Champions!

Click to e-mail your congratulations
Manchester United have been crowned the 2002/03 Premiership Champions after Arsenal failed to beat Leeds United at Highbury on Sunday afternoon.
United started the day eight points clear of the Gunners after their 4-1 win over Charlton at Old Trafford, meaning Arsene Wenger´s men had to beat Leeds - but they lost 3-2 to the Yorkshiremen in a thriller at Highbury.
That leaves Arsenal eight points behind us with them only having two games left to play. The title, having looked a distant prospect a couple of months ago, is back at Old Trafford!
It´s the fifteenth League title in United history, and the eighth in the last eleven seasons. Watch out Liverpool - we´re catching you up!
Congratulations to all the players, management and backroom staff who had a hand in the Championship triumph. The lads will be presented with the trophy after the match against Everton at Goodison Park next Sunday.
It´s party time!

Man Utd clinch title
United collected their eighth title without playing
Manchester United were crowned Premiership winners on Sunday after Arsenal lost at home to Leeds.
Goals from Harry Kewell, Ian Harte and Mark Viduka helped earn Leeds win 3-2 at Highbury and hand the title to Manchester United.
Arsenal twice came back from behind with goals from Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, but Viduka killed the game off with an 88th minute strike.
Match report: Arsenal 2-3 Leeds
A draw would have been enough to end Arsenal´s Premiership dream as the Gunners went into the game eight points behind their rivals and needing a victory to keep up their hopes of retaining the crown.

Manchester United, who trailed the Gunners by eight points as recently as March, had heaped the pressure on Arsene Wenger´s side by beating Charlton 4-1 on Saturday.
Ruud van Nistelrooy scored a hat-trick for Ferguson´s side, who are champions again after going without silverware last season.
Match report: Man Utd 4-1 Charlton
It is the eighth title in 11 years for United, who travel to Everton for their final game of the season.
Arsenal are at home to Southampton before finishing their league campaign with a long trip to Sunderland, but the FA Cup final represents their last chance for a trophy this season.
They face Southampton at Cardiff on 17 May.

Arsenal 2-3 Leeds
Have your say on the 606 Premiership page
Mark Viduka hammered the final nail in Arsenal´s title coffin as the Gunners surrendered their crown in a thrilling Highbury showdown.
Viduka bent home a brilliant winner two minutes from time to finally end Arsenal´s challenge and shrug off the ugly shadow of relegation which has hung over Leeds this season.
In a remarkable match, Leeds led three times to make a mockery of their league position.
Harry Kewell and Ian Harte twice put Leeds in front to keep Arsenal on the back foot in a game they needed to win to keep alive their dream of retaining the title.
Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp hauled Arsenal level on both occasions, but Peter Reid´s strugglers had the final say.
Viduka appeared to be offside when he received the ball in the 89th minute, but he pushed on regardless and bent a shot beyond David Seaman and into the far corner.
That was the perfect spotlight on a pivotal game, in which Arsenal needed a bright start to ease the nerves that have infested Highbury in recent weeks.
The last thing they needed was to go a goal down.
HIGHBURY GOAL WATCH
5 mins: Kewell smashes stunning opener
30 mins: Henry nods into an empty net
49 mins: Harte free-kick restores Leeds´ advantage
62 mins: Bergkamp´s neat finish levels scores once more
88 mins: Viduka chips Seaman for dramatic winner
Gilberto Silva headed against the crossbar from a Robert Pires corner in the third minute and the woodwork was still wobbling when Kewell struck.
Jason Wilcox played a long ball over the Arsenal defence and Kewell chested the ball down and slipped between Martin Keown and Oleg Luzhny before slamming an unstoppable left-foot shot beyond the despairing dive of David Seaman.
The Australian winger should have added a second on 12 minutes when Mark Viduka sent him scampering clear down the right.
But Kewell hesitated and had to drag the ball wide of Seaman before slamming a shot into the side netting with his weaker right foot.
The let-off inspired Arsenal, who have not failed to score a Premiership goal at Highbury for more than two years.
They never looked likely to rewrite that statistic though as chances began to flow freely.
Wenger sees his side surrender their Premiership crown
Paul Robinson was tested by a low Henry effort which served as a warning shot that Arsenal were quick to follow up.
This time, Robinson could only palm a low Ray Parlour effort onto the inside of a post and the ball bounced back invitingly for Henry to head into the empty net.
Michael Duberry scrambled a shot off the line from the impressive Parlour and Wiltord had an effort ruled out for offside after Henry´s shot had struck wood once more.
But Arsenal´s tempo was interrupted by half-time and Leeds snatched back the initiative as they begun the second half the way they had started the first.

