PSG admit Man Utd interest
Ronaldinho is expected to leave PSG
Paris St Germain´s future president Francis Graille has claimed Manchester United requested a meeting to discuss Brazilian star Ronaldinho.
Speculation about a possible deal has been fuelled because Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was in France on Sunday to watch Monaco play Sochaux in the League Cup final.
But Graille, who takes over as PSG president next month, has denied any deal has been done.
" There´s nothing new," said Graille.
" I turned down a meeting with Manchester United officials two weeks ago.
" I am in frequent touch with Ronaldinho´s agent and brother Roberto Assis and we will not make any further statement until the end of the month."
PSG play Auxerre in the French Cup final on 31 May but are expected to lose Ronaldinho as they have failed to qualify for the Champions League.
Makelele´s u-turns on Man Utd
Makelele joined Real Madrid from Celta Vigo
Real Madrid midfielder Claude Makelele has performed a u-turn by insisting he is no interest in signing for Manchester United.
Makelele was subject of speculation linking him with the Premiership club and was quoted in the News of the World as saying: " I´d love to go and play for Manchester United.
The combative French international initially claimed: " They have been in contact with my representatives and I´d love to go there.
" I will say yes if an offer comes in."
Makaay favours Man Utd switch
But the Frenchman has now distanced himself from the speculation.
He told Spanish newspaper Diario AS: " My representatives have not been speaking to Manchester United and I don´t want to play for Manchester United."
Madrid´s director of sport Jorge Valdano also poured cold water on thoughts of any deal with United.
Valdano said: " He is not going to leave Madrid because he has a contract here until 2006,"
Makelele has been described as Real´s most influetial player by team-mates Zinedine Zidane and Steve McManaman.
Last week Real missed Makelele´s stabilising influence in midfield as the European Cup holders crashed out of the Champions League at Juventus.
He joined the Primera Liga side from Celta Vigo for £10m three years ago, having previously played for French side Nantes
" Sir Alex on transfer targets"
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed there will be “two or three” signings at Old Trafford this summer.
However, the United boss admitted there wouldn’t be the wholesale changes some had predicted earlier in the season.
“There won’t be massive dealings,” Sir Alex said. “But hopefully there will be two, maybe three, that will come in.”
And the United manager says the summer targets have already been identified. He said: “We’ve got ideas and we are hoping to pursue them.”
The news comes at a time when United chief executive Peter Kenyon has also revealed there will be “new faces” at the club by the start of season 2003/04.
Kenyon said: " We will start next season with some new faces. There are funds available this year but when you look at our team it is about tweaking rather than massive rebuild."
The summer promises to be a busy time for United off the field.
Reds in for Ronaldinho?
Paris St Germain have denied rumours that their Brazilian forward Ronaldino is on his way to Manchester United.
Francis Graille takes over as PSG chairman next month and he says, despite press speculation to the contrary, that no deal is imminent.
Graille is quoted as saying in The Sun: " I turned down a meeting requested by the representatives of Manchester United a fortnight ago. There is nothing more to say about it.
" I am in frequent touch with Ronaldinho´s agent and brother Roberto Assis and we will not make any further statement until the end of the month," he added.

Fergie kept waiting for Ronaldinho
Manchester United will be kept waiting in their bid to land Brazilian star Ronaldinho. Alex Ferguson’s Premiership champions had hoped to negotiate a quick £10million deal with Paris St Germain. But Francis Graille, who takes over as PSG’s chairman next month, insists their approach is on the back burner. He revealed: “I turned down a meeting requested by the representatives of Manchester United a fortnight ago.” But many believe Graille is resigned to losing the frontman. PSG are out of the running for a Champions League place next season. And Ronaldinho, 23, is expected to seek a move after they play in the French Cup final against Auxerre on May 31. United boss Ferguson will hope for better luck n the transfer market than he had in Paris at the weekend. Fergie went to watch Saturday night´s French League Cup final between Monaco and Sochaux. But he had to wait outside the Stade de France because his ticket had been left in the French League offices.

Fortune is Bok in the spotlight
Premiership stars Quinton Fortune, Lucas Radebe and Shaun Bartlett were last night named in the South African squad to face England. But the trio only made it after a NEW coach named a NEW squad for the game. They got the nod after World Cup coach Jomo Sono was brought in to take temporary charge of the team. Sono replaced regular coach Shakes Mashaba for the game in Durban after the latter refused to change his original 24-man squad despite requests from officials leading the country’s 2010 World Cup bid.

Stay and fight United
Arsene Wenger stunned his superstars by delivering a Winston Churchil-style speech after their FA Cup triumph. The Arsenal boss made a rousing, emotion-filled plea late on Saturday night, begging the Gunners’ key men to stick around and fight Manchester United next season. Wenger spoke at the celebration bash in the team hotel after the 1-0 final triumph over Southampton at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. Outgoing coach Bob Wilson revealed: “Arsene stood up and found great words to say to the players. He told them ‘We want you to stay together. We need you around to challenge Manchester United again’.”
