" Beckham sale rumours grow
Could Beckham be on his way to Madrid?
Manchester United have remained tightlipped amid speculation that David Beckham will join Real Madrid for £30m in the summer.
Several newspaper reports claim that Beckham has demanded a move after being dropped for the Champions League quarter-final against Real on Wednesday.
The England captain started the game on the substitutes´ bench, but scored twice after coming on midway through the second half of the 4-3 win.
Reports claim Beckham held an emergency meeting with his agent and wife Victoria at a Manchester hotel following the game.

Should Beckham stay or go?
The 27-year-old has repeatedly been linked with a move to Madrid, although both United and Real have consistently denied the rumours.
However, Beckham was said to be furious with manager Sir Alex Ferguson at his omission from the United starting line-up for such an important match.
The midfielder was also on the bench for the games against Liverpool and Arsenal as United entered the most crucial phase of their Premiership season.
Beckham´s celebrity status and the media circus which surrounds him are known to be source of huge irritation for Ferguson.
The pair have already courted the headlines this season when Ferguson famously kicked a boot at Beckham, leaving the England star with a cut eyebrow.
Real have adopted a policy of making one huge signing each summer.
And, given the depressed state of football´s finances, they are realistically the only club that could afford a transfer fee of £30m and Beckham´s £8m-a-year personal demands.
The Madrid club could make a £30m bid for Beckham once the Premiership season is over, but United are believed to want at least £35m for their prized asset.
Ferguson has already been told he must sell before he can bring new faces to Old Trafford, suggesting that United may want to cash in on Beckham.
United have been linked with a whole host of players as Ferguson plans an overhaul of his squad, with Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, Harry Kewell and Ronaldinho said to be among the targets. "

" CHOCCY ON THE YOUTH CUP FINAL "
Story by Editor 24 April 2003
It is tomorrow night in case you are interested
Speaking on the official website he said:
" We´ll approach the game the same way we approach every
game. We want a performance. If we get a performance and if
they play the way we know they can, then we´re more than
capable of winning the game. We´ve made it clear all along
that we´re not underestimating anyone - especially our
opponents.
" Hopefully there will be a big crowd there on Friday and we
can win it in front of them. They came here to play big
games and be Manchester United players, that´s all part of
their learning. That´s the beauty of Manchester United -
we´ve always had young players coming through the ranks and
the manager, in the time he´s been here, has encouraged
that,"

Win title or Fergie´s out
This sounds ridiculous, but Sir Alex Ferguson may only have three games to save his job. Fans might think I´m crazy considering I say this just two days after Manchester United beat defending European champs Real Madrid 4-3 in a wonderful game. But if United do not now go on and win the Premiership title, their breathtaking and brave performance against the Spanish giants will mean nothing. Can Fergie really survive a second season without winning anything? I doubt it, but let´s look at the facts. He has spent just short of £85m in that barren spell, on world-class players such as Ruud van Nistelrooy, Juan Sebastian Veron, Rio Ferdinand and Diego Forlan. Three times he has smashed the English transfer record, and in Ferdinand he has the most costly defender in the world - but three of those four purchases have so far been massive flops. Is Danny right? Do you agree with Danny and think United will sack Fergie? You can email me at danny.fullbrook@dailystar.co.uk.

Keane: We´re not good enough
Roy Keane refused to hide from the brutal truth in the aftermath of Manchester United´s Champions League exit. The United skipper was in no mood to make excuses following the aggregate defeat to Real Madrid and conceded Sir Alex Ferguson´s side lack the class to be crowned European champions. " We were just not good enough," said Keane. " It´s all very good getting to quarter-finals and semi-finals, but it´s getting over that final hurdle that counts. We just can´t seem to do that. Real Madrid seem to do it on a regular basis. Every team is beatable, but maybe they have that little bit extra." Two years ago, after the quarter-final exit to Bayern Munich, Keane called for the rebuilding of the United side - a task duly undertaken by Ferguson with ruthless efficiency and big-money spending. Out went the likes of Andy Cole, Dwight Yorke, Teddy Sheringham and Jaap Stam. In came Ruud van Nistelrooy, Juan Sebastian Veron and Rio Ferdinand.

