European defeat to Real Madrid in his mouth. And the Dutchman has vowed to make the improvements to his game that will put right that disappointment next season. The 26-year-old striker said: " I was happy with the number of goals I had scored last season but I was not happy with the level I was playing at. I had some good games but I was not consistent enough. I felt good against Real. The second half of the first leg was a great performance from us. Overall we played well against Real Madrid and also against Juventus in our group. " We beat them twice and we also beat Real once at home so we know we are not far away from going all the way in the Champions League. But we also know that we have to make another step. It is a small step but the hardest step to make."

Sven Euro plan goes down Rio
Sven Goran Eriksson´s worst England fears were confirmed last night when Rio Ferdinand was ruled out of next week´s friendly with Serbia and Montenegro and the Euro 2004 qualifier with Slovakia. The Manchester United defender will undergo a cleaning-up operation on his left knee next week after aggravating a long-standing injury in last week´s win over South Africa. And while Eriksson received some welcome good news on Wayne Rooney, it leaves him having to field a makeshift central defensive partnership in the key game against Slovakia with Sol Campbell, Jonathan Woodgate and Wes Brown already unavailable through injury. Ferdinand´s inability to train at all during England´s six-day camp in La Manga had increased the likelihood that he would be unfit for the final two games of the international season.

I must partner Kluivert
Ruud van Nistelrooy has told Barcelona he will never move there - unless he is guaranteed to play alongside Patrick Kluivert. Manchester United´s goal machine is a £40million target for several of the candidates bidding to become Barca president. And one of the contenders in the club´s elections next month insists Dutch hitman Van Nistelrooy is interested in coming to the Nou Camp. Josep Martinez-Rovira is reported to have approached United chief executive Peter Kenyon about Van Nistelrooy. Martinez-Rovira said: " As president I will copy Real Madrid and sign the greatest player in the world each summer for the next three years - and I pray Ruud will be the first one. I was due to meet Peter Kenyon two weeks ago when he was in Barcelona but he had personal difficulties in England and had to return unexpectedly. We have stayed in touch by telephone and I have therefore been free to speak to Ruud´s agent. Ruud is very interested in leading our project to make Barcelona great again."