Man Utd - Pld 37 Pts 80
Arsenal - Pld 36 Pts 72
Ashley Cole was adjudged to have fouled Viduka and Harte slammed a low free-kick beyond Seaman with the aid of a double deflection off Cole and Gilberto.
It was the third successive season in which Harte has scored a Premiership goal at Highbury, but none have proved as crucial as this.
Wiltord wasted a free far-post header before Bergkamp hauled Arsenal level again with his first Premiership goal at Highbury this season.
Pires was the architect, slicing his way through the penalty area and cutting the ball back for Bergkamp to slam home with the outside of his right boot.
The Dutchman nearly added another midway through the second half but saw his curling effort drift wide from the edge of the area.
In such delicately balanced situations, an inch either way can decide futures in an instant.
And a tension-fuelled final 15 minutes had the perfect example of a single season in 60 seconds.
Kewell saw a low shot brilliantly palmed away by David Seaman at one end, before Arsenal broke swiftly to the other end where Henry bent a delightful shot that smacked against the foot of a post.
Leeds survived - a word that was underlined by Viduka two minutes from time.

Ferguson´s best yet
By Howard Nurse
Football editor
Success is sweet for Ferguson
How the title was won
Manchester United´s eighth title win in 11 years must surely rank as the greatest achievement in Sir Alex Ferguson´s glittering 17-year reign at Old Trafford.
Ferguson has vindicated his decision to carry on in the job. After United´s sticky start to the campaign, his critics said he should retire.
They claimed Ferguson was past it. How he must have scoffed at such ludicrous claims.
Finishing last season trophyless hurt everybody at the Theatre of Dreams - but Ferguson took it personally and appointed ex-Portugal and South Africa coach Carlos Queiroz as his number two to shake things up.
But the season started badly and the autumn was littered with negatives for the Old Trafford giants. Just about everything appeared to conspire against the club.
Eight points from the opening 18 was the worst return since 1989-90. United were treading water while arch-rivals Arsenal and Liverpool were flying.
Roy Keane had a valid point; United´s players were dangerously entrenched in the comfort zone.
More trouble followed when Ferguson faced false allegations of sexual harassment in South Africa and three days later Keane was given a five-match ban and a £150,000 fine for comments in his autobiography.
The Irishman also needed a hip operation which meant a long-term absence. Nicky Butt - England´s bright light at the 2002 World Cup finals - was injured too.
Ferguson´s biggest masterstroke was to put seven players under the surgeon´s knife. It was a high-risk strategy which would eventually pay handsome dividends.
The low point of the season was the 3-1 derby defeat at Manchester City in November. Ferguson read the riot act and the hairdryer was so hot it almost melted.
Ferdinand has taken time to settle in at Man Utd
But it was hard for Ferguson to legislate for the loss of form from the likes of Fabien Barthez, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes. Even David Beckham temporarily lost his ability to deliver a killer cross.
By Christmas, Arsenal were odds-on to win a second successive title. Arsene Wenger´s fanciful claim that Arsenal could go the entire season without losing enraged Ferguson.
The transfer window came and went but there was no new striker that Ferguson craved so badly.
He refused to buckle under the growing pressure, insisting nobody good enough was available and he would wait until the summer to bolster his squad.
Crucially, Ferguson never wrote his side off - even after the 2-0 FA Cup defeat at home to Arsenal in February.
Ferguson was big enough to admit to United´s deficiencies and where improvements were required - but he always remained totally focused on the positive points.
The first day of December was a turning point as the much-maligned Diego Forlan twice took advantage of some comedy goalkeeping from Jerzy Dudek to inspire United to a win 2-1 at Liverpool.