United in £6m talks for Kewell
Manchester United have held secret talks with Harry Kewell´s agent over a £6million bid. The Leeds midfielder, 24, is poised to net a staggering £70,000-a-week, almost double his present salary. His agent Bernie Mandic met United representatives and was the club´s guest of honour at Wednesday´s European Cup clash with Real Madrid. Leeds are desperate to hang on to their Aussie striker, who has a year left on his present deal. But he is ready to suffer the wrath of Elland Road fans by joining their bitter rivals. And debt-ridden Leeds may find it hard to turn away a serious offer.

Fergie keen to link Kluivert with Ruud
Life will go on at planet Old Trafford even without David Beckham and no player is bigger than any club - especially at Manchester United. It may seem unthinkable that Beckham will no longer be part of the furniture, but boss Alex Ferguson is clearly planning ahead without him. Fergie hinted earlier in the season the time was coming when he would have to build a new team. The thrilling European Cup exit at the hands of Real Madrid has brought matters to a head. It will be out with the old and in with the new as Fergie plots to make United kings of Europe again. And high on the shopping list, along with Harry Kewell of Leeds, is Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert, a man long admired by the Scot. Ferguson has had a nibble at the Dutch master before but has always baulked at the price and personal terms. However, there are encouraging signs from the Catalan capital that a fresh approach for the 26-year-old might succeed.

Bates sees Red over TV bust-up
Chelsea chairman Ken Bates has blasted Manchester United´s bid to sell their own overseas TV rights. The Reds suffered a 19-1 defeat at last week´s Premier League meeting when they proposed clubs should be free to negotiate individual deals to show their games abroad. United may now take the case to the European Court. But Bates warned: " If they go too far down that road, they may finish with nobody to play. The more people are exposed to Manchester United, the more people support them and buy their merchandise. So the spiral continues. United have already had £12million in TV fees - that´s four times that of Fulham, Southampton, Charlton and West Ham. They are getting so much more than the other clubs, it is hard to understand why United are attempting to undermine collective bargaining for the next TV contract." The current £1.1billion TV deal which expires in a year covers all Premiership games shown at home and abroad.

Van the Man spurred on by Premiership dream
Ruud van Nistelrooy reckons Manchester United can bounce back from their European Cup disappointment - by winning at Tottenham on Sunday. Van the Man is focusing on victory at White Hart Lane to keep up his side´s push for the Premiership title. Van Nistelrooy, 26, said: " It will be no problem lifting ourselves for the rest of the season. We cannot afford to dwell on things and now we are looking towards Spurs."

=>Beckham: Get me out of United
Humiliated David Beckham told his agent to find him a new club minutes after the Real Madrid match, The Sun can reveal. The Manchester Utd ace summoned wife Victoria and agent Tony Stephens to the city’s Malmaison Hotel for talks. The heartbroken England captain, 27, made it clear he wanted out after Sir Alex Ferguson relegated him to the bench for Wednesday’s crucial Champions League game. Beckham said it was the last straw in their long-running feud. The astonishing events came just 40 minutes after he walked from the Old Trafford pitch close to tears, having scored twice after coming on as a 63rd-minute substitute. Malmaison bosses set aside the whole restaurant area for Becks, Stephens, and pop star Victoria, 29.

He´ll be first ace to earn £100million
David Beckham has netted a £50million fortune - with a little help from his wife. And he is well on the way to becoming the world’s first £100million footballer. Becks’ wealth is revealed in the annual Sunday Times Rich List, published this weekend. It shows his fortune soared £15million in the past year. Beckham’s basic wage at Manchester United is £100,000-a-week — or £5million-a-year. And he earns at least double that from endorsements and promotions.

End it like Beckham
The look in David Beckham’s eyes said everything as he waved to all four sides of Old Trafford. Choking back tears on a night of raw emotion, he saluted the fans who have helped him through his darkest hours. To his pals, it looked like a sad farewell at the end of his last European match for Manchester United — the team he had dreamed of playing for since childhood. Realising the longest love affair of his life is coming to an end, grim-faced Beckham walked off the pitch nursing a broken heart after Wednesday’s clash with Real Madrid. And within 40 minutes he was sitting round a hotel table with his agent and wife Victoria, discussing plans to exit Old Trafford.

