I never want to leave United - Rooney

Striker Wayne Rooney says he would like to stay with Manchester United for the rest of his career.

Unsurprisingly, the 23-year-old is ‘happy’ at Old Trafford having already landed a Champions League winner’s medal and is scoring freely this season for both club and country.

Rooney failed to score his 100th career goal in the 1-1 draw against Everton on Saturday, and the warmth shown to the striker from the United fans is a major factor in his desire to stay.

“The fans at United are great. They have been with me since day one and we have a deep bond,” Rooney said in The People.

“They appreciate players who give their all for the team and that’s what I try to do, so why would I ever want to leave?”

Rooney is looking for his best-ever goals return this season, and he is pleased to be proving the critics wrong.

"I didn't take any notice when the critics were saying I wasn't improving because I have always had faith in myself and so has the manager," added Rooney.

“It would certainly be nice to get higher than 23, which is the most I’ve ever scored in a season, but I can’t see myself getting 42 like Cristiano [Ronaldo].”

Fergie questions Blatter credibility

Sir Alex Ferguson believes FIFA president Sepp Blatter is in danger of becoming an object of ridicule after his comments on Cristiano Ronaldo.

In July, Blatter said Ronaldo should be allowed to leave Manchester United for Real Madrid if he wanted, suggesting players are slaves to their clubs.

The Portuguese winger eventually stayed at Old Trafford but Ferguson has hit out at the 72-year-old.

In an interview with GQ published in The Times, the Scot said: "I think Sepp Blatter is in danger... or has reached a point now where he is being mocked within the game.

"Whether he is getting too old, I don't know.

"But things can happen to people in power. Look at some of the despots in Africa."

While denying he was likening Blatter to a dictator, he went on: "That would be ridiculous. All I'm saying is that, from a position of great power, he has uttered so many ridiculous statements that he is in danger of seriously damaging his credibility.

"So when he came out with that stuff it created a furore and rightly so, the year after the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the abolition of slavery."

The Manchester United boss also revealed he had been expecting Real to target Ronaldo following their move for Gabriel Heinze a year before.

"It was different for me because I knew it was coming, so I wasn't surprised," he added.

"When we sold Gabriel Heinze to Real Madrid we knew it was going to happen because Ronaldo was very close to Heinze.

"I knew what they were doing. I don't believe they were interested in Heinze - good player though he is.

"The end game was to get Ronaldo.

"What made it really obscene was that Madrid, as General Franco's club, had a history of being able to get whoever and whatever they wanted, before democracy came to Spain."

Il est en forme Fergie. :coeur:

Très en forme même, il critique aussi Kenyon, son départ étant une bénédiction.

En même temps, c'est pas faux, quand on rate Ronaldinho pour 3M€ il y a comme un petit problème.

United keen on goal-machine

Manchester United are highly interested in signing Hoffenheim goal-machine Vedad Ibisevic according to the player’s agent.

The Bosnian striker is on fire, and has scored 10 goals in nine Bundesliga matches so far this season

And 24-year-old Ibisevic, who failed to impose himself during his time at Paris Saint Germain, has emerged as a possible future signing for United, according to the German press.

When asked about a possible move to Old Trafford, the attacker’s agent confirmed Sir Alex Ferguson’s admiration for his client.

“We are aware of Manchester United’s interest, but Vedad remains focused on his club’s duty,” agent company Stars & Friends’ spokesman told Bild.

Nous voilà soi-disant intéressé par Ibisevic.