The Worthington Cup win at Burnley and the 2-0 defeat of Arsenal proved that United were indeed back on track.
The appetite was back and United were hungrier than ever to satisfy the craving of their manager.
Ferguson kept telling his players they were good enough to win the Premiership, that Arsenal had overdone talk about how good they were and that his team were still a force.
Arsenal looked certainties when they went eight points clear at the top on the day United lost the Worthington Cup final 2-0 to Liverpool.
United were fit and firing on all cylinders and embarked on a 17-match unbeaten run from Boxing Day to 3 May, which saw the Reds erode Arsenal´s seemingly impregnable lead and then overtake their title rivals.
Ruud van Nistelrooy´s phenomenal 43 goals, including 12 in seven crucial matches during the run-in, helped seal United´s championship prize.
Even the palaver surrounding David Beckham´s rumoured transfer to Real Madrid failed to distract rampant United from finishing the job.
Ferguson´s Old Trafford dynasty is now the greatest in English football history. They have equalled Liverpool´s run of eight titles in 11 years between 1975-76 and 1985-86.
The goal now for Ferguson will be to break that record next season, plus the small matter of out-gunning Madrid in the Champions League.
Ferguson will strengthen his squad this summer as he looks to raise the stakes even further next season in his relentless bid for more silverware.
While planning his team´s next assault for honours, the Scot will retreat to his villa on the Cote D´Azur and sit down with a glass of best vintage red and reflect on a Premiership campaign which for his team matured to perfection.

" Ten weeks that turned the title"
By Paul Fletcher
When Arsenal stormed eight points clear of Manchester United in early March, one bookmaker paid out on Arsene Wenger´s team retaining the title.
But that decision was to backfire as the destiny of the Premiership turned spectacularly north towards Old Trafford.
Week-by-week, Arsenal´s grip on top spot loosened as United refused to settle for second best.
Here is how it happened.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week One: 1-7 March
Arsenal beat Charlton on 2 March, to extend their lead over Man Utd at the top of the Premiership to eight points.
On the same day United lose 2-0 to Liverpool in the Worthington Cup final.
The season seems to have swung decisively towards Highbury, but United beat Leeds 2-1 on Tuesday to reduce the deficit to five points.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week Two: 8-14 March
There are no Premiership matches over the weekend, but Arsenal draw 2-2 with Chelsea in the FA Cup.
United, knocked out of the cup by the Gunners, have a week to rest and recuperate.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week Three: 15-21 March
The race for the Premiership takes a decisive turn on 15 March.
United scrape past Villa 1-0 in an early Saturday kick-off while, a couple of hours later Arsenal slip-up at Blackburn, losing 2-0.
Suddenly Arsenal´s eight point advantage is down to two points and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson can sense the Gunners stumbling.
Four days later Arsenal crash out of Europe after losing 2-1 in Valencia, a defeat which Wenger believes was a turning point in the Gunners´ season.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week Four: 22-28 March
Vieira scored the winner against Everton
United go top of the table for the first time in the season thanks to a comprehensive 3-0 win over struggling Fulham.
The pressure is now really on Wenger´s team, who have seen their eight point lead eroded in the space of just 20 days.
Arsenal meet much-improved Everton on Sunday and win 2-1 through a Patrick Vieira goal after Wayne Rooney´s equaliser had threatened disaster.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week Five: 29 March - 4 April
With Euro 2004 qualifiers taking place there are no Premiership games.
Although both managers are anxious their star players avoid injury while away, Ferguson seems visibly relaxed and is relishing the challenge of regaining the title.
Wenger has to concern himself with his team´s deteriorating form, a far cry from the scintillating football of earlier in the season.
Both men have started to exchange jibes and taunts, the media relishing this fascinating battle of wills.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week Six: 5-11 April
Toure´s own goal at Villa proved costly
United again kick-off early on Saturday 5 April, thrashing Liverpool 4-0.
Arsenal take to the field against Villa knowing they need to win to return to top spot.
But whereas United had ground out a 1-0 win at the same venue 18 days earlier, Kolo Toure inexplicably smashes the ball into his own net and the match finishes 1-1.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week Seven: 12 - 18 April
United respond to losing to Madrid in the Champions League by thrashing Newcastle 6-2 at St James´ Park, in the process finally extinguishing the Magpies´ foundering title hopes.
It is an ominous statement.
The following day Arsenal narrowly win their FA Cup semi-final against Sheffield United.
Arsenal meet United at Highbury in midweek in the match dubbed by many as the title decider.
United dominate the first half but Arsenal regroup after trailing 1-0. Wenger´s men take the lead, but the game ends 2-2.
Ferguson leaves nobody in any doubt as to his thoughts on the result as he jigs triumphantly to the United fans, with beaming smile and raised arms.
United top the Premiership by three points and although Arsenal have a game in hand, they are hit by news that Patrick Vieira could miss the rest of the season with injury.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week Eight: 19 - 25 April
It´s as you were; Arsenal beat Middlesbrough 2-0 and United beat Blackburn 3-1.
Days later United are knocked out of Europe by Real Madrid.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week Nine: 26 April - 2 May
The draw at Bolton was too much for Wenger
Arguably, the decisive Saturday. Arsenal squander a two-goal lead at Bolton in the last 10 minutes and leave with only a point.
The match was also Sol Campbell´s last of the campaign before his suspension, incurred for elbowing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, ends his season.
United respond by beating Spurs 2-0 at White Hart Lane the following day.
Arsenal present a glum face to the media, admitting that the destiny of the Premiership is no longer in their hands.
--------------------------------------------------
------------------------------
Week Ten: 3 - 11 May
United edge closer to the title by thumping Charlton 4-1 with Ruud van Nistelrooy bagging his third hat-trick of the season.
The pressure is on Arsenal who must beat Leeds to stay alive in the championship race.