£100M - United face huge loss if they sell off Beckham
Manchester United risk losing £100million if they let David Beckham leave. Becks is world football´s biggest money-spinner and United are using him in a bid to crack the lucrative Far East and American markets. A successful launch of an Asian TV station and a host of merchandising spin-offs could be worth tens of millions. Analysts believe he would bring in £20m a year to United´s marketing arm if he stayed at the club until 2008. So letting the England skipper move to Real Madrid for £38m would be a massive gamble. City expert Henk Potts warned: " It´s a tough call for United. When you buy Beckham you are not just buying his football talents, you are buying his ability to generate merchandising, ticket sales and TV interest - which are the key economic drivers behind football clubs."
Shaun Custis, The Sun
Reds fans say he should go
Fans have given Manchester United the thumbs-up to sell David Beckham. A stunning 60 per cent quizzed outside Old Trafford after United´s European Cup KO by Real Madrid insisted it is time for Becks to leave - if the price is right. In Manchester city centre, fans also said they were ready to see the back of Beckham, who is being chased by Real. Businessman Chris McBridge, 29, from Monaghan in the Irish Republic, said: " He´s not worth £30,000 never mind £30million at the moment. He can´t offer anything else to United - and I think it´s best for all concerned if he starts afresh elsewhere."
Sports Reporter, The Sun
Becks in exile
The stock phrase in football is that no player has ever enhanced his career by leaving Manchester United. But that might just change should David Beckham join Real Madrid this summer. The England skipper has reached a stage where he can achieve little more at Old Trafford. In fact, by staying he runs the risk of stagnation. The point has been made that Beckham could find it difficult to even break into the Real superteam assembled by Vicente del Bosque. Yet a move to the Bernabeu would provide all the impetus required to move him on to new, invigorating heights. By joining Zidane, Ronaldo, Raul and Figo in Madrid, Beckham would become part of a master class that could only help to propel him to a level unattainable in Manchester.
Steven Howard, The Sun
I´m a celebrity get me out of here
David Beckham´s patience with manager Sir Alex Ferguson has finally snapped and he is set for a £38million summer switch to Real Madrid. The England skipper held an hour-long meeting with his wife Victoria and agent Tony Stephens in a Manchester hotel after being left on the bench for United´s Champions League game with Real Madrid. Beckham´s celebrity status and his huge demands outside of football have frustrated Fergie, and Real have already made it known they want to add him to their galaxy of stars and are the only club to be able to afford the huge transfer fee - and match the midfielder´s £8million a year personal demands. Beckham´s omission from the Real game was the final straw for the 27-year-old after being left out of United´s crunch Premiership clashes with Liverpool and title rivals Arsenal. A source close to Becks said: " This could be it for David now. He was furious at being left out of United´s biggest game of the season against Real and wants to go. After everything that has happened this season he has been pushed too far. It would be really hard for him to leave United, but maybe now is the right time for him to leave."
David McDonnell, Daily Mirror
Why Beckham will be bargain of the century
No matter how stunning his free-kick at Old Trafford or weak his performance at the Bernabeu, Real Madrid´s need to buy David Beckham was unaffected by events in the Champions League this past fortnight. In Spanish minds, the £38 million Manchester United midfielder has become a vital part of their future, so crucial that the cost of acquiring him now matters little. At the centre of Real´s commitment is Beckham´s worth as a commodity, not as a footballer. The question of whether the England captain is good enough to oust Luis Figo from the greatest club side in the world is irrelevant. Like no other player before him, Beckham´s signing represents tens, perhaps hundreds, of millions of pounds of merchandising revenue and a marketing strategy. Real believe they are engaged in a struggle with United, Milan, Juventus and potentially Barcelona for domination of the emerging multi-billion pound Asian football market. The England captain, even above Ronaldo, is the most popular football icon in that continent and to Real, the most successful club in history and therefore the most desirable brand name, buying the Beckham is like giving Manchester United £38m in order to earn £100m.
Graham Hunter, Daily Mirror
Beckenbauer baffled
Bayern Munich legend Franz Beckenbauer says his is mystified by Alex Ferguson´s decision to leave David Beckham out of the starting line-up against Real Madrid. Bayern president Beckenbauer said: " Beckham was Manchester United´s most effective player in the 25 minutes he was on the pitch. Alex Ferguson must respond to the question of why he waited so long to bring him on." The Kaiser also praised the contribution of Ruud van Nistelrooy, saying: " It would be good if we could sign a player like him, but when you have played for a team like Manchester United or Real you´re not going to come to Bayern."
Simon Cass, Daily Mirror
