Villarreal: No United talks

Villarreal are insistent they have not held direct talks with Manchester United about Marcos Senna, but admit he could still leave the club.

The Brazilian-born Spanish international is being very strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford and it was reported a bid had been lodged.

However, The Yellow Submarines are more than keen to keep Senna and president Fernando Roig says talks with United have not taken place - although he did confirm that there was interest in the 30-year-old.

"No director of Manchester United has spoken with us about this subject, Senna is our player and he has returned as normal as he is in our plans for next season," he said.

"I do not know what can happen, he has an offer from us to renew, and there is interest from other clubs and of those some of them interest him more - we will see what happens.

"Villarreal wants Senna to remain, but if there is an interesting offer - we will look at it."

Senna himself has again insisted he is more than happy to remain at El Madrigal.

"I know they are negotiating my situation and I hope that it is fixed soon so I know what my future will be," Senna told the club´s website.

"Villarreal opened the doors to me and the truth is that here I am very contented.

"The squad is being reinforced very well with the arrival of Leandro Somoza, Cani and Robert Pires we have greater depth in midfield.

"I always said that my dream is to be able to win a title with this cub, and this year is a great opportunity to obtain that."

United have just sealed the signing of Michael Carrick so their need for another midfielder is not as pressing as it was, but Senna could still prove to be too tempting for Ferguson not to make a firm move.

Selon le Daily Mirror du jour, le richissime président des blues serait prêt à débourser plus de 30 millions de livres pour s´attacher les services de l´international espagnol Fernando Torres. En plus de la somme, Shaun Wright- Phillips ou Didier Drogba pourrait être inclus dans la transaction. Avec Shevchenko, Chelsea se doterait ainsi d´une attaque de feu pour la saison prochaine. Pour le moment, Torres est encore sous contrat avec l´Atletico Madrid pour deux saisons.

Gallas et Makelele ont eu des vacs en plus après la CdM et Gallas est parti aux Caraïbes. Il devait se rendre auj à Los Angeles pour retrouver ses coéquipiers en camp d´entraînement. Mais il ne s´est pas présenté. Chelsea pourrait faire une retenue sur salaire.

Il me semble que Sir Alex avait dit qu´il voulait 4 buteurs dans l´effectif.
On peut compter Smith, Saha, Rooney et je me demande s´il va inclure Solkjaerk dedans. Dans ce cas là pas besoin d´un autre attaquant dnc c´est vraiment pas sur qu´on en prenne un.

Sir Alex ponders striker situation

Sir Alex Ferguson has conceded he is still mulling over the striking situation at Manchester United after allowing Ruud van Nistelrooy to join Real Madrid.

Last season´s top scorer will be sorely missed at Old Trafford, even though Ferguson is quick to point out that he has enough cover within the squad to compensate for the loss of a forward who guarantees goals.

"Well, we have one or two decisions to make about that," Ferguson told Sky Sports News. "For instance, [Giuseppe] Rossi.

"It´s more likely he´ll stay now. Ruud van Nistelrooy has left but we´ve got Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] coming back and he´s progressing quite well. The more games he gets now, it´s going to be good for him.

"We´ve got some alternatives in terms of attacking roles - Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney, Louis Saha. And, of course, we are not saying he´ll be back immediately, but Alan Smith is doing fantastic in training.

"It´s a real surprise to us how he´s come on. He´s not far away from taking part in a real game now. I think, in three weeks´ time, he´ll be back into the lion´s den again as a centre forward. He´s got real guts and determination and is a handful to play against. It´s a different option for us too so, after that, you say well, look around and there´s not too many centre forwards you would really go for, for what we need."

Ferguson rejected suggestions that some supporters have been less than thrilled with the transfer activity during the close season.

"Have you got witness to that? It´s just your opinion," countered the Scot. "I´m happy with the squad I´ve got. I must say they´re a good bunch of players.

"What we need to do is make sure we don´t get injuries in the early part of the season. Touch wood, that´s not the case because, the last two years, it´s blighted our chances. If that´s the case, we´ll have a great chance this year."

Chief executive David Gill confirmed there is still money available in the transfer kitty, although another midfielder is believed to be Ferguson´s chief priority.

"We don´t discuss our budgets but, as Alex has mentioned, we do have funds there if we want to bring in one or two more players," said Gill. "And we´re looking at that situation at the moment.

"We´ve always had a short, medium and long term view of what is needed to compete in the transfer market and that´s the situation. Obviously, the Jon Obi Mikel money we hadn´t budgeted in, but we managed to get that in and it will be reinvested back into the team as is necessary."