Man Utd in Ruud health
By Paul Atherton
Van Nistelrooy has epitomised United´s hunger this season
Ruud van Nistelrooy´s first Premiership winner´s medal is just reward for the flying Dutchman who spearheaded Manchester United´s march on the title.
While it would be wrong to label United as a one-man team, Van Nistelrooy´s contribution of one player has stood out above any other.
The £19m striker´s 12 goals in seven successive games during the run-in helped cement United´s surge to the title after they had trailed Arsenal by eight points at the beginning of March.
His late goal at Tottenham saw him become United´s first striker since Denis Law to reach the 40-goal milestone, 40 years ago.
It is an astonishing tally, all the more so considering Van Nistelrooy´s slow start to the season.
VAN NISTELROOY´S GOALS
League: 24
FA Cup: 4
League Cup: 1
European: 14
Player profile
By the beginning of November he had scored just once from open play as United´s season got off to a stuttering start.
But any fears that the striker´s 36-goal debut season was a fluke were quickly dispelled with a run of seven goals in four games in November.
That same month Van Nistelrooy netted his 50th goal for the club against Newcastle before equalling United´s European record of 18 Champions League goals with two against Basle.
The 26-year-old embarked on a similar goal-scoring burst at the turn of the year and got his latest run under way with a stunning hat-trick against Fulham, which included a contender for goal of the season.
His third hat-trick of the campaign in the 4-1 demolition of Charlton put United in touching distance of the title.
Van Nistelrooy´s goal against Spurs was his 40th of the season
The only drawback for United is that when Van Nistelrooy is absent he leaves a big hole, one that Ferguson finds hard to fill with a single player.
Diego Forlan and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have performed admirably when called upon but United do not look the same without their Dutch talisman.
Van Nistelrooy and not, significantly, Roy Keane has epitomised United´s hunger this season.
More than any other United player, the striker was devastated to finish last season empty-handed.
And just as Keane came to symbolise Ferguson´s United in the late 90s, Van Nistelrooy is set to be the focal point of Ferguson´s side for the rest of the decade
