=>1er resume du match:

Beckham keeps Man Utd in touch
Aston Villa 0-1 Man Utd

David Beckham´s early goal was enough to ensure Manchester United kept up the pressure on leaders Arsenal at the top of the Premiership.

"The England midfielder turned home Ryan Giggs´ cross after only 10 minutes - but that was hardly the opening of the United floodgates.

In fact, Villa could - and probably should - have avoided a fourth successive Premiership defeat after carving out a series of gilt-edged chances to equalise.

Mustapha Hadji saw a hat-trick of efforts fly narrowly off target, while Darius Vassell was denied by Fabien Barthez in a stretched first half full of chances.

United set the tone inside two minutes is Beckham remarkably wasted a glorious early chance.

Ruud van Nistelrooy´s initial effort was blocked by Alan Wright and when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned the ball back in to the box, Beckham´s close-range effort was brilliantly parried by Stefan Postma.

But Beckham made up for the miss eight minutes later when he opened the scoring, stealing in ahead of Wright to poke in Ryan Giggs´ teasing cross.

Villa responded positively to the early setback, with Lee Hendrie and Hadji involved in most of their brightest moments. "

VILLA PARK MATCH FACTS
2 mins: Beckham´s close-range shot saved by Postma
10 mins: Beckham pokes home Giggs´ cross
24 mins: Vassell denied by Barthez
56 mins: Giggs´ free-kick smacks against a post
Hendrie displayed an array of tricks but lacked a finishing touch, while Hadji saw an effort fly across the face of goal, a long-range shot fly wide of the opposite post and, to complete the set, a header dip over the crossbar.

"Midway through the first half, Gareth Barry sent Vassell clean through but the England striker saw his low shot well saved by Barthez, with Dion Dublin screaming for a pass to his right.

The free-flowing football continued after the break, with United searching for a killer second goal and Villa frantically feeling for an equaliser.

Thirty seconds after the restart, Hendrie again lacked composure in front of goal when he blazed over from 12 yards, while Dublin and Wright both saw shots saved by the increasingly busy Barthez.

Giggs came within a whisker of snuffing out the Villa threat when his curling free-kick smacked against the top of a post and Hadji denied John O´Shea a first United goal when the Morroccan headed off his own goal-line.

But Villa proved hard to shake off, even though their cutting edge grew blunter as the game wore on.

Graham Taylor threw on young striker Steven Cooke in place of Dublin but the damage was already done, leaving Villa still needing one more win to feel comfortable of Premiership survival.

United, conversely, moved back on to the shoulder of Arsenal as they signalled their intent to take the title race into the final furlong. "

une petite news au passage:

LONDON, March 15 ( Reuters) - David Beckham scored the only goal as Manchester United beat Aston Villa 1-0 on Saturday to cut Arsenal´s lead at the top of the premier league to two points.

"The England captain tucked home a cross by Ryan Giggs after 12 minutes to settle an even contest at Villa Park.

The victory lifted United´s points tally to 61 from 30 games, although champions Arsenal, on 63 points, will re-establish their five-point lead if they beat Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in a match due to kick off at 1500 GMT.

In other 1500 GMT kickoffs, Mick McCarthy is set to make his debut as manager of bottom club Sunderland in a must-win clash with Bolton Wanderers at the Stadium of Light.

Third-placed Newcastle United visit Charlton Athletic and fourth-placed Everton entertain struggling West Ham United. "

=>bientot les places pour la finale de la C1....

"UEFA Champions League final tickets
Friday, 14 March 2003
Tickets for the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League final at Manchester United FC´s Old Trafford stadium on 28 May ( 20.45CET; 19.45UK) will go on sale on uefa.com on Monday 17 March.

Online applications
All applications for tickets for the final must be made online and applications will be limited to two per person. All applications received will be entered into a lottery for the tickets once applications close on 7 April 2003.

Back in England
This will be the eleventh final since the UEFA Champions League was launched, and the first to be held in England. Wembley Stadium in London hosted the 1992 European Champion Clubs´ Cup final between FC Barcelona and UC Sampdoria, on the last occasion Europe´s premier club final came to England.

First outside Wembley
England has hosted five European Cup finals previously - all played at Wembley - including the 1968 edition which United won by beating SL Benfica 4-1 after extra time to become the first English winners of the European Cup.

Home of United
Old Trafford has been United´s home since 1910 and hosted matches at the 1966 FIFA World Cup finals. United´s consistent success in the 1990s prompted major development of the stadium, raising its capacity to over 67,000."
