Obi Mikel Jeune nigérian qui jouait en norvége à Lynn et avait signé un contrat avec Manchester. Il avait fait un trés bon championnat du monde des -20, devenu international A il a même joué à la dernière CAN. Chelsea s´est en mêlé, avec un agent véreux (John Shittu il me semble) et on passe les détails mais Manchester a préféré rêgler le pb en leur vendant 12M£ (et 4M£ pour Lynn je crois).

Au sujet de Mascherano ça me parait même étonnamment pas cher (17M£)...Il a un statut déjà important, international argentin et champion olympique, il est sous contrat jusque 2010 dans le club sud-américain le plus riche et capable de rivaliser financiérement avec n´importe quel gros club européen grâce à MSI. Il avait été acheté 15M€ donc pas étonnant qu´ils en demandent bien plus...

SIR ALEX Ferguson is in talks with Argentina World Cup star Javier Mascherano.

Fergie believes he has finally found the man to replace Roy Keane and Mascherano´s agents arrived last night to discuss a move to Manchester United.

The defensive midfielder (above) is valued at £25million by Corinthians, but United are expected to make the Brazilian club an opening offer of £16m.

Mascherano, who was in outstanding form for his country in Germany, looked to be on the way to Real Madrid for £25m until the Spaniards pulled out following elections for a new club president - opening the door for United.

The investment company behind Corinthians bought Mascherano from River Plate for £10m two years ago and the key to the move is how much profit they want from his sale.

United are prepared to dig deep for Mascherano, described by Diego Maradona as "a monster of a player and destined for great things".

And at the age of 22 he will have a resale value if he moves on from Old Trafford, which is the kind of deal that appeals to the Glazer family who own United.

Chelsea had looked at him but instead went for Michael Ballack and John Obi Mikel, leaving United in pole position - a rarity in the current transfer market.

Sir Alex will also sign Michael Carrick in a £16m deal after Tottenham admitted defeat in their battle to keep the England midfielder.

Carrick has turned down a new contract offer worth £45,000 a week which would have trebled his wages at White Hart Lane.

That was the signal for Ferguson to make a third bid for him and negotiations are likely to be finalised before Carrick returns to pre-season training after his extended break following the World Cup.

Ferguson´s two previous offers, which included John O´Shea and Mikael Silvestre as part of a player-plus-cash package, were turned down.

Losing Carrick has forced Spurs to put on hold plans to off-load Edgar Davids to his former club Ajax.

United have told Real Madrid to increase their £12m offer if they are serious about signing Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Real´s second bid - £3m under United´s valuation - is expected to be formally rejected today.

MADRID, Spain (AP) - Manchester United has agreed to sell striker Ruud van Nistelrooy to Real Madrid for €15 million (US$18.9 million), Spanish radio station Cadena SER said Thursday.

Van Nistelrooy will reportedly sign a three-year contract and be presented at Madrid´s Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Friday following a routine medical.

The transfer was concluded at midnight Wednesday after negotiations throughout the day between Madrid sports director Predrag Mijatovic and United´s chief executive David Gill, the station said.

The 30-year-old Dutchman was set to arrive in the Spanish capital later Thursday and stay at the same hotel as Madrid´s other recent signings - former Juventus players Fabio Cannavaro and Emerson.

Van Nistelrooy, who will reportedly be paid an annual salary of €5 million (US$7.3 million), would team up again with David Beckham, with whom he played at United from 2001-2003.

On Wednesday, United manager Alex Ferguson said Madrid´s offer remained well below United´s asking price of 15 million pounds (€21.9 million; US$27.9 million).

"Nothing has really materially changed," Ferguson told United´s TV station. "They´ve slightly increased it but nothing really you would say - for goodness sake, an increase of about two bob or something."

Ferguson said van Nistelrooy´s sale should be at "the proper value" and compared the possible transfer with that of Andriy Shevchenko, who joined Chelsea at the end of May.

"He is one of the best strikers in the country, one of the best strikers in Europe so when you think about Shevchenko going for 35 million pounds (€51.1 million; US$65 million) - he´s a similar age group. But we know our value of the player so at the moment he is a Manchester United player."

Madrid has been vying with Bayern Munich to sign van Nistelrooy, who asked to leave United after falling out with Ferguson at the end of last season.

Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness said Tuesday his club had also lodged a new bid, also said to fall short of United´s asking price.

United signed van Nistelrooy in April 2001 for a then-British record fee of 19 million pounds (now €27.7 million; US$35.3 million).

Foot - Transferts : Van Nistelrooy au Real

Après Cannavaro et Emerson, le Real Madrid enregistre sa troisième recrue estivale. A la lutte avec le Bayern Munich, les Madrilènes sont finalement parvenus à enrôler l´avant-centre néerlandais Ruud van Nistelrooy, pour une somme avoisinant les 15 millions d´euros selon la presse espagnole. L´avant-centre de 30 ans a paraphé un contrat de trois ans avec Madrid a indiqué le club jeudi.

Il quitte donc Manchester après cinq saisons passées sous le maillot rouge, durant lesquelles il a inscrit 150 buts en 219 apparations mais où il n´était plus titulaire l´an passé, Louis Saha lui étant préféré par Alex Ferguson. Le Néerlandais va passer sa visite médicale vendredi matin, et sera présenté officiellement aux "socios" et à la presse dans l´après-midi.

Et à en croire Sir Alex Ferguson, le pitbull est d´ores et déjà d´attaque puisque le technicien mancunien envisage de le titulariser dès lundi en match amical contre Macclesfield.

Carrick ´finally set´ for Man Utd

Manchester United are set to complete the protracted transfer of Tottenham midfielder Michael Carrick, according to newspaper reports.

Spurs rejected a £10m bid for the 25-year-old midfielder over six weeks ago but are now believed to have agreed to a deal worth about £15m.

The cash is likely to come from United striker Ruud van Nistlerooy´s expected £10m transfer to Real Madrid.

Carrick cost Spurs £2.75m when he joined from West Ham in August 2004.

The midfielder has won seven England caps, making his debut when coming on as a substitute against Mexico in 2001.

He was part of England´s World Cup squad but made just one appearance in Germany, in the 1-0 win over Ecuador in the first game of the knockout stages.

Je trouve ça malheureux de vendre Ruud pour 10M£ alors que depuis qu´il est à vendre, on nous prêche la bonne parole en disant qu´il ne sera pas bradé et à la fin c´est ce qui ce passe.

Le Real a de quoi etre content après nous avoir pris Beckham pour pas cher (vu son talent, son age et son contrat) il le refont avec Ruud. Reste à savoir si ce prix à un rapport avec les spéculation envoyant Ronaldo à Madrid...

Ruud can travel to Madrid

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been given the go-ahead to undergo a medical with Real Madrid.

Reports on Thursday evening had suggested that a deal to take the striker to Spain had been sealed. However, a club statement has confirmed that these reports are premature.

A club spokeswoman told ManUtd.com: "Manchester United give permission for Ruud van Nistelrooy to travel to Real Madrid for a medical.

"However, terms of agreement are yet to be finalised between the two clubs."

Manchester annonce qu´il n´est pas encore vendu.
