"Fergie in for Kewell"
"Manchester United are lining up a sensational £10m swoop for Leeds star Harry Kewell. Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson has made the Aussie striker one of his main transfer targets as he looks to rebuild his side in a bid to wrestle back the Premiership crown from Arsenal. Fergie is a huge admirer of Kewell and is confident of capturing him when the transfer window re-opens in the summer. Kewell is Leeds’ top scorer this season with 13 goals after switching to a more central role and is seen as an ideal replacement for Ryan Giggs."
Jeremy Cross, Daily Star
"The REAL Beckham"
"David Beckham has opened his heart to reveal that far from revelling in his image as celebrity fashion icon, family life and Manchester United are the driving forces in his life. The England skipper was recently dismissed as a clothes-horse rather than a thoroughbred international by Juventus. The Italian club’s vice-president launched a bitter attack on the player who brought us sarongs, nail varnish and alice bands."
David McDonnell, Daily Mirror
"I’m staying – Veron pledge on future gives Fergie Euro lift"
"Juan Veron handed Manchester United a boost ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League clash with Basel – by pledging his future to Old Trafford. The £28.1m record signing from Lazio has bounced back from the flak he suffered last year. And he aims to repay boss Alex Ferguson for his faith by steering United to a European Cup final date at their home ground on May 28. Argentine midfielder Veron, 28, admitted: “Six months ago things were not going for me as I had hoped they would. But nowadays I am very happy and I think I will see out my contract at United until summer 2006."

pr terminer les news du daily telegraph ; -)
From the Telegraph
"There was a wealth of talented young European players on show when Sir Alex Ferguson took his seat at the French First Division match between Rennes and Auxerre last weekend, but the Manchester United manager was primarily there to meet Julien Escude, the former France Under-21 defender.
The Daily Telegraph understands that Ferguson caught up with Escude after the match and was spotted deep in conversation with the left-back in the VIP area of Rennes´ stadium.
Manchester United will join Premiership rival Arsenal in bidding for Real Madrid full-back Roberto Carlos if Ryan Giggs moves to Italy, the Mail also reported.
Some old rumours being dredged up again.
Tottenham’s Welsh winger Simon Davies has joined a lengthy Manchester United summer transfer target list, says the Daily Mail. Davies is apparently wanted along with Sunderland striker David Bellion.
Newspaper reports claim Barthez is homesick and keen to return to France with his girlfriend who is expecting his first child, with Monaco a possible destination.
He has suffered from hip problems and at 31 it is thought United are unsure about his long-term future at Old Trafford.
Ferguson is rumoured to have already began his search for possible replacements for the 1998 World Cup winner.
West Ham´s David James and Sunderland´s Thomas Sorensen are said to be options should their sides be relegated. Ferguson is also thought to be a big fan of Chelsea keeper Carlo Cudicini and Turkish international Rustu Recber. "

=>Kewell pourrait prolonger a Leeds...
"Kewell deal to block United
Leeds will start contract talks with Harry Kewell next week in a bid to stave off interest from Manchester United. Kewell has yet to be offered a new deal, according to agent Bernie Mandic, despite suggestions that a £50,000-a-week pay packet over the next five seasons has been on the table since the turn of the year. Kewell has apparently told chairman Peter Ridsdale of his desire to stay at the club."

la reaction de Sir Alex:
The result
"I think we deserved the result on the second half performance. It’s difficult when you have qualified to pick a side that does you justice and makes sure no-one can point fingers at us. If you watch the game over a ninety minute period you will see the effort was good and that’s important."
Gary Neville
"Its still a goal. The important thing is that he was trying to score all the time, two or three shots and one that the goalkeeper made a good safe from. But if you don’t try you don’t score."
The youngsters
"They were very good. I am pleased with them. The young lads they will come on. Darren´s a very talented player."
Looking ahead to Deportivo
"Well I think that Juventus are through now which would take the weight off my shoulders. We will do our best though, we will always have to do our best - you saw in Cyprus when we played Maccabi Haifa we got a lot of criticism and we don’t want that."

Cudicini a target?
Date: Friday, 7th March 2003 - 12:42 GMT
Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini could be lined-up as the successor to Fabien Barthez at Manchester United.
Sir Alex Ferguson is already understood to have enquired about the young Italian´s availability and may be poised to make a move when the transfer window re-opens at the end of the season.
Chelsea´s financial plight has been well documented, and it had been widely expected that strikers Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink or Eidur Gudjonssen would be sold to balance the books.
Moves failed to materialse for either striker, and should Chelsea fail to qualify for Champions League football again this season, Cudicini´s market value, which has soared in the past two seasons after a series of match-winning displays, could see him as the man most likely to be sacrificed by the Stamford Bridge club.
With doubts emerging over the future of 31-year-old fabien barthez at united this week, Sir Alex Ferguson is monitoring the situation of one of the brightest young goalkeepers in world football closely, though Tomas Sorensen of Sunderland has been mentioned as another possible target.
But a move to Old Trafford would suit Cudicini, particularly is it offers him the stage of Champions league action as he struggles to force his way into the Italian national squad - though Arsenal will also be keeping a close watch as they trawl the market for a successor to David Seaman.
=>United ready to battle for Cisse?
Date: Tuesday, 11th March 2003 - 12:00 GMT
"Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to go head to head with Gerard Houllier in the race to sign Auxerre striker Djibril Cisse.
The Manchester United boss is believed to be ready to move in on the pacy frontman - a long-term target of Liverpool boss Houllier - and he may not be the only Frenchman heading for Old Trafford in the summer.
Ferguson has made no secret of his interest in Rennes full-back Julien Escude, with United almost landing the 22-year-old in August before the French club blocked the deal claiming it was too late to find a replacement.
The £5m-rated defender now looks likely to move to Old Trafford in the summer, but the battle for Cisse could be tougher, with both Milan giants and Barcelona also thought to be in the running.
Ferguson added to growing speculation by watching both players in action at the weekend, taking in two games during his short stay in France. Ferguson´s flying visit has also led to him being linked with Auxerre defender Philippe Mexes, and 23-year-old Finnish midfielder Teemu Tainio.
However, the United supremo insists that the sole purpose of his trip was to discuss the impending feeder-club agreement with Nantes.
´The main purpose of the visit was not to look at players," said Ferguson. ´We were trying to finalise our agreement with Nantes. I decided to watch a couple of games while I was over.´ The tabloids, naturally, aren´t buying that as the sole reason for Sir Alex´s French visit. "
